Well it's been awhile since my last update and so much has changed. We are through twelve weeks of the DSFL season and the Buccaneers find themselves sitting at a record of 6-6. On a normal year, or in another conference, we would still be in the playoff hunt. However the football gods are not smiling on us as we have been eliminated from contention with two weeks remaining. Instead of dwelling on the past, I am going to use this article to talk about our remaining games and what the mean to our team and what my hopes are for the ISFL draft.
The last two weeks of S24
Despite being out of the running for the championship, the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers have a lot to prove in our final two games. First and foremost is to put together a winning season. Even if we can't make the playoffs being part of a winning team means something to me and the other players in the locker room. We are going to go out fighting to give our fans a show. We also believe the Buccaneers are in a place to set the tone for next season. This team will probably return quite a few players to the roster and we want to end on a high note so that we are ready to rumble in S25. Finally, the last piece that is important for a large portion of the team and for myself is the upcoming ISFL draft. These last two games let us showcase our skills to all those ISFL scouts that will be in attendance. We want to show them that someone who plays for the Buccaneers never gives up and will bring that attitude to whatever team will be drafting us at the end of the season. And the discussion of the draft segues into my next topic....
My hopes for the ISFL draft
Now to get it out of the way in the first sentence, I will not be naming any teams that I hope will draft me. This is simply to inform GMs/Scouts where my head is at coming into the ISFL Draft.
1. I have no preference on the team that selects me. That's right I am excited to join and play with any team in the future, whether it be a new expansion team or who ever wins the Ultimus this season. You will get someone ready to come in and work hard for a spot on the team.
2. I do not care about being sent back down to the DSFL for a season. I know I am not the top prospect in this draft and my game still needs a lot of work. I love my family here in Myrtle Beach and don't mind returning. I trust the GM of the ISFL that drafts me to accurately evaluate my ability to play at the next level and call me up when I am ready. I promise you won't hear a peep out of me about playing time or coming to the next level, I will just be working at honing my craft.
3. I would like to stay at WR but am open to a change if the team really needs it. Please don't pick me with the intention of changing my position as soon as possible, but if we lose a key free agent or a blockbuster trade can be made but it leaves us with a hole than yeah I will change to cover that for the team. All of this leads up to my final point...
4. This is the most important point to me, I want to Win. I want to join a team that has a game plan to compete at the highest level. I do not care at all about my statistics as long as the wins are piling up.
I know I have already had some scouting conversations with ISFL teams. I hope to be able to talk to all the teams before the draft but understand if we are unable to connect. Just know I am ready to be a part of your organization and help us lift as many trophies as possible.
Much Luv,
Zach
