*Season 9 Record Watch - Beaver - 08-02-2018

Code:
4063 words, sorry that this reads like a spreadsheet but, well, not that sorry :).

With 4 games remaining in the DSFL and NSFL seasons it's time to check out which records are in danger of being broken, which ones are safe for another season, and what this season's players need to do to break them. As we go forward bear in mind that the DSFL years for set records appears to be borked (it says some were set before we had a DSFL?) so those may not always be accurate.

Here are the records that have already been broken:
DSFL Receiving Touchdowns - Xavier Flash TIJ 10, previous record was 7
NSFL Rushing Touchdowns - Darren Smallwood NOLA 20, previous record was 18

Here are the records that are on pace to be broken:
DSFL Passing Touchdowns - Adriana Falconi TIJ 14 (on pace for 19.6), current record is 19.
DSFL Defensive Touchdowns - K. McDermott NOR 3 (on pace for 4.2), current record is 4.
DSFL Rushing Yards - Marquise Brown SA 1,359 (on pace for 1,903), current record is 1,562.
DSFL Receiving Yards - Xavier Flash TIJ 982 (on pace for 1,375), current record is 1,273.
DSFL Kick Return Yards - P. Harvin PB 630 (on pace for 882), current record is 844.
DSFL Catches - Xavier Flash TIJ 70 (on pace for 98), current record is 95.
DSFL Interceptions - Storm Woods SA or Danny Vranos SA 7 (on pace for 9.8), current record is 7.
DSFL Fumbles Recovered - Brian Mills IV TIJ 3 (on pace for 4.2), current record is 4.

NSFL Punt Return Touchdowns - Dermot Lavelle YKW 2 (on pace for 2.8), current record is 2.
NSFL Rushing Yards - Darren Smallwood NOLA 1,125 (on pace for 1,575), current record is 1,461.
NSFL Fumbles Forced - Mason Brown OCO ; Luke Tiernan ARI Vikian Marmeladov BAL ; or Wallace Stone YKW tied at 3 (on pace for 4.2), current record is 4.
NSFL Fumbles Recovered - Cameron Taylor YKW 3 (on pace for 4.2), current record is 4.

DSFL Team Tackles - Portland POR 555 (on pace for 777), current record is 766.

NSFL Points For - New Orleans NOLA 370 (on pace for 518), current record is 471.

And here are all of the records I looked at (which is not every record in the index), along with how likely I think each one is to be broken:

Individual Records
DSFL
Touchdowns
Passing
The current record: 19, set by the Season 3 Portland Pythons quarterback whose name has been eaten in the sim.
The current leader: 14, by Adriana Falconi of the Tijuana Luchadores. On pace for 19.6.

The outlook: This is going to be a tough one to beat. The Luchadores have two games against San Antonio's stingy defense in their last four games so while Falconi needs just 5 touchdowns in 4 games it's far from a sure thing.

Rushing
The current record: 15, set by Marquise Brown of the San Antonio Marshals last season.
The current leader: 10, by the same man. On pace for 14.

The outlook: Similar to Falconi, the Marshall have two games remaining against Tijuana's sturdy defense so it looks unlikely that Brown will beat his own record here. However, they also have two games against bot teams so there's a chance. He needs 6 in 4 games.

Receiving
The current record: 7, set by some receiver on the legendary Season 5 Palm Beach Solar Bears.
The current leader: 10, by Xavier Flash of the Tijuana Luchadores. On pace for 14.

The outlook: Yeah this one was busted in Week 6 against the Marshals. Right now he's just padding it and by the end of the season he may have doubled it up.

Defensive
The current record: 4, set by Oskar Ludvig of the San Antonio Marshals last season.
The current leader: 3, by K. McDermott of the Norfolk Seawolves. On pace for 4.2.

The outlook: Defensive touchdowns are so rare and volatile that this one is up in the air. To supplant an old record on the index you have to beat it out right, tying isn't good enough, so it seems unlikely Mr. Bot here will get 2 in the final four games but you never know.

Punt Return
The current record: 3, set by someone on the Tijuana Luchadores in Season 7ish.
The current leader: 1, with Shannon Hobbs of the Portland Pythons and V. Hargreaves of the Palm Beach Solar Bears tied. On pace for 1.4.

The outlook: Nah.

Kick Return
The current record: 2, set by someone on the Portland Pythons in Season 7ish.
The current leader: 1, by Marquise Brown of the San Antonio Marshals. On pace for 1.4.

The outlook: Possible but unlikely. With the aforementioned two bot games remaining it's not out of the realm of possibility that Brown returns 2 more kickoffs for touchdowns but he likely won't get many opportunities as the bot teams won't be scoring much.

Yardage
Passing
The current record: 3,387, set by whoever played quarterback for the Portland Pythons in Season 4ish.
The current leader: 2,159, by Buzz Swaggerty of the Norfolk Seawolves. On pace for 3,023.

The outlook: Very unlikely. The Seawolves finish with 3 road games, including @ Kansas City and @ Portland. Their sole home game is against San Antonio. In fact Joliet Christ of the Pythons is probably more likely to break this record, sitting just 150 yards behind Swaggerty with two bot games remaining. Unlikely either way.

Rushing
The current record: 1,562, set by Elijah Lagerfield of the Portland Pythons last season.
The current leader: 1,359, by Marquise Brown of the Marshals. On pace for 1,903.

The outlook: Needing just 200 yards in four games this one looks certain to fall, it's just a matter of when Brown adds his name to another DSFL record.

Receiving
The current record: 1,273, set by some receiver on Norfolk around Season 3.
The current leader: 982, by Xavier Flash of Tijuana. On pace for 1,375.

The outlook: As mentioned above, the two games against the Marshals will make or break this record. He's on pace to clear it by 100 yards but that wiggle room may disappear quickly after the Marshals games. A big game Week 13 at home against the Solar Bears may be necessary to break this one.

Punt Return
The current record: 470, set by someone on the Pythons in Season 6ish.
The current leader: 222, by V. Hargreaves of the Solar Bears. On pace for 311.

The outlook: Nope.

Kick Return
The current record: 844, set by W.(alter?) Payton of the Palm Beach Solar Bears around Season 7.
The current leader: 630, by P.(ercy?) Harvin of the Palm Beach Solar Bears. On pace for 882.

The outlook: Just by sheer opportunity this record may very well fall. The Solar Bears finish their season with a defense-optional home game against Norfolk, then @ San Antonio, @ Tijuana, @ Portland. They'll be giving up a lot of scores in those games and Harvin will have a lot of chances to chip away at this yardage record.

Volume
Pass Attempts
The current record: 583, set by a Chicago Blues quarterback around Season 4.
The current leader: 393, by Buzz Swaggerty of Norfolk. On pace for 550.

The outlook: Norfolk is going to spend a lot of time behind with their league-worst defense so Swaggerty should be throwing a lot. We should have a better idea after his Week 11 game against Palm Beach - a lot of attempts there will put him in a good position.

Pass Completions
The current record: 327, set by a Portland quarterback around Season 4.
The current leader: 233, by Buzz Swaggerty of Norfolk. On pace for 326.

The outlook: Same as above except he's on a better pace for this one.

Rush Attempts
The current record: 418, set by Conall O'Sullivan of Norfolk.
The current leader: 277, by Marquise Brown of the Marshals. On pace for 388.

The outlook: This is a rushing record that Brown may not break. He needs 142 attempts in four weeks to break it, or 35.5 per game. He's only eclipsed that number three times this season, with the last one coming in Week 7. He's seen sparse duty the past several games.

Catches
The current record: 95, set by John Wachter of the Pythons around Season 4.
The current leader: 70, by Xavier Flash of Tijuana. On pace for 98

The outlook: We've covered the Luchadores' tough stretch to finish the season as Flash and Falconi close in various records. I'd say this one is a toss up, Flash will likely need big games against the Marshals to break this one, just like the others.

Interceptions
The current record: 7, set by someone on Kansas City around Season 3.
The current leader: 7, by Storm Woods and Danny Vranos - both from San Antonio. On pace for 9.8.

The outlook: With the record already tied we need just 1 interception from either of these players to see a new record set. Two games against the pass-happy Luchadores and a bot game remaining this looks like a lock.

Fumbles Forced
The current record: 3 by R. Millers of Tijuana around Season 3.
The current leader: 2, with a bunch of players tied. On pace for 3.

The outlook: Very random stat but with 7 players tied at 2 we're almost certainly going to see a tied record and it's not terribly unlikely one of them forces 2 more to end the season. Less than 50/50 I'd say but there's a chance.

Fumbles Recovered
The current record: 4, set by someone on Tijuana around Season 7.
The current leader: 3, by Brian Mills IV of Tijuana. On pace for 4.2.

The outlook: Random stat, needs 2 in 4 games so it's unlikely but the volatility makes it possible.

Sacks
The current record: 18, set by Andres Waiters of Portland around Season 3.
The current leader: 9, by Young Spaghetti of Tijuana. On pace for 12.6.

The outlook: Almost 0%. Tijuana has two games against San Antonio and their rush-first offense and even if they played four pass-happy teams to end the season 10 sacks in 4 games is a tall order.

Tackles
The current record: 142, set by someone on Tijuana around Season 5.
The current leader: 98, by Jesse Marchand of San Antonio. On pace for 137.2.

The outlook: Possible but unlikely. I don't know how Marchand is utilized by San Antonio to judge whether the offenses he'll face will keep him on pace but it just seems unlikely.

Field Goals Made
The current record: 30, set by Kyle Corbett of Tijuana last season.
The current leader: 19, by Derrick DeMarco of San Antonio. On pace for 26.6.

The outlook: After Corbett's crazy run to break the record last season I didn't expect to see it challenged for awhile but DeMarco has a decent shot. He's only attempted (and made) 3 field goals against the Luchadores in their two meetings this season but if the Luchadores can stall the Marshals offense those field goals could come in buckets with how Brown should be churning out yards. Still, 12 in 4 games is a lot so I don't expect it.

Individual Records
NSFL
Touchdowns
Passing
The current record: 44, set by King Bronko in Season 5.
The current leader: 25, by Mike Boss. On pace for 28.

The outlook: Nope. Boss is having a great season as he regresses but nope.

Rushing
The current record: 18, set by Robby Rainey last season.
The current leader: 20, by Darren Smallwood. On pace for 28.

The outlook: Already smashed, Smallwood and Owen Taylor (18) will be competing to set a mark that may never be reached if goal line strategies are capped.

Receiving
The current record: 16, set by Josh Garden in Season 4.
The current leader: 11, by Carlito Crush. On pace for 15.4.

The outlook: Needing 6 touchdowns in 4 games, this isn't out of the realm of possibility. The Otters finish their season @ Baltimore, vs Yellowknife, @ Arizona, @ Colorado. The first two games should be competitive and the Otters should be able to use whatever strategies they want for Arizona. Even though he's below pace I think this one will come down to that last game.

Defensive
The current record: 4, set by Ryan Flock in Season 2.
The current leader: 2, by (surprise!) Ryan Flock. On pace for 2.8.

The outlook: Nope. He doesn't play Mike Boss again this season so his interception numbers will slow down a lot, giving him fewer opportunities for touchdowns.

Punt Return
The current record: 2, set by Josh Garden in Season 4.
The current leader: 2, by Dermot Lavelle. On pace for 2.8.

The outlook: Nope. Even though he only needs 1 more Lavelle is done with his games against New Orleans so his non-offensive touchdowns are over.

Kick Return
The current record: 3, set by Bailey Cook in Season 6.
The current leader: 1, by Dermot Lavelle and Darren Morris. On pace for 1.4.

The outlook: Nope, see above plus 3 in 4 games is ridiculous.

Yardage
Passing
The current record: 5,545, set by Mike Boss in Season 5.
The current leader: 3,796, by Mike Boss. On pace for 5,314.

The outlook: Infinitely more likely than the touchdown record. Initially @ Arizona, as Boss faces the worst passing defense in the league, looks pretty juicy to get him toward this record but The game shouldn't be in doubt so they should be doing a lot of running. I don't see this one falling but if he has big games against Baltimore and Yellowknife the next two weeks I may change my mind.

Rushing
The current record: 1,461, set by Reg Mackworthy in Season 8.
The current leader: 1,125, by Red Mackworthy. On pace for 1,575.

The outlook: I think this one will fall. I had Smallwood here before and cba going back and doing it over for Mackworthy but dude is hard carrying the Outlaws and has plenty of buffer in his pace.

Receiving
The current record: 1,860, set by Jordan Yates in Season 6.
The current leader: 1,139, by Carlito Crush. On pace for 1,595.

The outlook: Nope. 730 yards in 4 games is too much.

Punt Return
The current record: 588, set by Josh Garden in Season 4.
The current leader: 375, by Dermot Lavelle. On pace for 525.

The outlook: I think this one will fall, too. The Wraiths defense has been solid and they have home games against San Jose, Colorado, and Philadelphia remaining. Lavelle should get a lot of returns in those games. He racked up 268 yards in the away match ups against those three teams, which is enough to smash the record.

Kick Return
The current record: 1,636, set by Mayran Jackson in Season 8.
The current leader: 854, by Darren Morris. On pace for 1,196.

The outlook: No. Even though the Arizona defense resembles pylons that's too much.

Volume
Pass Attempts
The current record: 695, set by Mat Akselsen in Season 5.
The current leader: 479, by Mike Boss. On pace for 671.

The outlook: 50/50. If the Otters need to air it out against Baltimore and Yellowknife he could definitely close in on this record quickly.

Pass Completions
The current record: 420, set by Mike Boss in Season 6.
The current leader: 279, by Mike Boss. On pace for 391.

The outlook: Same as above. He's quite a bit further behind the pace here so I'd say it's less likely.

Rush Attempts
The current record: 409, set by Ardie Savea in Season 4.
The current leader: 267, by Darren Smallwood. On pace for 374.

The outlook: Almost as many attempts behind this record as Brown is behind O'Sullivan's I likewise see this as improbable. He'd need 35-36 attempts a game the rest of the way.

Catches
The current record: 135, set by Paul DiMirio in Season 6.
The current leader: 75, by Carlito Crush. On pace for 105.

The outlook: 15 catches per game for 4 games? No.

Interceptions
The current record: 10, set by NSFLPA CEO Isaiah Rashad in Season 1.
The current leader: 5, by Marc Spector and Ryan Flock. On pace for 7.

The outlook: No. Unless Kolbe is feeling very generous in which case it's still no.

Fumbles Forced
The current record: 4, set by Bjork Bjorrnsson in Season 2.
The current leader: 3, by 4 players. On pace for 4.2.

The outlook: Unlikely but with 4 players sitting with 3 it's likely this record is tied. One of them just needs a bit of RNG help for this one to go down.

Fumbles Recovered
The current record: 4, set by Luke Tiernan in Season 5.
The current leader: 3, by Cameron Taylor. On pace for 4.2.

The outlook: Very unlikely.

Sacks
The current record: 32, set by Jayce Tuck in Season 3.
The current leader: 12, by Kendrick Hendrix and Ryan Sierra. On pace for 17.

The outlook: Lol no.

Tackles
The current record: 144, set by Kendrick Hendrix in Season 1.
The current leader: 89, by Vincent Sharpei. On pace for 125.

The outlook: Two seasons removed from coming agonizingly close to the record with 140 tackles in Season 7, Sharpei now has a very talented linebacking corps around him that suppresses his numbers. Unfortunately not gonna happen.

Field Goals Made
The current record: 42, set by Stephen Harris in Season 7.
The current leader: 23, by Iyah Blewitt. On pace for 32.

The outlook: Blewitt is having a great penultimate season but he's not getting 20 field goals in 4 games.

Team Records
(this will focus on defense since the offensive records are going to basically be the individual records)
DSFL
Points & Yards
Points Scored
The current record: 393, set by Portland in Season 7, the team that very humbly calls themselves the best DSFL team ever.
The current leader: 250, scored by Kansas City. On pace for 350.

The outlook: Probably not. But more on this in the next one.

Points Allowed
The current record: 177, set in Season 5 by Portland.
The current leader: 175, by Portland. On pace for 245.

The outlook: 0% chance of this one but with the Points For leader and Points Against leader squaring off twice more in the final four games it could radically reshape the pace for Points Scored - in either direction.

Rushing Yards Allowed
The current record: 1,119, set by Norfolk in Season 3.
The current leader: 1,189, by Kansas City. On pace for 1,665.

The outlook: Already allowed too many. Nope. Gonna be hard to beat this record with how much the DSFL has turned to a rushing league. Perhaps as we start seeing more capped quarterbacks staying down that'll change.

Passing Yards Allowed
The current record: 1,970, set by Palm Beach in Season 5.
The current leader: 1,858, by Tijuana. On pace for 2,601.

The outlook: Nope.

Turnovers
The current record: 36, set by Tijuana in Season 8.
The current leader: 30, by San Antonio. On pace for 42.

The outlook: This one is looking likely to fall as the Marshals have quite a bit of a buffet and two games against bot teams. Luckily for the Luchadores a lot of the defense of their record will be in their hands. If they can keep turnovers to a minimum in their two games, the Marshals will need big performances against the bots.

Statistics
Tackles
The current record: 766, set by Chicago in Season 4.
The current leader: 555, by Portland. On pace for 777.

The outlook: As above, the Portland-Kansas City games are going to have a big impact on this pace. In the end I think they will break this record and close in on 800. The bot teams seem to be more offensive than defensive so I'd expect a fair number of tackles in those games and quick scores the other way.

Sacks
The current record: 73, set by San Antonio in Season 8.
The current leader: 33, by Norfolk. On pace for 46.

The outlook: Lol no.

Interceptions
The current record: 36, set by Tijuana in Season 8.
The current leader: 25, by San Antonio. On pace for 35.

The outlook: This is going to be really interesting but I think they'll fall just short. Falconi has been steadily improving all season and is closing in on the DSFL TPE cap so she should be able to keep the interceptions down compared to the 4 San Antonio racked up in their previous two match ups (2 of those against Metaxas). That said, San Antonio should face a lot of passing attempts against the two bot teams so we shall see.

Passes Defensed
The current record: 68, set by Norfolk in Season 4.
The current leader: 46, by San Antonio. On pace for 64.

The outlook: Much the same reasoning as above. I'm not sure how exactly the progression goes but if Falconi's improvement turns some interceptions into defended passes and some defended passes into receptions then this record is looking prime to be broken. If Falconi's improvement turns some interceptions into receptions and also turns some defended passes into receptions then this is going to be a tough ask. Should be close.

Defensive Touchdowns
The current record: 8, set by San Antonio in Season 8.
The current leader: 4, by Norfolk. On pace for 5.6.

The outlook: Nope.

Turnovers

Team Records
NSFL
Points & Yards
Points Scored
The current record: 471, set by Orange County in Season 6.
The current leader: 370, by New Orleans. On pace for 518.

The outlook: Games @ Colorado, @ Arizona, vs San Jose make this look very attainable. In the first match ups against those three teams the Second Line scored 138 points so it's conceivable that this record falls before the final game of the season. One way or another this record should fall.

Points Allowed
The current record: 166, set by Arizona in Season 3.
The current leader: 151, by New Orleans. On pace for 211.

The outlook: Until a massive choke at home against Yellowknife yesterday where the Second Line allowed 30 points this looked unlikely but possible, at this point it's almost certainly out of the question. Baltimore is likely to score enough by themselves to bust the chances here.

Rushing Yards Allowed
The current record: 853, set by Yellowknife in Season 4.
The current leader: 1,020, by San Jose. On pace for 1,428.

The outlook: Already impossible.

Passing Yards Allowed
The current record: 2,139, set by Orange County in Season 1.
The current leader: 2,246, by New Orleans. On pace for 3,144.

The outlook: Already impossible.

Statistics
Tackles
The current record: 798, set by Colorado in Season 4.
The current leader: 570, by Colorado. On pace for - wait for it - 798.

The outlook: My guess is that right when it looks like Colorado might break this record they'll collapse and have to start rebuilding again.

Sacks
The current record: 108, set by Arizona in Season 3.
The current leader: 41, by Colorado. On pace for 57.

The outlook: Good lord no.

Interceptions
The current record: 28, set by San Jose in Season 4.
The current leader: 16, by New Orleans. On pace for 22.

The outlook: Good lord no.

Passes Defensed
The current record: 96, set by Yellowknife in Season 8.
The current leader: 59, by New Orleans and Yellowknife. On pace for 83.

The outlook: Both teams should spend a lot of time ahead the rest of the season so it's plausible that one could get close but no, probably not gonna happen.

Defensive Touchdowns
The current record: 7, set by Arizona in Season 2.
The current leader: 2, by 4 teams. On pace for 3.

The outlook: Absolutely not.

Turnovers
The current record: 35, set by San Jose in Season 4.
The current leader: 21, by New Orleans. On pace for 29.

The outlook: Even with big games against Colorado, Arizona, and San Jose they shouldn't sniff this record. They'd need 4 turnovers a game in each of those 3 and then 3 more against Baltimore.

Damn you Chris Orozs! Gus T.T. Showbiz wanted some of those passing records but I gotta split time with his :scrub: ass.

Mostly joking, I get it, everybody should get to play. It was just so damn promising until the draft.

Either way, go OCO and KCC !
