I’m currently very busy playing Ultimate Football GM, so I’ll try and write this article as quick as possible, because I am on a 8 season playoff streak, and we just won the Finals again. Go Phoenix!
I’ll be using the same RNG method as promised from before, and hopefully we can get lucky and get a good game like last time. So my first number is 23. Season 23 it is. There are 3 rounds of playoffs + 16 regular season weeks, so we’ll roll between 1 and 19. Week 9 it is. There were 6 games played, so we’ll roll a dice, and we get 1.
The Outlaws are coming to Philly in a battle of playoff hopefuls. Philly will try and defend their home turf from the aerial attack of Jay Cue. Let’s not waste any more time.
The opening drive comes down to 3rd and 3 for the Outlaws, but Baby Yoda converts. 3 straight Cue passes all go incomplete and it doesn’t get them anywhere, so they punt on 4th and 10. The Liberty go on a nice drive with 2 3rd and short completions, powered by their run game, but a sack by Hughes sets them back too far and they have to punt on 4th and 5. Just in time too, as the sack took them out of FG range. The Outlaws go 3 and out and folks, this is why special teams is important. A 30 yard punt is returned for 19 yards, and Philly starts in FG range essentially. Torenson carries the offense on this drive, rushing for 4 yards on 3rd and 4 and catching a TD on a wheel route. The Liberty score the first TD of the game, going up 7-0. Baby Yoda fumbles the ball on the next drive, but it’s recovered by the offense. Cue gets sacked on the next play and they’re forced to punt. Phoenix gets sacked on the next drive, and Varga can only get 9 yards on 3rd and 13 and they punt back to Arizona with the 1st quarter coming to a close. But in less than 30 seconds Arizona manages to punt right back to Philly. Philly punts back even faster, in 23 seconds. A terrible punt and great return sets up Arizona with amazing field position, and a 3rd and 2 run by Yoda helps keep the offense moving. Cue scrambles for 17 yards to finish the drive off with a TD. The score is tied at 7-7 with 11 and a half minutes to go. On Philly’s next drive, Torenson drops a wide open screen pass and that kills the drive, as they punt back to Arizona. Arizona decides to go on the longest drive I’ve ever seen. Including a clutch 35 yard pass on 3rd and 21. 3 straight runs stalls the drive out at the Philly 2 yard line. The 88 yard drive took up over 8 minutes in time and ended in a FG. Philly tries to get a drive in before the half, but a promising start is dashed by back to back drops, and it gets even worse, because their punt gets blocked with under a minute left in the half. They get to the Philly 38 yard line but instead of kicking a FG they try a 4th down conversion but fail and turnover the ball as the half ends.
Philly starts their 2nd half with a 3 and out on the opening drive, but Arizona doesn’t waste the precious possession that was given to them. A drive with 5 first downs, it was very methodical, and only 2 plays less than 2 yards on the drive. There was 7 plays of 5+ yards en route to a TD, putting them up 17-7. A 39 yard return + a penalty basically sets up Liberty in Arizona territory. They can’t get a single first down but they kick a field goal still, making the score 17-10 with 5 and a half minutes left in the game. Back to back penalties on the Outlaws made it a 3rd and 35. Cue managed to find Bur’Berry for 27 yards but it wasn’t enough and they punt back. Philly brought the big plays to the table, and after a big sack, Torenson rips open a huge run for 38 yards. Then Phoenix launches a 32 yard dime to Varga, but a sack stops the drive the drive in its tracks and they have to kick a FG. The score is 17-13, Arizona leading with half a minute to go in the 3rd. Cue starts off hot, going 3/3 for 46 yards, but then goes 0/3 and they kick a FG, going up 20-13 to start the fourth quarter off. A nice return by Panda is useless as Wilf comes in with the sack, stopping the drive and forcing a punt. On the return, Scarlett manages to shed a couple blockers and returns it 89 yards, but gets pushed out of bounds at the 1. Baby Yoda punches uses the force to make the ball cross the plane, and Arizona goes up 27-13. Liberty knows they need something as there’s only 12 minutes left to play, and they are down 2 scores. A good kick return along with a big run and pass sets up Liberty at the ARI 37. A 6 yard rush by Dotson helps them convert on 3rd and 2. A 4 yard rush brings Philly to the Arizona 19 yard line. A screen pass gets read by Scarlett and picked off, and returned for 0 yards. Arizona goes 3 and out and has to punt, unfortunately not being able to chew up any more clock. But it’s a terrible punt and a great return, setting up Liberty at the Arizona 39 yard line. Arizona’s defense holds strong, not allowing a single pass to be completed as Philly goes 4 and out, and Cue chucks a 51 yard bomb on the next drive, allowing Arizona to score a TD easily from there and going up 3 TDs, 34-13 with 3 minutes left. The Liberty would go on a long drive with 1 4th down conversion, but they’re unable to convert the 2nd one, and that’s game folks.
Arizona wins 34-13 in the upset road win. That will surely hurt Philly’s playoff hopes.
