The start of season 21 DSFL football is now upon us, with the season opener set to 8pm EST of Tuesday, 10th of march. Dallas Birddogs, one of our two newest expansion franchises, is set to set the sails of their inaugural season with home game against the London Royals, a fellow expansion team. Here, we will project their starting lineup and how those players will fit thr scheme.
First, let's start with offense. As this article is written, the best lineup for the Birddogs offense looks like this, considering both TPE and activeness in forum and locker rooms.
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]
Lim /Bot / Bot / Bot /Bot /Bot / Phillips /Lee
Jack
Goodman / K.Jones(Hex, Feels, Rechs)[/div]
First overall pick of this year's draft, Monteray Jack, will be standing under center for the Birddogs. Jack, a rare lefty gunslinger standing at 6'5 215lbs, has superb throw power and accuracy, with both at 80. He is also quite intelligent with 78 intellgence stat, which will help immensely when he makes decisions under pressure. Jack can make all throws ranging from short to long with ease, and can evade risky throws if able, easily finding open receivers on other places with his vision in pocket and intelligence. Although Monty is not much of a running quarterback(like his brother Colby) with only 40 speed and 45 agility, he more than makes up of that weakness with his passing abilities and the fact that he probably wouldn't need to leave the protection of pocket much as he has abundant weapons in his offense.
Speaking of weapons, the most prominent ones will be the wide receivers. Although only 2 out of 4 wide receivers the Birddogs drafted are active, those two are a force to be reckoned with. One of those two is Mike Lee, a freak athlete who is rumoured to have ran a 4.35 forty with his 6'3 225lb frame. Lee will be giving corners across the league quite a headache as he will be unstoppable in straight running situations with 86 speed and his frame. However, he tends to be slowed down a lot when he turns corner as his agility is only 65, and may have a lot of drops as he has only 58 in catching department. His low endurence might also be a concern.
Mike Lee's opposite site partner is William Lim, a converted baseball shortstop standing at 6'2" 195lbs. Lim is a great partner with Lee as he has the exact opposite playing style from him. Lim's greatest is his hands, which,at 80, is among higher levels in DSFLand helps him to catch almost everything that is thrown his way. And while he's not that of a speedster like Lee, he possesses decent speed at 78. However, that might not be enough to peel off top corners in the league as his agility is also not that high at 70. Like Lee, Lim also might experience some problem playing all 4 quarters as his endurance is a little higher than Lee but is quite low.
Other great weapon for Monteray Jack comes in form of Jerrery Phillips, a high draft pick in tight end position. Phillips, who is 6'7", 240lbs, will provide an ideal red zone target option with his frame and his great speed for a tight end(85) while also assuming the role of slot receiver of the offense in place of a third wide receiver. His endurance, at 70, is also high enough to play the whole game without any trouble unlike the wide receivers. However, phillips might not be much of an asset in blocking schemes, as his pass and run blocking is only 25 respectively, and his strength is only 44, a low number for a tight end.
And that is where Zee Rechs comes into play. Rechs a tight end out of Texas A&M standing at 6'4"245lb, is more of a balanced player than Phillips. That makes him a more valued asset in blocking assignments especially in run games with his run blocking and strength attribute, which are both at 50. Rechs also has better hands than Phillips ,at 70, but his value as a pass catching target is undermined because of his low speed(63) and agility(55)
Another asset in tight end department is Tristan Hex, a late round gem found from this year's draft. Out of Kentucky, Hex is a big man standing at 6'7" 247lbs. And even though his stats are generally quite low now due to him having only 69TPEs, he has been constantly improving since been drafted. Hex will be a valuable asset in various situations, even more so when he continues to improve like he does now.
In running back department, the obvious RB1 candidate is White Goodman. Standing stout at 5'6 210lbs, Goodman is a versatile running back with his fast speed(85), and his above average agility(70). He is also able to join on passing game as another threat as he has very reliable hands at 70. Goodman also has high endurance and will have no problem playing full time in a game. While he is not the strongest running back or best blocker, but those shortcomings can be easily negated by his other attributes and the type of assignment he is given, as he will be more utilized off back field than as a blocker.
Another good running back for the squad is Kichwa Jones. Jones, a former Tennessee Volunteer, stands at 5 foot 11and exactly 200 pounds. Jones is a typical north-south runner, as his speed is one of the fastest in the whole team with 88. He doesn't give opposing run stoppers no chance to catch him while running straight. However, his low agility(57)and catching stats limit him from being used in variety of situations. Nevertheless, Jones is quite valuable to this offense as he is, because he is one of the best backfield speedsters.
Another important member of running back corps is Aaron Feels, another speedy runningback out of Washington. Slightly heavier than Jones at 5'11" 210lbs, Feels is also a late round gem, who improved immensely through personal training and training camp after being drafted. Feels is also a fast north-south runner who will be splitting rushing load with Goodman Jones.
Now, it's time to meet the defence. Starting lineup of Birddogs defence lookes like this according to TPE and activity.
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]
Schiaparelli / Barlow /MacAndrew / Mendoza
Konievpolski / McCartney / Mango- Panda
Cho / D. Jones / Edd / Hunter[/div]
The strongest unit of the Birddogs defence is unarguably their front seven. The birddogs will be using a 4-3 based defence as they have two good defensive tackles who can also rush the quarterback while stopping opposing runningbacks. One of those two tackle is Deshun Jones, the 26th overall pick of this year's draft. Jones is a big man at 6 feet 6 and 310 pounds. The run stuffer snuffs out running backs with his incredible strength, mesured at 82. He is not just a run stopper, though, as he can be a scary threat to quarterbacks with his whooping 75 speed. Jones can be utilized on all kinds of situations and will excel on all of them. However, he might need some rest between here and there in game as his endurance level is not that high.
Lining up beside Jones is Big Edd. Edd, a Pitt graduate standing at 6'5" 310lbs, is another late round shiner for the Birddogs. He started to develop at a scary speed right after he got drafted and is now dubbed "snacks" by his teammates because he 'devours O-linemen for main course and eats quarterbacks for snacks'. Edd, a fearsome interior rusher, certainly is a nightmare material for offensive linemen and quarterbacks with his great speed(72) and his above-average strength(70). It will be nearly impossible to block both Jones and Edd once they rain upon O-line with their full might. The only downside of Edd is his low endurance, which would require some rest during games.
Lining up at defensive end alongside Jones and Edd is James Cho, another Washingtom alum standing at 6'5" 280lbs. Cho is another speedy, scary edge rusher with his astounding 80 speed and 70 strength. He is also a sure tackler and can play whole game easily. The seventh round pick is a great addition to Jones and Edd-both speedy interior rushers- as he will form a mutually beneficial bond with them by applying even more pressure from the edge, further diminishing the time opposing quarterback is allowed to have in the pocket.
On the opposite side from James Cho, there is Danielle Hunter, 6'5" 300lbs defensive end out of LSU tigers. Hunter is the slowest among the four starting defensive linemen with 70 speed, but that speed attribute will be considered quite fast in any defensive line in DSFL. To complement his 'lack' of speed, Hunter is quite strong, with 77 strength. With those balanced attributes, he will make a good final piece to a scary defensive line alongside Jones, Edd, and Cho.
Behind those four fearsome linemen lies the linebacker corps, headed by the pole Stanislaw Konievpolski. Standing at 6'5" 265lbs, Konievpolski, who was considered the top linebacker of the draft class, excels in both pass rushing and coverage situations utilizing his great speed(85) and strength(70). He is also a sure tackler at 77 tackling. Konievpolski will act as a swiss army knife in his position, lending helping hand to both defensive line and secondary defenders on their times of need.
Konievpolski's partner is Haha Mango- Panda, a former quarterback who changed position to linebacker after being drafted as Monteray Jack's backup. At 6'3" and 235lbs, Mango-panda is primarily a pass rusher with speed measured at 81 and strength of 71, but can lend a helping hand at coverage according to schemes utilizing his speed. Mango-panda is expected to act as a field general of the defensive side as he has a lot of knowledge on opposing offenses that he retained from his days as a quarterback.
At the back of the Birddogs defense stands two cornerbacks and two safties.
Standing at strong safety is Eric Barlow, a center fielder style player out of university of Buffalo. Barlow, standing at 5'11, 205lbs, is a prime candidate for a strong safety, as he is quite smart with 65 intelligence and has decent speed(75) and hands(65) necessary for defending passes and possibly scoring interceptions. He is also a reliable tackler with 50 tackling skills. Barlow will make a good SS especially he has strong pass rush and linebacker help to boost his ability. Barlow will also play nickelback in nickel situations, leaving his original duty as SS to his colleagues.
Alongside Barlow at free safety is Hamish MacAndrew, an international player from glasgow, Scotland. At 5'11, 200lbs, MacAndrew has good speed at 77 and also has good hands at 65, which gives him ability to attack the ball and get interceptions. He is also a hard and sure tackler with 53 tackling. He will also have no problem running up and down the field for whole game as he has high endurance stats. MacAndrew will play as free safety mostly, but will move to strong safety position in nickelback situations where Barlow, the original strong safety, leaves to play as the nickel.
In those nickleback situations, the gap in free safety spot will be filled by J.R Maverick. Maverick is originally drafted as a cornerback, but he can do well as a free safety as he has good speed(72)and hand(57), as well as having good intelligence of 65. This made him the prime candidate to fill any gaps in secondary defence, and Maverick seized it, securing his spot as a part time starting free safety for the team.
On cornerback position, we have xaq Schiaparelli. A cornerback of smaller size at 5'9, 185lbs, Schiaparelli, a graduate of Northwestern university, is a prime candidate of number 1 cornerback as he has good speed of 75, and agility of 70, which will make him to easily lock out slower or less agile wide receivers. He also has a good hand at 70, which will help him grab some interceptions during the course of season. Schiaparelli made a lot of improvements ilon himself since being drafted in round 9, and has emerged as a good corner in every team in DSFL'S standard.
His partner is Colt Mendoza, another late round gem snagged by the Birddogs. Mendoza is also fast and agile like his partner Schiaparelli, possessing 77 speed and 70 agility stats. He also has high endurance at 68, and decent hands of 50 which will help him do a variety of things including locking out receivers, blitzing, and making interceptions.
