It's only been a couple months since Chancellor Bennett, otherwise known as Chance the Rapper, called on other Chicago based celebrities to donate to the Chicago Public School system. Since then he has been matched by the Bulls and continued to campaign for a better education in the area. Now, there's a new addition to the campaign team: NSFL prospect Leroy Jenkins.

Instead of spending his time before the draft partying, Leroy held a press conference this afternoon at Curie Metropolitan High School to announce his $1,000,000 plus donation to the CPS. More specifically, he pledged his first million he earned and half his signing bonus after every contract after that. While a bold move for someone who hasn't even been drafted, Leroy stated that he felt it was something that needed to be done.

"Education is essential to every child's development and every teen's development. When you short them they aren't able to find jobs that can support their families and that's when kids turn to crime," Leroy, a former honor student, said to the assembled reporters, "If we want to clean up the streets, we need to give them the tools to get out of that life. If the state can't find the funds and the city won't help, maybe those who do have the means and desire to help should. I know it's not even close to the quarter billion needed, but I want to give as much help as I can."

Leroy Jenkins attended Curie from 2009 to 2013, where he broke both their sacks and rushing record in consecutive seasons. Although racking up those impressive accomplishments, he never got the attention of college scouts due to the lacking team. Graduating at the top of his class with a perfect ACT and SAT, he earned a full ride academic scholarship to Oregon University for a major in Economics. There he made the football team as a walk-on in his Freshman year, but had it cut short by a chest injury. Later when he recovered, he took the conference by storm, narrowly missing out on a Heisman his Junior year. After choosing to stay for his fourth year to complete his degree, many critics have come out to criticize his lackluster Senior year, possibly lowering his draft stock.

When asked about the NSFL Draft later today, Leroy responded that he would, "talk about draft stuff at the draft. Right now it's about these kids and their futures, not mine."

This reminds me of that episode of the Office when Michael Scott promised all to pay for all of those high school seniors tuition.
