Well, I was drafted. But we are going to talk about it a bit later in today's blog post. The first thing I want to touch on is the OBVIOUS and BLATANT DISRESPECT to my name in ALL but A COUPLE draft preview/review posts.
Seriously? My stats were average? THEY WOULD OBVIOUSLY BE IN A RUN-HEAVY DSFL! "He is going to fall because he did not improve that much in his 1st DSFL season." "The only reason he may not fall is his attitude." Yeah, right. You all hit the nail on the head. 6th safety taken of the board, early in the 4th round. Before the draft I said I could be picked somewhere between the 5th and the 8th round. But even though the class was big, I had not conducted some proper research. I could be a 3rd round pick, but when a team doesn't need a safety, or has already picked one, or two if you are the Hawks, you unfortunately fall. Not that I am unhappy with when I got called or where I am headed. Nah... I can adapt in any situation and bring some winning attitude to the table and move from there.
What I can't stand is the disrespect from the so-called "analysts" and "specialists". Norfolk had a top 3 defence in DSFL last season. Can you guess who was playing as a safety for that team? Come on! Not that hard... I will give you a few more seconds to think.......... Yup, you got it. IT WAS ME! Being paired with Logan Uchiha (@CalvinP) helped, since he is one of the best safeties around, but the stats don't always tell the truth. Especially as I was playing the Free Safety position. NOT THE STRONG SAFETY ONE as all those self-proclaimed analysts kept saying. Logan at SS, Kroustis at FS. That's why Logan had so good stats while mine were "average". Have you even seen a FS get sacks and TFLs? Stop watching football if you were expecting things like that. Sheesh! But it comes to show how much attention they were paying to Norfolk. I know, I am ranting, but I had to do it. It was way over due. And you are going to see more ranting in this series moving forward. I am sick of being the good guy and not giving a damn crap about whatever anyone says. Rant over, let's move to the next part of the blog.
As I said at the beginning, I was drafted 34th overall by the Yellowknife Wraiths. On the same team with Logan and Ryan Leaf Jr. (@[ValorX55]), bringing the Norfolk synergy at Yellowknife. Sure, Leafer and I will get sent back to Norfolk for this season, but who cares? It's one season. We are coming for the Ultimus next season. But first, the Ultimini. And from the info I have, the Norfolk HO hit the nail on the head at the draft. Both picks were great. Especially the choice of Dermot Lavelle Jr., son of the legendary Wraith, Dermot Lavelle. I think we are in a pretty good position to win the Ultimini. Well, we are going to. Why? Because! That's it. Win and be part of the history books. Lose and be forgotten. Or get to ring chasing as Marquise Brown is doing. But that's another story for another blog.
Here, I would like to take a moment and thank @Bigred1580 and the YKW organisation for believing in me and deciding on drafting me. I won't disappoint you guys, be sure about it. As for the "analysts", just keep doing what you are doing. Give me motivation. Because that's what a player needs. Just what my dad kept telling me: "You know son, people will disrespect you as you grow into the player you were destined to be. You got two options. It's going to affect you whatever option to choose, but the options are clear. Either let it keep you down and allow them to disrespect you, or use it as fuel to shut them up. It's obvious what you should do, what choice you should make. But it's easy to say it. You have to do it."
As for games and playing, something I have been itching for since the Draft day, the preseason begins tonight. Let's get this bread!
Thank you for following the series. See you on the next one!
Peace!
