***Titles and Phatahl’s “Just Doing Me” kicks in, slowly fading down to just be heard in the background as narrator comes in***
Narrator: Last time out we left our main man L’Gazzy Burfict at the London Royals stadium in the lead up to the ISFL draft. Star reporter BoBo Saxton was a little worse for wear after celebrating a little too long and hard, but that’s the way BoBo does things as I’m sure you all know! So where does that leave tonight’s episode? Well for sure we’re going to learn about how L’Gazzy fared in the ISFL draft and get his thoughts on the future. But there is going to be a relaxed vibe so lets join our man in London, BoBo Saxton, to take us away – over to you, BoBo.
***We join reporter BoBo Saxton in the kitchen of L’Gazzy Burficts new apartment in central London. He’s grabbing a few snacks together and laying them out on a tray; scotch eggs, beef jerky, nachos, cocktail sausages, skips. BoBo is dressed casually in a black and gold flannel London Royals tracksuit, a little tight around the midriff.***
BoBo Saxton: Huh, thanks a lot. Right, so first up, I’m pleased to say that I’m feeling a lot better today. Go hard or go home, and there was plenty to celebrate with the London Royals winning the Ultimini. And today, well, we fancied a little change up, and when you get invited over to play xbox you can’t say no, right?
L’Gazzy Burfict: Yo BoBo, where you at, and don’t forget the brown sauce man, you know we need that. Now you sure you wanna play NCAA38? You know I’m gonna beat yo ass again!
BoBo Saxton: Huh, I got the sauce don’t’ worry. And how do you know that I’ve not been practicing, you don’t know what I get up to when I’m not following you around.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Listen BoBo, I don’t need or want to know about that man, you’re an interesting person lets leave it there. Anyway, get over here with those snacks, games loading up man.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, right, here we go, this should cover us for know and if not I know a little place around the corner… they do the (in terrible cockney accent) best pie and mash, me ol' mucka.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Hey, whatever man. Sit down.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, ok then. Right, where are we. So, draft night was exciting wasn’t it, a little different for you this time I bet. Tell us a little about the whole experience.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Sure BoBo, well, here it is. Obviously last time out, getting drafted by the London Royals into the DSLF, that was all new for me. I was there, listening out for the picks with my family, back home in Shubuta. So yeah, this time was pretty different. Me and a few of the boys got ourselves some fine ass suits, look our best for the night you know. I mean, those guys going places. First rounders, shout out to my boys Swanty, Rusch and Crunk, believe they taking the league by storm! But, sorry, getting ahead of myself a little.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, yeah slow down L’Gazzy. Right, how do I use this thing again?
*BoBo gestures to L’Gazzy to show him how to use the xbox controller. L’Gazzy sighs and takes him through the basic controls. A game is loaded up – L’Gazzys’ Rutgers facing up against Mississippi State*
L’Gazzy Burfict: Right, lets do this. And while I’m beating your ass let me continue. So yeah, the draft night, we were all suited and booted, together among friends and family at the stadium. I’d had some positive discussions with a number of scouts and I’ll be honest, I’d kinda had a good think about where I might be going, where I might land. There had been a few trades made before the draft, and obviously a few throughout the night. So it was difficult to pin too much on that if I’m honest. And then I’m SACK CITY, TAKE THAT MAN!
*Camera cuts to the screen, Burfict has just sacked the oppositions QB, with Albert Ruschmann recovering the fumble to give Rutgers the ball*
BoBo Saxton: Huh, this is gonna be a long night if you’re playing like that, gotta give me a chance L’Gazzy. So you were saying.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Sure thing BoBo, I am taking it easy. So yeah, first up my man Swanty got taken, heading to that new team over in Berlin. I’ve heard about that place, nightlife can get pretty crazy, can’t wait to see how he does over there. And a few picks later, Rusch gets the call to head to Colorado. They traded up to take him and I don’t blame him, man got great numbers this year. And then what do you know, my man Crunk gets taken at eight, off to Arizona. Three Royals in the first round, the place was jumping, it was crazy in there. Those three worked so hard this year and looked a step ahead; almost as if they had personal trainers or something else going on that we didn’t know about. So pleased for them.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, yeah, it was getting pretty lively in there after those three picks came through. But did that get you thinking, would you be the fourth Royals player taken, and did you think there was a chance that because of the Ultimini your name may have risen up a few teams draft boards?
L’Gazzy Burfict: Listen BoBo, sure, you can start to think things like that. But its dangerous. And yeah we TOUCHDOWN!
*Camera cuts to Rutgers taking the ball over for a TD*
L’Gazzy Burfict: Yeah, we did win the Ultimini, but that was the team, not individuals. So when the second round came and went, I thought, yeah, this is me now.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, so ok, right, pause the game, I can’t concentrate with you moving the ball so quickly. So the third round, where were you thinking you could end up?
L’Gazzy Burfict: Ha, ok. Well sure. You look at the board and yeah, so I’m thinking… there is a chance I’m gonna join one of the Royals here. You know, you had Rusch out in Colorado, Crunk had been taken by Arizona and one of my key mentors, Domine, he was out in Chicago. So I figured, yeah, one of those is gonna take me up. So yeah, I was delighted when Arizona called my name out. Heading out to link up with Gunner, with Crunk, with the other Royals rookies, can’t wait.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, well you’ll still be staying in London, at least for another season right?
L’Gazzy Burfict: Yeah so I signed the contract today and yeah, I will still be linking up with the Royals in the beautiful city of London next season. Can’t wait, it would have felt strange to leave so soon, feels like only yesterday we got here man.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, sure, now just before we move on let me push a little deeper. Were you surprised, considering your numbers, your combine, as a Linebacker that you weren’t taken earlier? I mean, I think you were maybe the eighth Linebacker taken on draft night, what were the others offering that you’re not?
L’Gazzy Burfict: Ha, BoBo, don’t make me laugh. Listen, I’m gonna give it to you straight. There were some great Linebackers out there on show last season. A great class of rookies coming in, and an already great base of one year pros. In London we had two of, if not, the best in Juan and Busch.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, so I see, and yeah I know. With Domine and Light in the roster I think you only ended up having ¾ of the plays as them – as you’d expect as a number three right.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Sure, something like that. I mean, we won the Ultimini, and the LB core was a big big part of that. I mean, would my numbers have been higher had I been starting more plays? Would my numbers have been higher if we had a lame ass offence who kept turning the ball over through the game? I’ll let you figure that one out BoBo. But hey, we’ll see what happens this season, maybe I’ll eat my words, but I told you I’d tell you like it is. That’s just how I feel
BoBo Saxton: Huh, that’s some good honest opinion right there, so…
L’Gazzy Burfict: And sure, you look at the draft board, you see the order, the teams. And I’m thinking, I know Chicago are looking for a LB, and me and Juan had some great plays out there this season. He knows what I’m about, I figured maybe he’d put in a good word for me, you know. But Gleel is a solid pick at 35, he’s gonna enjoy himself out there. No way Arizona be passing up on me and I’m super excited to join them man, can’t wait. Pick 36 – sure as hell an improvement on going 77 last time out, am I right!?
BoBo Saxton: Huh, yeah it’s great to see you heading out there. I know you had a solid conversation with their GM – don’t worry I won’t say more than that – and I’m sure they got some big ideas and big things planned for when you join the roster out there.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Sure BoBo, I’m thankful, I feel blessed that the team believes in me, in what I got. Gonna play like I know I can this season, hopefully give the fans here in London something more to cheer about and then after that, who knows, maybe I head over to Arizona to link up with the new guys, we’ll see.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, yeah I for one look forward to seeing you in action this season. And unlike last season of course, you’re now one of the vets, so to speak. You got a new crop of rookies coming to join you very soon, it’s only a few more days until the draft kicks off.
L’Gazzy Burfict: Yeah it is BoBo, look forward to that one. I know they been working hard up in London, reaching out to the rookies, trying to figure out who will be a good fit. I mean, the coaching staff did such an amazing job with my class of rookies; no way anyone had a better draft than the London Royals, the Ultimini don’t lie. And yeah, I’m looking forward to meeting the new players, see who I gonna be lining up with, see who I can hopefully give some tips to, same way that Busch and Juan did for me, you know man.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, sure, I’d expect nothing less from a pro like yourself. Now, one last question and then we can finish the rest of this game. Do you have a message for the GMs who passed on you in the draft, anything you want to say about that?
L’Gazzy Burfict: You know, BoBo, ha, the only thing I’m thinking of is killing it in London this season, breaking some records, and then heading off to Arizona and helping them win the Ultimus. That isn’t too much to ask, right? I don’t care about any of the other GMs, they do what they do, I do what I do. I’ll be seeing their boys out on the field some day though, and I guess then they can see if they made the right call or not.
BoBo Saxton: Huh, they sure can. So that’s that. Do we have to finish this game, can’t we just head out for pie and mash? But regardless of that, it’s been quite the adventure following your progress through the first DSFL season. I know all the people at home are rooting for you and they can’t wait to see you back in action for the Royals and then, at some point, for the Outlaws. So people at home, I’ll be bringing you more from L’Gazzy when I have it, no doubt about that. Now all that’s left for me to say is thank you, good night, BoBo out.
