Hello all,
Now that we have a full season done with and we know where all these players ended up for the ISFL, let's see how the Tijuana Luchadores did in their draft.
I know everyone gets drafted in these, and a lot of us joined right before the actual draft happened. So some of us went really late, but had they had another week to judge us, we would have most likely moved up a bit.
The list of guys drafted in order first:
1-4 NationalSimulation FootballLeague S
2-4 Rich Triplet CB
3-4 Bronko Mills RB
4-4 Tex Wrecks DE
5-4 Terry Tate LB
6-4 Vance Slattery DT
8-4 Owen Isaac DE
8-6 Adam Melliott OL
9-4 Jack Burton K
10-6 Mark Walker WR
11-4 Owen Holloway QB
11-6 Duncan Donuts OL
12-4 Mason Gillion CB
13-4 Kentdavion Davis OL
13-6 Abdul-Jabbar Abid DE
14-4 Daniel Bateman LB
15-4 Scott Mastro WR
16-4 Jake Woodhead TE
17-4 Breezy Wallace CB
18-4 Colt Reinhorn TE
So that is the full draft list for the Luchadores. I am not going to talk about the players who were inactive from the beginning as that is clearly a waste of time.
But I do want to show where they all were drafted before moving on to individual players and their value at that their drafted position. I left off Owen Holloway, because while we drafted him, he was traded away and he was not drafted from our team, nor did he even keep his position. So not really a part of what we did.
S25 ISFL draft location:
1-3 Tex Wrecks
1-14 Rich Triplet
2-19 Adam Mellott
2-22 Vance Slattery
3-29 NationalSimulation FootballLeague
3-40 Bronko Mills
4-43 Mark Walker
4-48 Ben Alexander-Arnold
4-54 Timmy Dimbi
5-62 Mason Gillion
6-76 Owen Isaac
8-111 Jack Burton
So we started with twenty draft picks in the DSFL draft and down to twelve that remained alive and active for the ISFL draft. Lost eight guys total, but a couple of those were already inactive before the draft even happened, so honestly not as bad as it sounds.
First Pick of the DSFL Draft : NationalSimulation FootballLeague
No real surprise with their pick here as defensive backs seem to be a highly sought after commodity in these drafts. He was the second safety off the board in the DSFL draft at the fourth OA spot. Was a big part of the secondary that player very well last season. He dropped a bit for the ISFL draft and went in the third round at pick twenty nine OA. My best guess as to why he dropped would be he is not a top earner at his position as there are multiple guys with more TPE as of the last update. That being said he is still a good earner and not far off most of the other safeties in earning. This was a good pick by the Luchadores, as he produced very well on the field and looks to spend at least one more season in the DSFL as a capped Safety.
Overall Grade : B+
Second Pick of the DSFL Draft : Rich Triplet
Yep, they did back to back picks for the secondary, and yes it seemed to have paid off based on how well these guys did last season and they are both quite active. He was the fourth corner back off the board in the DSFL draft at the twelve OA pick and was the fourteenth OA pick in the ISFL draft in the first round. Between his on the field actions and his off the field presence, this was an absolute home run of a pick. He is a team captain and all around good guy in the locker room. He is one of the higher TPE corners in his class and a super high earner in general. He is poised to have another strong season as a capped corner in the DSFL. I want to mention this user also has been doing some sim testing on the side to try and better himself and the team.
Overall Grade : A (would like to give him an A+, but he was drafted as their second player, so he performed at a high level for a high pick)
Third Pick of the DSFL Draft : Bronko Mills
With their third pick of the draft they changed sides and went for an offensive skill position player. A running back to pair with their star back from a season ago, he was quickly a beast on the field. They managed to both be top tier running backs on the same team. He went at the twentieth OA spot in the DSFL and was drafted at the fortieth spot OA in the ISFL draft. Hard to say he slipped as their are fourteen teams in the ISFL versus the eight in the DSFL. He managed to go in the third round in both drafts. His biggest issue appears to be his earning of the TPE, he is on the low end of the spectrum. But a great on the field talent and if he steps up his earning, could easily become a good player in the ISFL.
Overall Grade : C+
Fourth Pick of the DSFL Draft : Tex Wrecks
Back to the defensive side of the ball, but up front. He was drafted in the fourth round of the DSFL, but moved all the way to the number three OA draft pick of the ISFL. Combining his on the field play and his off the field talks about tacos. He was the top earner for most of, if not all, our rookie DSFL season. He is currently, as of the last update, the second highest TPE player out of the entire draft class. On top of that he is a great guy to have in the locker room and a good addition to any locker room. Tijuana definitely got a steal at the fourth round of this draft. He has already been called up to the big leagues and will join the Liberty for his rookie season and his first year being able to get the call.
Overall Grade : A+
Fifth Pick of the DSFL Draft : Terry Tate
Another great pickup on the defensive side of the ball, I am sensing a theme with teams in the game. Terry was drafted in the fifth round of the DSFL. I am only mentioning him here, bc he appeared to be a top prospect for the ISFL, until he vanished and never made it back. He was a high earner during his time, he almost capped out before he went IA in his first season.
Overall Grade : D+ (He was a top performer on the field)
Sixth Pick of the DSFL Draft : Vance Slattery (Doy Fieri - new name)
Yep, you guessed it, another defensive player drafted. So far, one offensive player and all the rest have been on the other side of the ball. Another great pick up by the Luchadores. Not the highest earner, but a max earner after he got going. Super active, I know he brews beer at home, another overall great guy to have around in the locker room. He was taken in the sixth round for the DSFL draft and moved up to the second round being taken at twenty second OA. Looks like another steal for the Luchas! He gets to spend at least one more season killing rookies and vets alike in the DSFL. Another of that killer defense the Luchas get to bring back for another go at the Ultimini.
Overall Grade : A+
Eighth Pick of the DSFL Draft : Owen Isaac
Yet another defensive player to the Luchadores. He was taken in the eight round in the DSFL and moved up to the sixth round for the ISFL. I don't have a lot to say about him, he is a low earner with under 200 TPE as of the last update. It does show he has visited the site, so maybe he only does the bare minimum for TPE. Either way he will be staying down in the DSFL for a couple of seasons I imagine.
Overall Grade : C-
Ninth Pick of the DSFL Draft : Adam Mellott
Our first offensive line picked in the draft! He was also drafted in the eighth round of the DSFL and moved all the way up to the second round and the nineteenth OA pick of the ISFL. Another guy taken late in the draft who turned out super active and a really great user. He was selected as a team captain by the Lucha locker room. He was one of the top offensive linemen for his rookie season in the DSFL. He is a top tier max earner, he is involved with his team and did some recruiting work. He gets at least one more season to stay down in the DSFL and go for that title. He will be a foundation at the next level once he gets the call.
Overall Grade : A+
Tenth Pick the DSFL Draft : Jack Burton
Just wanted to put this guy on here to show he was drafted before the next guy.
Overall Grade : F
Eleventh Pick of the DSFL Draft : Mark Walker
This was the first wide receiver drafted by the Luchadoes, granted they already had two top tier wideouts on their roster. But, they knew they were losing those guys soon if not right away, so they figured take a late round flier on this guy. He was drafted in the tenth round of the DSFL draft and moved all the way up to the first pick of the fourth round in the ISFL draft. For a rookie behind two max guys, he had a pretty good rookie season as the third option in the passing attack. He was figuring on a couple seasons as the lead wrestler here, but due to expansion got the call up right away. So he now has to watch his fellow Luchas from afar and root for them. User is pretty active in the media area, writing various comparison articles and draft recaps and grades. He is also pretty active on discord, at least in his team's locker rooms, not so much in all the others.
Overall Grade : A (remains to be seen if he can move up to the A+ or even better the S class draftee)
Thirteenth Pick of the DSFL Draft : Mason Gillion
Back to the defensive secondary for the Luchas, man they loved picking them defensive boys. A really good player for the Luchas last season and he looks to continue on with his play as he stays down for at least one more season(prolly more). He is a lower tier earner, having not maxed out his DSFL build yet, but still in the realm of getting there this season. He was drafted in the twelfth round for the DSFL and move up to the fifth round for the ISFL. Overall a good player, just needs a bump in activity.
Overall Grade : C+ (was a super late round pick, so pretty good, just needs more TPE)
That covers the guys drafted by the Luchadores. There are two more guys I did not cover, as they were waiver pickups, I will go ahead and talk about them, but they are harder to grade as they did not require picking them over other potential people.
First Waiver Pick Up : Ben Alexander-Arnold
Another defensive back some how picked up by the Luchadores. He was a part of that secondary that lit up opposing teams game after game. His biggest issue is he is a little low on TPE, but the tracker thinks he is still active, so hopefully he continues to play and earn. Over all a really good pick up for this team.
Overall Grade : B
Second Waiver Pick Up : Timmy Dimbi
Another defensive guy picked up on waivers. A good late addition to the team. He is friends with somebody on the team I think. He has low TPE, but he was a late joiner and missed out on some of the special opportunities that others had. If he can stay active, he should be a really good add to this team and I expect him to stay down in the DSFL at least two seasons.
Overall Grade : B-
There is the list of guys who managed to stay active throughout season twenty five. It seems like a really good group of active people who plan to stay around for awhile, I know a few of us have already started thinking about our next players we will create after retirement. I do have to give some credit to Mith and Swanky for creating and maintaining the culture of that locker room and helping us feel like a part of the team and want to stay around long term.
With their picks, the Luchas took ten defensive players, with six of their first seven picks being on the defensive side of the ball. They clearly felt a need on that side of the ball, which, after seeing their roster it makes sense. They had a quarter back, two max receivers and a good running back already on their roster before this draft. They went after the areas they saw the greatest need and that was on stopping opposing teams.
The Luchas look to address some of their needs for next season tonight in the S26 draft. The glaring holes that I see are line backers, wide receivers and a tight end. But of course, I do believe they will take the best fit at each draft pick. Sometimes you draft the player that falls to you instead of chasing that grand slam of a pick.
Anyways, in a couple seasons I will redo this but for the entire season twenty five draft class. I did not have the time or the ability to do that right now. My current goal is to revisit this after this coming season is over and we have seen the call up list for the next seasons ISFL. I can say I am proud to be a part of the best draft class I have ever been a part of (also my one and only one). And yes I know TPE is not the main way to judge someone, nor does it mean their player will sim well. The sim is a bad bad man after all. But, it does seem that TPE does effect how long you can have a career on a particular player, and of course my goal, and so I assume every one else's goal, is to play this character as long as I can to amass stats and titles. So while I know certain positions can be effective at low TPE, once regression hits, at a low TPE you lose out much quicker. I have not done the math om any of this though. I am also a long long way from any sort of regression as I am about to enter my first ISFL season.
Now that we have a full season done with and we know where all these players ended up for the ISFL, let's see how the Tijuana Luchadores did in their draft.
