DSFL Week 1 Recap:
The DSFL got off to a great start this past sim with Week 1 on the agenda. Week 1’s matchups include the Pythons heading to Tijuana to square off against the Luchadores, The Buccaneers against the Seawolves, Kansas City Coyotes hosting the Dallas Birddogs and lastly the Gray Ducks at home against the Royals.
Pythons – 9
Luchadores – 10
This one was a well fought defensive battle all the way to the last minute when the Luchadores were able to get a game winning field goal by Jean-Jaques Leroy with 1:13 seconds left in the game. Jean-Jaques Leroy missed three field goals prior to booting through the game winner. This was a classic old school grind it out game. The Pythons were able to build a 9-point lead by half-time, but the 2nd half seen Tijuana rattle off 10 unanswered points to come back from behind and beat Portland. ReallyInvisible had a game to forget, as it wasn’t his typical game. We don’t usually only see 7 rushing attempts for only 15 yards from this speedster of a QB. He also couldn’t pass for a touchdown; however, the Pythons defense were able to find him for a sack and forcing him to throw two interceptions. Rookie Mircle Whip tooted the rock 14 times for 54 yards, a mere 3.9-yard average. While CDCs Burner also a rookie, carried the ball 6 times for 25 yards, and scoring his first career touchdown early in the second half. Gronko Muerto had himself a day hauling in 7 passes for 97 yards, with a long of 32. Rookie Rainbow Atchinson also had a solid career debut as he was able to secure 6 of the 19 passes, he seen come his way, for 84 yards. Fellow rookies Jason Waterfalls and Rex Crenshaw caught 5 and 2 passes for 49 yards and 18 yards respectfully. Defensively, the Luchadores got sacks from Gyles Marrett and Cornerback Industries. Marrett also had 4 tackles. They also were able to get 2 passes deflected from Sir Pierre Jackson and 1 a piece from Rean Schwarzer and Southof Theborder. Schwarzer also had 5 tackles. That pretty much covers all the highlights from Tijuana in their week one week over the Pythons.
The Pythons QB Panda McKyle was not exactly accurate in his first game this season. He was only able to complete 40.7 % of his passes for 139 yards. He was put on his back by the defense for two sacks. The ground game was unimpressive as well as they rushed 28 times for 70 yards as a team. Rookie Jax Baxter was able to score his first career touchdown as well! Congrats Rookie. The passing game seen Rookie Calvin Hobbs catch 6 of his 12 targets for 89 yards. Feellow Rookies Tay Swizzle and Cas Roseboom caught 2 and 1 passes for 10 and 22 yards respectfully. The defense seen a sack from Logan Anderson who also had 9 tackles on the day. Also recording 9 tackles were Teddy Murphy and Rookie Don’t Draft, who was also able to snag his first career interception and deflected pass. Suggs Upshar had 4 tackles and 2 passes deflected (Pd) and Rookie The Laz had 4 tackles and FIVE PD’s including his first career interception. Huge debut for the rookie! Lip Gallagher recorded 4 Tackles as well.
And there you have it by the time the final buzzer went off in this game it was a 10-9 Home victory for the Luchadores from Tijuana.
Buccaneers – 21
Seawolves – 41
The Seawolves flexed their muscles this week scoring 34 of their 41 points in the first half of their week 1 victory over the Buccaneers. 3rd year DSFL QB Raeni Clarke got the scoring started early with a 26-yard touchdown toss to Rookie Nick L. Back who had a productive 4-Rec 62-yd 1-TD debut. Six minutes later Sigo Hendricks scored on a 13-yard run. Part of a 27-carry 114-yard 1-touchdown day. The second quarter kicked off with a Zack DiNozzo 7-yard touchdown catch from Raeni Clarke. The second year DSFL WR finished the day hauling in all 5 of his targets for 45 yards and a TD. The next two scores seen QB Raeni Clarke score on rushes from 19 yards and 48-yards. Raeni had a brilliant season debut going 17-22 for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns and a near perfect 148.7 Rating, he also ran the ball 5 times for 84-yards and two more scores. The first half ended on an explosive 49-yard touchdown reception by Rookie Squidward Tentacles for the Buccaneers making it 34-7 Seawolves at half time. The third quarter started off with a 10-yard JJ Slasher touchdown from QB Raeni Clarke. Rookie JJ Slasher caught all 4 of his targets for 72 yards and that touchdown for another masterful career debut in week 1. The fourth quarter had two garbage time touchdown passes from third yard Bondi Beach QB Dexter Zaylren to Allofus AreDespacito from 2-yards out and another explosive 69-yard touchdown pass to non-other than Squidward Tentacles. Squidward finished the day with 4 receptions on 12 targets for 143-yards and 2-TD’s. Zarylen’s line score was 17-35 for a game high 269-yards 3-TD’s and 2 interceptions. Finishing the gams scoring at 41-21 All Seawolves. Other players of note would be IThink HeTampered who had 3-REC on 6-targets for 53-yards, Rookie RB Tron Carter had 14-rushes for 68-YDS while Rookie RB Bill Cherry rushes twice for 21-yards. Kelvin Harris had 9 tackles and CB Kyouma had 5 passes deflected. That completes this recap of the Seawolves dominating win over Bondi Beach 41-21
Birddogs – 22
Coyotes – 28 OT
This game was only the 2nd game this week that was close. This game is the first game of the season to run into Overtime. With 1:28 left in the game Rookie WR Cliff Burton caught his 2nd 13-yard TD pass from fellow rookie Ricky Stanzi. Following the converted two-point conversion we had a tied game and went into overtime where the Coyotes scored first to put an end to this one. 22-28. Ricky Stanzi had a great showing, as he tried to keep with 3rd year QB Gimmy Jaroppolo Jr. They almost pulled out the upset victory for Dallas, but Kansas City was able to keep their composure and sneak away with the home victory. The Dallas Birddogs started the scoring early in the first quarter when DSFL Rookie QB Ricky Stanzi found Rookie WR Cliff Burton for a 13-yard score. Less than four minutes later the Coyotes were scoring on a 46-yard pass and catch TD from Jaroppolo to 3rd-year WR Troy Abed to tie this game up. A few minutes later with under a minute left in the 1st -quarter Rookie RB Jimmy Nardello took a 17-yard pass to the HIZZY for another TD! Pushing the Birddogs back on top 14-7. Early in the 2nd Quarter the Coyotes got a field goal by Izuku Campbell, and as the half was nearing a close, they also got a 3-yard TD scamper by 2nd-year RB Rejoignez LordreSombre. Making this a 17-14 Coyote lead as they headed into the intermission. No one was able to put up any points in the third quarter, but then in the 4th quarter with 6:35 left in the game Jimmy Nardello was tackled for a loss in the Birddogs own endzone for a safety! This pushed the lead up to 19-14. Then less than 4 minutes later the Coyotes are booting a 39-yard field goal by Campbell to push their lead to 22-14 as they scored 15 unanswered points from the 2nd to the 4th quarters. This gives the Birddogs the Ball with under 3 minutes to go and down 8. Ricky Stanzi showed his poise by driving the Birddogs all the way down the field in under 2 minutes and as I mentioned before, they scored on a 13-yard pass to Burton. The Coyotes would then need nearly the entire extra stanza to finally score a TD by Fitted Cuddles on a 1-yd punch in to win the ball game 28-22. Now to some stats, the Birddogs might want to thank the football Gods for still being in this game as they fumbled 4 times but did not lose one! Gimmy Jaroppolo had a solid game going 24-32 for 273-YDS 1-TD and 0-INT. The time share in the backfield was almost a perfect 50/50 as LordreSombre had 21-carries for 88-YDS and a TD. Cuddles had 20-rushes for 49-YDS and the game winning TD. Rookie Andy Fantuz had a solid game hauling in 9 of 10 targets for 79-YDS. Abed was able to catch 6 of 9 targets for 118-YDS and a TD. Finally, Rookie Dee Walk was able to bring in 3 of his 6 targets for 18-yards. On the Dallas side we watched Ricky Stanzi go 19 for 34 for 255-yards 3-TDs and 0-INTS. Kid couldn’t ask for a better debut, unless of course they could have pulled out the victory. Nardello carried the rock 16 times for 53-yards and caught 2 passes for 32-yards and a TD. Erik Gaare had 12-carries for 65-yards on the ground. The pass catchers seen Burton catch 6 of 8 targets for 60-yards and 2-TDs, while Team Captain 2nd year Tight End Joey Marston was able to bring in 5 of his 8 targets for 47-yards. Ivan Toastovich was able to make 5-receptions on 10-targets for 114-yards. Big day for Ivan. That will wrap this one up as we only have 1 game left to cover.
Royals – 10
Grey Ducks – 31
This one is going to be tough to get through. The Royals, who had a lot of self-imposed hype could not wait to get started on a potential shot at back-to-back ships. They were coming into the game amped up but wound up falling flat on their faces. The Grey Ducks had this game from the very beginning and never looked back. The Grey Ducks got the ball first, and quickly were able to put up a Field Goal by rookie Levy Tate to make it 3-0. Then 10 minutes later with 2:44 left in the first quarter team captain RB John Huntsman rocked a 35-yard run all the way to the house. After the extra point 10-0 Grey Ducks. The Royals tried to claw back with 1:30 left in the first in just over a minute Rookie QB Dustin Parmelee was able to find fellow Rookie Bradley Welch for a 41-yard score to bring this game closer to 10-7. These two showed a lot of chemistry out there on the field today, but the Royals undoing would be penalties as they committed 12 of them for 110-yards. Early I the 2nd quarter Janix Lux hauled in an 8-yard TD pass from Kazimir Oles Jr. pushing the lead to 17-7. Then the Ducks scored one more time before half on a 2-yard smash up the middle by Huntsman for another TD. Half time, this game was 24-7. No one scored again until there were 35 ticks left in the 3RD when the Royals took a break from their 3-and out parties and finally put a drive together. Allowing K Rainbow Dash to boot a 47-yard FG to make this a 14-point game, 24-10. Not an impossible task to overcome, but on this day, it would be exactly that for the Royals. The nail in the coffin came with 7:07 left in the game. The Royals feeling the desperation and trying to rally the troops would witness the firsts big error of Parms career. After trying to avoid the pass rush, Dustin would roll out left then back to the right and launched an wobbling dead duck of a pass that would land in he hands of Ducks CB Amy Wong, and she was not done from there. She scampered all the way to the endzone for a 53-yard interception return. That iced the game for the Royals, as the Ducks would be your victors with the final score 31-10. Now to everyone’s favorite part the stats. Oles Jr completed 17 of 21 passes for 180-yards and 1-TD. Huntsman is the work horse back for this Ducks team seeing him run the ball 32 times for a monstrous 172-yards and 2-TDs. As for the pass-catchers, Lux caught 5 of 6 targets for 59-yards and a TD. Third year player Joe Bay caught 4 of 6 targets for 56-yards. Rookie QB converted to WR Mason Malone caught 4 of 5 targets for 46-yards. O’leary, Bane and defensive captain Frank all had sacks on the day for Minnesota. Now over to London. It was a quiet day defensively, but defensive Captain Lucid Dreams was able to get the lone Royals sack. QB Dustin Parmelee completed 21-33 passes for 214-yards while throwing 1-TD and 1-INT. Rookie RB Kiara Tenoh had a particularly good game totting the rock 15 times for 83-yards. Back up RB Rookie Electric Squirrel had 11-carries for 16-yards. The wide outs seen Buffalo Hunter haul in 6 of 10 targets for 59 yards. Rookie Brent Suzuki caught 6 of 7 targets for 31 yards. Rookie Bradley Welch caught 5 of 8 targets for 94-yards and the lone TD. Big game for Welch, as the Royals need to get on his level and on the same page, if they want to see success on the gridiron anytime soon.
