Of course, the event I choose is the event I had a big part in. You might remember it, back way back when while it was all going down. This was the Matt James saga (Liberty Ultimus was great but time to educate). For those of you who don’t know, Matt James was a multi, he was probably the best played multi that ER had in that saga. Matt James had been drafted by the Liberty back in the excellent S2 draft, he was one of the many pieces the Liberty added to make a playoff team out of scratch as an expansion team. Matt James however didn’t want to be a part of the Liberty team, he wouldn’t respond to any messages when people tried to reach out, and he joined discord for all of a minute during the saga. Of course, this minute happened to be the one minute where I was like I really want to post a slam article about James, I was fed up with his nonsense, and after hearing he wanted an enormous contract I had enough. This was when the saga started going strong, James was playing the role of Roc Nation, and well put out slander against the Liberty. Articles were flying back and forth, every day a new piece would be up from one side slamming the other, and I was one of the main writers involved for the Liberty. At it’s height there was a mock tshirt created, with kckolbe still using it as his NSFL profile picture to this day. When everyone thought he was real the drama was flying, and it was fun while it lasted, but I’m glad it’s far behind us. (285 words)

I'm lucky to be considered one of the best kickers in the league now, but it took an incredible and improbable season for that to happen. For those newer to the league, you may not know that I was by far the worst kicker in the NSFL during my rookie season. I went a dismal 73.7% on field goals, the worst field goal percentage in the league by 6.3%. On a team where every point mattered (because let's face it, that Yeti team did not score much), I missed 5 field goals as well as a rare extra point attempt. Of the punters that played the whole season, I had the worst punting average and least kicks inside the 20, being 11 (ELEVEN!) behind Stephen Harris of the Liberty. I ended up rated 7th out of 8 on The Specialist's S6 Review (thanks Peg Leg for having a shorter season) and even rated myself as a bust.

But the magic did start that season, as I went on to go 23 straight games without missing a kick, totalling 58 consecutive makes between the latter half of S6, all of S7, and much of S8. It wasn't easy, and there were many challenging kicks that I had to make to keep it alive - including the legendary game-winner against Arizona to snap the Yeti losing streak. That first year was hard, but it built me up to go through one of the more special specialist events of the league's history.

So I guess we can talk about any event in the past. Well I want to talk about the season 9 DSFL draft and just how awesome it was for the Portland Pythons. Man we really hit it big on defense and it has shown so far for us. Lucari Felix, Shannon Hobbs, Damien Arnold are all DB's who will team up with the formidable Joel Shroeder to help form one of the best, no make that the best secondary in the entire DSFL. These three draftees are some of the hardest working individuals you will get out of any draft. These guys have gone above and beyond expectations already as both Hobbs and Felix have gotten more than 120 TPE and Arnold is closing in on the 75 TPE mark himself. Now the offensive side of the ball was drafted pretty well also. With Joliet L. Christ, Taylor Peterson, D'Pez Poopsie, Felix Hasselhoff and Chris Bennet, this team is completely loaded with talent. This team is already top in the North and looking to continue their dominance as the season goes on. With only one loss on their record, they are hoping to hold strong and make sure that there will be no more losses for the foreseeable future.

I don't know much about league events that have taken place and are worth writing about. I joined after a lot of the drama of the early days had passed so the most exciting thing had probably been either Philly's sell-off or Hendrix's sudden departure. But even those I'm not sure that I could write two hundred words about. Know what I CAN write 200 words about? That's right, Kyle Corbett. Dude had a monster season, and then in the playoffs went mysteriously silent. Somehow Lucha made it passed the San Antonio Marshals without him, and then in the championship he did something that he almost never does: he missed an extra point. Down 20-18 with two minutes left, they knew they had to make a push deep into Coyote territory. But once there, could they trust Kyle Corbett to put the game away? Clearly he was stricken by the spotlight. He began his cadence and took a deep breath. The ball was snapped with only a second left on the clock. The hold was secure and Corbett booted the ball harder than he ever has in his life. It wasn't until he felt the force of his 50 teammates dog-piled on top of him that he realized that the ball had bounced up and through the uprights. The Tijuana Luchadores had won their first championship.

When Portland took a disappointing lose in the Payoffs in S7, half of the Roster vowed to have their players sent down to help them push to get them on in S8. They set a record for most wins in the season by a DSFL team. They went to play the Tijuana Luchadores and they, the Luchadores, lost big time to them, the Pythons, in a the game, the ultimini. They, the Pythons, had a beast wide reciever, mark grau, and a stacked defense, Mason brown and Zach Skinner. Oh yeah and James Brown, a pythons d tackles. They also had Cole McCoy playing quarterback, because well because he is, no was, a Quarterback.the other team, the luchadores, had brad Pennington, their qb, they also had that pennington, their safety, and Chad Pennington, their Linebacker. Chad won DRotY and DPotY year in the dsfl, but he Did not win the Ultimini because the Pythons won it. Because they had a stacked team. Man oh man I am at 168 words, I need to find a way to get to 200. This will not be fun, because I cant write more than this, Luchadores suck hairy balls and Pythons are the best ever and will always be that way.

The Wraiths' Season 8 championship win was an exciting event. The Wraiths had looked to be in position to win a championship the previous season after a 13-1 finish in the regular season gave them the best record in the league. However, they lost at home in the first round of the playoffs and saw their season come to a disappointing and premature end. But the Wraiths hoped that they would be able to channel this disappointment and use it as motivation to come back stronger and finish with a better result the next year. There was some uncertainty surrounding the Wraiths entering Season 8 as they would be facing the first round of regression and a few of their key players were Season 1 players. While they weren't as dominant as the previous season, the Wraiths were still the best team in the regular season as they finished with a league best 11-3 record. They looked to be on track for another first round playoff upset as they fell behind 21-0 against the Hawks in the NSFC Championship game, but this time they fought back and went on a 38-3 run to win 38-24. After that, they went to the Ultimus game against the New Orleans Second Line and came away with a 24-13 victory. It was a special event for the Wraiths to win their first championship after working towards it for many years and even more special that they were able to come back strong after a disappointing ending to the previous season.

As a rookie to the DSFL, Grithead does not know a lot about the NSFL's history. When people in the Kansas City locker room laugh and joke about "____ retires many" Grithead laughs along but does not really understand the reference which saddens him greatly. He does know that some of the first few seasons of the NSFL were tainted by some clones of the same dude who just must have been super dedicated to helping the Outlaws win. But other than that, Grithead has no idea what happened or what the repercussions were, nor even who ran the genetic cloning scheme for the Outlaws. Is this nefarious person still here in the NSFL? Would we even know if this person was here if they switched their IP or something? Grithead stays lying awake at night for hours thinking and trembling in fear to these dark thoughts. One thing that Grithead does remember, though, is that he dropped all the way to the 5th round in the DSFL draft. He will always have this chip on his shoulder with every carry and catch he makes in both the DSFL and NSFL. With the Coyotes finally picking him up late on, he hopes to reward the faith.

Way back in Season One, the Colorado Yeti were a formidable foe for many teams in the league. That is something tough for many people to comprehend given their track record since that first season. But back in the early days of the NSFL, the Colorado Yeti were one of the top teams in the league. They fought out that first season with the Yellowknife Wraiths before eventually losing to the Arizona Outlaws in the Ultimus Championship. I got to experience this first hand as not only GM of the squad but also a star outside linebacker for the team as well. I am excited to see the Yeti turning a corner to become a competitive team in the NSFL as of now. But it's always interesting to look back and see yesteryears teams and see how absolutely different the team was in Season One than it was for the next 7 seasons. While I think some of the blame falls on Wyatt Fulton and Philippe Carter bolting after two seasons, I would also say that much of it had to do with the troubled QB Logan Noble and his downward spiral as a player and a member of the site. What an interesting first season it was and hopefully the Yeti can start on a path to once again becoming a formidable foe for those in the league.
