For the last ten seasons Bondi Beach have been playing on the same surface at Emu Memorial Stadium, and as the team are working to petition the City of Sydney to provide them with an updated stadium in the future, management have commissioned the field itself to be redesigned.
While the Buccaneers have been working hard on a stretch of road games, the field crew at the 'Mew' (as it's affectionately known by locals) have spent the weeks resurfacing and repainting the field, with the goal of having it ready for the team's next home game.
The Buccaneers Team President Heath Evans had this to say:
"Bondi Beach have brought this city two Ultiminis in the last four seasons, and despite their current record the team is deserving of something to celebrate. We hope that the new field will bring our stadium into the modern era, and will encourage the City of Sydney to continue plans to renovate the stadium. This field has been designed with advice and consideration from both team management and external designers to provide the city and team something to play on that they can truly be proud of. We hope that everyone enjoys the new surface, and that it shows the Buccaneers are keen to continue their legacy into the future!"
We also have a statement provided by Bondi Beach's General Managers:
"Our current record might not represent the determination and heart of Bondi Beach's players, but we're hoping this change of scenery will. A field that shows an abundance of pride for our team, our culture, and our fans. We're so excited for our current team to be the trailblazers and history-makers by being the first ones to play some good old-fashioned football on this turf. Bucc up!"
The new field will be in place for the Week 7 game Bondi will play against Minnesota, we hope to see you all there.
