Alright y’all! Time to switch it up for a different perspective and some interesting pre-draft GM insight. Boomer Duck and Ducky Howser were kind enough to give me some time to share the knowledge. I hit them with some pretty standard league stuff and tried to get into more pre-draft specific stuff as well.
What stands out in your mind about the huge DSFL draft class of S21?
BD- Probably just how many solid contributor we were able to get. Our drafts weren't perfect, but we got some amazing players that I'm proud to have on the team.
DH-The size of the Draft class was just massive. I’m not sure any of the GMs were expecting anything quite that large. Its been great for the league though we got tons of extremely active players.
What was the biggest challenge for you as a DSFL GM in S21?
BD- Scouting the class, no doubt. When you have to interview hundreds of people, it gets really tedious. But you have to do it.
DH- Scouting for the draft was the most difficult part. We got into the process with short notice and we didn't have the time to scout as in depth as we wanted. We are still very happy with our draft, but we could have avoided drafting some IA’s earlier.
What do you look forward to in S22?
BD- My focus right now is filling the inevitable holes this draft is going to leave in the team. A lot of players are gonna get a call up, so we need to fill those holes fast. Getting the team on track, hopefully. We had a pretty disappointing season so I'm hoping we can bounce back and be competitive.
DH- I’m excited to start scouting, adding more people to the flock. In additon to get to play some games and get this team back into the championship picture.
What makes a prospect marketable?
BD-Just being active and talking in the discords as well as activity on the forums are good starting points. Media is a bonus.
I would say a great way for a prospect to market them self is to be just be active in the chats. The more often we see your name the better of a chance we would draft you, as long as the reasons we’re see it isn’t for bad reasons
What do prospects do differently to stand out?
BD- Activity as well as high quality media is what I'm looking for. If you're talking a lot as well as writing a lot, I notice
DH- Be active in chats as I've previously mentioned but going Media or grpahics is a great way to be noticed too. Thats going the extra mile. If thats not your thing reach out to the GMs if they have reached out to you. Thats gonna show them you’re active and you want to be there.
How would you tier your expectations as a drafter by round?
.
BD-This draft, I'm not expecting that many prospects to be available, simply because it's not an r/NFL class. So the first 3 or 4 rounds will contain the great prospects, round 5 will contain the borderline guys and anything after that is basically a dartboard.
DH- As a GM I obviously want my top picks to be very high earners. This should be the players who do almost every TPE item available. Then as you transition i believe to start to look for people who are great LR players who you hope you can help get into a routine and make them solid earners.
There you have it! That’s jewels for all you S23 prospects for sure. The guys were able to shed a little light on some S21 stuff as well.
Thanks for checking me out and keep your eyes open for more!
Thanks again! JR
Please split the money evenly between Boomer, Ducky, and I
