Only a few months since the late season birth of the Winchesters' first 18lb child Hank, Emily Winchester has given birth to a second child. At only 4 months old doctors were expecting such a premature child to be deathly ill and of tiny weight. However they were stumped when Emily gave birth to a fully-formed and healthy 7lb baby girl, who they have since named Gemma. The doctors and scientists in Orange County have run a multitude of tests on Gemma to try and determine how she was able to develop so quickly.
The first thought was the children suffered from some sort of gigantism. This is normally caused by a defect with the pituitary gland causing an overproduction of growth hormone. Famous cases of gigantism have existed for some time, with people like Andre the Giant. However, left untreated it can cause long term cardiovascular complications and often results in a shortened lifespan. But after an analysis of the pituitary glands and the levels of growth hormone in their blood scientists concluded that the Winchester children were not suffering from a case of gigantism, and were completely healthy.
They have since concluded that the only possible explanation for the extreme growth and development of both Hank, who went through a full 9 month gestation and came out at 18.5lbs, and Gemma who after only 4 months weighed a healthy 7lbs, is that it has something to do with Angus Winchester's DNA. Doctors and scientists are speculating that Winchester's gametes (sperm) are so potent that they reduce the normal gestation time of a human child inside of a female to a little less than half the normal amount of time. This is the only way they have been able to explain the absurd rate of growth and size of the Winchester children.
The lead scientist on the project, Dr. Hohenberger, described the condition as, "Angus Winchester's DNA and sperm are like natural steroids. They cause unprecedented growth rates the likes of which modern science has never seen. Although they have no disorders or deformities in their pituitary or thyroid glands, and normal levels of hormones in their body, it still grows at over twice the normal rate. It is like everything about them is more potent."
We caught up with Angus Winchester as he was leaving offseason training at their Orange County facility.
Reporter Dude: Angus, how does it feel to be the father of your second child only months after the first one was born?
Winchester: I love it. I've always wanted a big family and I'm very excited to see it grow even further with our baby girl.
Reporter Dude: How has the medical mystery of the Winchester children affected day-to-day life as a parent?
Winchester: It hasn't changed anything really. They're our little miracles in more ways than just scientifically. I don't mind taking them in for tests to make sure that they're healthy, I want them to have the best possible life.
Reporter Dude: Knowing what you know now, do you plan on having more children in the future? What sort of precautions will you take?
Winchester: Of course, we plan to still have a big family, it's something Emily and I have always wanted. We're still going to have more kids, but we'll have to work carefully with the doctors to make sure that their growth is monitored and that we prepare to induce labor early if necessary to ensure both Emily and the children are safe.
Reported Dude: Thank you for your time. Enjoy the growing family.
Winchester: It was a pleasure, thank you.
