Trey Willie doesn’t see this trip to the S3 Prospect games as a novelty. The Orange County wide receiver figured a rookie should never stop learning, even when on display for future team prospects.
So, Willie mined his fellow stars for any vein of information during the week leading up to this week’s games. He got solid strategy advice from the ASFC’s leading receiver, Robert Phelps, while Coach Roshambo spoke with him about resilience. Every player and coached he reached out to reminded Willie that it’s important for the rookies to take it seriously and perform their best.
“It’s going to be great. I am excited to see where I am drafted, but it’s going to be a great time,” said Willie, who is hoping to fill the WR1 position in this league’s 2nd annual Prospect games. “I’ve learned something every day. I am in the locker room daily with arguably the best wide receiver group in the league. I’m just looking forward to playing in the game and having one more great experience to finish the year.”
Even with standouts at every position around him, Willie still hopes to attract attention of team scouts with his ever-improving physical abilities, particularly among scouts who still hasn’t seen him in person.
“We hassle him a little bit because he’s a rookie, but he seems really mature,” Orange County wide receiver Bradley Westfield said. “You have to be mature at that position. He’s already headed toward a great career. Hopefully Marc or Micah can teach him a little something extra to take with him into next season.”
“I’m just hoping he lands on my team,” Mongeese GM Marc Spector said. “He’s elite as far as rookies go, and he’s active. He’s got all kinds of skills.”
Willie got this opportunity through a little luck, since the S2 Prospect games wasn’t originally scheduled to occur. It wasn’t until a last-minute decision by the commissioner, that these games were even placed on the schedule.
Willie should see plenty of playing time as he is the TPE leader on the offensive side of the ball and has already had a measure of success in the NSFL.
