Who would've thought the Yellowknife Wraiths would be where they are this year? Pole position in the NSFC with a strong 6-4 record. What is this? The best rebuild ever or the worst? It depends who you ask.

After last years miserable season, which resulted in them missing the playoffs to the newly founded Philadelphia Liberty, the Wraiths are back with a bang. Sure they lost what many would've thought would've ended their season prematurely, huge names like Cushing, Garden and Fulton skipped town. To greener pastures, or so they thought.

The wraiths have been lights out this year and a big determinant of this is both the standout play of offensive lineman turned QB Mat Akselsen who has torched defenses and the work of newly acquired safety Clee Hardrool who is having a DPOY worthy season thus far. For what many claimed would cripple them when Josh Garden left for the reigning champions, the Outlaws. A familiar figure stepped into his place, none other than Eric Kennedy who has balled out so far this year with many standout performances.

Just how far the Yellowknife Wraiths will progress is a mystery for now, but one thing's certain. They've got the whole of Canada rooting them on in their future endeavors.

The Colorado Yeti's shocking upset win against the Baltimore Hawks has really shaken up the playoff scenarios in the NSFC. With a win, the Hawks could have almost guaranteed themselves the 1st seed, but now they're even in danger of missing the playoffs entirely if more disaster ensues. The Yellowknife Wraiths are now the favorites to secure the number one seed, they have three winnable games out of their remaining 4 while the Hawks have two on the road against the two best teams in the league, the Outlaws and Otters. The Philadelphia Liberty are two games back but they are not dead yet. If they get hot and either the Wraiths are Hawks stumble, they could sneak in. They have two massive games remaining, at home vs. the Wraiths and on the road against the Hawks. If they win those two games they will also have the conference record tie breaker secured in case they finish with the same record as either of the other two teams. They also have a very tough game coming up against the Sabercats, but they also have a game against the Yeti where they will be big favorites. I predict the NSFC will finish like this: 1. Wraiths 9-5, 2. Hawks 8-6, 3. Liberty 6-8. (212)

As the DSFL comes to a close, the Portland Pythons should have the top seed in the West locked down. Portland doesn't play the Chicago Blues anymore so as far as we can tell, Portland won't lose any more games. That being said, Chicago won't many more games either seeing as how they can only beat Portland. The one problem for Portland is the ever improving Norfolk team. Wolverine Justice has been improving all year and he is definitely the player that could sink Portland's magical turn around season. The Portland schedule is definitely a tough one. We play NOR, SA, KCC, and then TIJ to close the year. All 4 teams are improving and have very good defenses. Winning against NOR or winning 2/4 of those games will lock up first seed in the West and ensure the ever important home field in the playoffs. If Portland manages to escape the Western division, they will face one of the three teams in the East in the final. Who knows who's gonna come out of that division. All 3 teams are nasty. All 3 of those teams have great defenses and the final will be decided on who can best shut down Portland's pass offense.

What are the odds of the Yeti making the playoffs? Let's look at what they need to happen in each game for the rest of the season.

Week 11:
Legion defeat Hawks
Yeti defeat Otters
Sabercats defeat Liberty
Outlaws defeat Wraiths

Week 12:
Sabercats defeat Wraiths
Otters defeat Hawks
Yeti defeat Liberty

Week 13:
Yeti defeat Outlaws
Wraiths defeat Liberty
Otters defeat Hawks

Week 14:
Yeti defeat Wraiths
Liberty defeat Hawks

If this best case scenario plays out, here are the final standings of the NSFC:
1. Wraiths (7-7)
2. Hawks (6-8)
3. Yeti (5-9) (Assuming they score more points and win the tiebreaker)
4. Liberty (5-9)

So if this is the best case scenario for the Yeti, does that mean they're eliminated? If you want to look at it mathematically, then yes they are eliminated. However the Yeti are a team of fighters currently on a 1 game winning streak. I have a hard time seeing a team like this allowing themselves to be kept out. So how do the Yeti make it into the playoffs? That's where it gets complicated. I believe their best chance is a well placed scandal. If every Hawks player were to get suspended, the Yeti could theoretically still make the playoffs in their place. Or maybe it will be determined that the ghost of Caramel Gibson is still playing for the Hawks and some of their wins will be vacated. The Wraiths are playing a lot better than expected this season, perhaps some sort of scandal will come out about them. There are a lot of possible scandals that could arise in this league and to make a long story short, the Yeti will need a major one in order to make the playoffs at this point.

The Monday double headers did a lot for some of th playoff pictures. The Baltimore Hawks came into Monday needing a split to put them on track for the playoffs. The games that they had on Monday were certainly on opposite ends of the spectrum. They had one game that was incredibly difficult, and they had one game that was incredibly easy. The first game was an absolute must win against the basement dwelling Las Vegas Legion who they got to face at home in Baltimore. The second game was a lot tougher. They had to go on the road to face the very tough Arizona Outlaws.

The games went about what the neutral fan would expect. The Hawks got to start with the easy game against the Legion. In that game the Hawks absolutely dominated. They were amazing in the passing game, running game, blocking, rush defense, pass rush, and pass coverage. That lead to an absolutely dominant win for the Hawks. the Arizona game was the opposite. The Hawks were worse than the Outlaws in the passing game, running game, blocking, rush defense, pass rush, and pass coverage.

This put the Hawks in great position to be a playoff team. The Hawks magic number is 1, needing a win or a Philly loss to clinch a spot in the playoffs. 222

Ryan Sierra - OL - Tijuana Luchadores

Playoff Scenario for DSFL East division

With four games remaining for each of the six DSFL teams, not one team has clinched a playoff spot nor has anyone been eliminated from the playoffs. Beginning with the Tijuana Luchadores and the “East” division, the DSFL’s #1 Power Ranked team has won five consecutive games, sprinting to the division lead. If the playoffs were to begin today, TJ would hold the #1 seed from the East. The Luchadores can clinch a playoff spot with two wins and one loss by the Kansas City Coyotes. The San Antonio Marshalls would be the second team from the East division by way of tie breaker, holding the same record as the Luchadores with five wins and five losses. Having the same playoff clinching scenario as TJ, the Marshalls only need two wins in their final 4 games and one loss by KC to clinch a playoff spot. On the outside looking in, the Kansas City Coyotes are only 1.5 games back from the division leaders as their record stands at 3-6-1. KC could make things real interesting in the East if they win 3 of their last 4 games. The tie versus the West division foe, Norfolk Seawolves could prove to be a blessing in disguise if they take care of business during this stretch run.

The San Jose play off dreams all hinge on hosting the Orange County Otters.
Currently The Otters are 8-4 against the San Jose Sabercats 7-5. This is the best record the sabercats have ever had and really their closxest shot to win the playoffs. If they we're in the NSFC, they would probably be a lock in for playoffs, but with the Outlaws and Otters leading the division, it's really challenging.

The last time the Otters and the sabercats played, the sabercats we're absolutely destroyed in orange county. Many believe that the Otters we're very ready for that game and that the sabercats offensive and defensive coaches completely neglected preperation for that game.
They obviously had a game plan against us and we really we're just banking on getting wins (due to us playing so well).

Will the Sabercats have a better plan this time with the homefield advantage? Who knows... but at least the team seems to be moving in the right direction.

Without the win against the Otters, there really is no way for the sabercats to make the playoffs.

Dan Miller had some words to say about the week 13 game: "We are going to come out and play as hard as we can. I won't be happy unless I force a turn over myself. I'm going to make Mike Boss earn it."
