With the Ultimus now over, and draft night soon to be upon us, the ISFL teams are out in full force doing their due diligence and getting their last bits of scouting done. As part of my conversation with the Sarasota Sailfish, I got asked if I wanted to join the locker room. I said sure, joined in, immediately made a 'deez nuts' joke and then jokingly said I wanted to be scouted again.
@g2019 posted a question that actually sounded relatively interesting to answer on paper. He asked, 'Write a 5 paragraph essay as to why the Sarasota Sailfish should draft you as a prospect.' Initially I laughed it off. However, I am not one to turn away an easy way to make money, so here is my essay on why Sarasota should consider Ginand Toxic in the upcoming S40 ISFL Draft.
First thing, let's dive into the raw numbers and the objective before getting into myself as a user. Sarasota has a relatively robust defensive line, with a pair of DEs at 1041 and 670 TPE, respectively. However, their 670 TPE defensive end, Mrs. "Stacks" McHits, is not long for this world. With her last update being in early January and regression about to take away a further 167 TPE, it'd be prudent for Sarasota to look for a replacement from this draft class. With my current rate of earning being near the top of the class (despite the late start due to recreating after the trade deadline), I'll be able to slot into that starting role by the start of S42, hopefully without any drop in the overall performance of the defense. Sarasota also just needs to get younger on the defensive side of the ball in general. With only 5 players out of 12 on that side of the ball not hitting regression this upcoming season, they need someone that can be the next great defense anchor down in Florida. Great defensive linemen can be relatively hard to come by, yet here I am, ready and willing to be that defensive anchor.
Looking at the rest of the draft class, there are only a handful of defensive ends better than myself, TPE wise. You have Alex Armstrong, who will likely be one of the first players taken, and Iosefa Fuamatu-Ma’afala, who with my brief scouting seems to be an amazing user who will also be gone quite early in the draft. That leaves Ginand Toxic, a defensive end who will likely be available later at a discount. While I may be behind in terms of earnings overall, my actual earning rates are in-line with the best of the class, only missing a pair of weekly predictions and a point task. Even if we assume worst case scenario and say I earned a perfect 11 TPE from those tasks combined, I'd likely be the 10th or 11th highest earner in the class. Of course, that assumes everyone earns at their current rate from here until retirement, which is never the case. There is always some hemorrhaging of users, no matter how good the class. And that segues nicely into talking about myself as a user.
As a user, I came into this league all the way back in Season 18, the second ever NFL subreddit class and back when we were known as the NSFL. S18 was a huge class at the time and it's effects are still being felt, with key league figures like Laser and so many others getting their start here. I myself have made a small but somewhat noticeable impact on the league, mainly through my three seasons as Minnesota's GM from S21 to S23. While I didn't spend too much time there, we did draft several notable users, including two current members of HO (DarknessRising and SnowyWolfz) as well as current Chicago GM TheCC, San Jose GM RussDrivesTheBus and New Orleans GM Somesay, all of whom I am immensely proud of. I was a war room member in Yellowknife for a good while, and was the main reason we brought Darkness into the team despite being completely loaded at the position. The only black mark on my record was a spat in S24, where I lashed out at several people in the Management server in a way that is massively unacceptable. However, I served my justified punishment, and I like to think I've been a positive influence on the league ever since. During my time in Berlin, I ended up joining the PBE, and had a somewhat decent career over there before eventually bowing out after being a casualty in PBE's decision to cut the cap down aggressively, meaning New York couldn't afford to keep me around. With my career in the PBE over, it means I can put all of my focus into the ISFL once again. As a player, I have had an overwhelming amount of individual success. Mathias Hanyadi was one of the best running backs during the last era of DDSPF16. He was one of only three(?) running backs to win MVP straight up in the DDSPF16 era (cannot remember if Nakamura won before or after the switch, someone please correct me on that), was on the 25th Anniversary 2nd Team, and eventually ended up in the Hall of Fame. With Jacob Raske, I ended up switching from quarterback to free safety. It ended up being a good move, with Raske winning defensive player of the year in S33 near the tail end of his time in the spotlight. This time around, similar to my time with Raske, I am prepared to spend my entire career with one team. I'm done with stat chasing, especially after it failed miserably during my last few seasons with Hanyadi (no shade to Baltimore and Arizona, yall were both awesome teams, I just had my priorities in the wrong place at the time). And this time, I have no PBE to fall back on if I get bored with the ISFL. I am going full ride or die, no going inactive only a few seasons into my career. I plan to ride Toxic as far into the ground as I can.
Why Sarasota? Well, I had a pretty pleasant conversation with current GM @Fronk, which I'd call short, sweet and to the point. People around the league know me pretty well at this point, they know what I can bring to a team, so scouting conversations don't have to be this long drawn out affair, though I don't mind such conversations either. From my brief conversation and knowledge of the league, I know Sarasota do an awful lot of winning. They're consistent at the top of the conference, always looking to win and never looking to rebuild. A philosophy like that requires so much coordination behind the scenes as well as savvy draft picks and free agent acquisitions. Clearly, Sarasota is doing something right, and that to me is intriguing. If the locker room culture is as good, which I have very little doubts about, I'd be very happy to head down to Florida in the big leagues.
Sarasota should look to draft Ginand Toxic if they want a long-time active user, a user who has already been a GM and has been a long time War Room member in the past, someone who has had a lot of success at both levels of the ISFL. I am more than prepared to max earn, to join the war room and help scout or give other suggestions. They have a winning culture which I'd be very happy to contribute to, and the best part? I'd get plenty of chances to make fun of Frost every single day.
Well, there it is. This will look pretty silly if I don't end up being drafted by Sarasota, but I think I made a solid case. And like I said at the beginning, I'm never one to turn down relatively easy money. Thanks again to @g2019 for the idea, and I hope everyone who's read this far has a great day.
