Last season and this season have been interesting for Brandon and the copperheads. Brandon was super pumped going into last season with how good the team looked on paper. The were first overall in TPE and were ranked in the top 4 offensively and defensively. He had a great season 40 and knew he was only getting better. He had really grown to like the tackle position and embraced knowing he was one of the top tackle in the league. He had 93 pancakes and allowed only 3 sacks and Austin had gone 10-6 in season 40 so season 41 had to be another step forward, right?…ha wrong. Stay tuned for more!
Week 1: rivalry with the outlaws
The copperheads and outlaws always have quite the battles with meeting twice each season. Usually splitting the series 1-1 with the home team winning, but outlaws probably own the overall record. This one was a pretty even matchup with each team having 1 turnover, no one had a crazy game offensively. Poor queen was sacked 5 times which doesn’t help the offense. Arizona was up 14-12 at half. Charlie Brown had all the points for the copperheads who were struggling to find the end zone but Arizona had found it twice. The second half was also close with TDs beeblebrox and bickerman but they were matched with TDs from Arizona to allow them to hold off the copperheads.
Week 2: copperheads vs monkeys 0-1
Hoping to rebound front he lose last week Brandon and the copperheads prepared for another divisional game with the silverbacks. This one could have been a lot worse due to the copperheads losing the turnover battle 2-0 with two ints from the queen. The copperheads jumped out to an early 14-0 lead with 2 tds from the rookie, coward from 2 yards out. The offense was clicking. They took a 14-3 lead at half. After some back and forth the copperheads were next on the board going up 17-3. The silverbacks were going to quitting though. Their star WR McHollywood finally saw the end zone and that was also followed up by a FG but they would fall short and the copperheads would head out with their first win of the season.
Week 3: paradise comes to Austin 1-1
Honolulu had been kind of a surprise this season after going 5-11 the prior season. They would continue that dominance here against the copperheads. They jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first half. Brandon and the copperheads failed to get any points on the board. They did finally get 2 tds in the third quarter from Penne and coward but it was too late and they were matched with a TD and a FG from Honolulu. Hon would then tack on 10 more points in the fourth to walk out with a 33-15 win over Austin. This was another set back for Brandon who was tired of this roller coaster ride. It’s been this way almost every season. had to move on to focus on next week.
Week 4: snakes vs water puppies 1-2
Austin has had some trouble wrangling the otters. In previous matchups, the run game from the otters had always given the copperheads some trouble. Austin figured it out for this game. It also helps that OCO had a different QB which had led the otters in rushing against Austin. Brandon and the Copperheads quickly showed they were the better team this game. They scored 20 unanswered in the first half. Offense was rolling and the defense had completely stopped the otters in their tracks. Third quarter was pretty quiet but OCO did find the end zone and break the goose egg. Some FGs were exchanged in the fourth quarter but Austin pulled out victorious over the pesky otters to bring them back to .500.
Week 5: Copperheads vs what was left of the secondline 2-2
NOLA had pretty much given up on the season trading away just about every player they had. They were going to go through a rebuild and smartly move valuable players in exchange for a lot of future draft picks. So they had to know how the season was going to go for them. And this game went exactly how one would have expected. Austin just straight dominated. They had 7 sacks, 5 turnovers, and 35 pancakes. the first half was pretty close at 16-3 but Austin poured it on in the second with 3 TDS and 2 FGs which would lead them to a 43-10 win. Brandon knew this was an expected W, but sometime an easy win like this is what is needed to keep the momentum going.
Week 6: Austin vs The dreaded butchers 3-2
Since his time in the ISFL, Brandon has yet to beat the Chicago butchers. This was a game that was always a big one for him since it was his match up vs his two good friends Austin Morley and Big Joe Reed. Especially since him and Big joe would be lining up against one another. He wanted to finally get the win over them so they would shut their mouths. HOwever, like the other matchups they have had, this one was all butchers. Their defense completely shut down Austin who only managed 3 points until the final minute of the game where they scored their only TD. While pleased with his personal performance Brandon was disappointed with another loss to them and brought the back to .500.
Week 7: snakes vs cats 3-3
After another disappointing loss to the butchers Brandon and the copperheads had to move forward with their last divisional game for the first half of the season against SJS. Minus the first quarter this game was all austin. It started with sjs getting a sack against the Queen for a safety but the copperheads would figure it out after that. Scoring 17 unanswered in the second quarter but gave up a late FG to make it 17-5. The teams swapped FGs in the third and then 10 more for austin in the fourth to win 30-15. The story of the game was the 8 sacks that Austin’s defense had. And another good performance from Brandon with 10 cakes.
Week 8: yeti cool down austin 4-3
Not the best start to the season but Brandon knew there was still plenty of football to be played. They just needed to keep some momentum going after these wins. The yeti came to visit and sure cooled down any momentum austin was getting. The scored doesn’t necessarily show how loop sides this game was. It started out with Austin’s offense being shut down and the yeti putting up 17 unanswered points in the first half. Coward and Newman both find the end zone for austin in the second half but it was too late and it was matched up with 10 from the yeti. The queen was also sacked a total of 7 times. Another good game for Brandon but hard to be happy about it when you aren’t winning.
Week 9: crash crash austin 4-4
The hot team this season was the Cape Town crash and they were led by JHM who was dominating the league. The crash owned austin and dominated in all phases of the game. It didn’t start out bad with austin being up 7-3 on a bickerman touchdown in the first quarter but then Cape Town would figure it out. JHM put up 151 and 2 TDs and Cape Town would add another 3 passing TDs on top of them and austin could only manage to find the end zone one other time. The queen was sacked 5 times, had 2 passes picked and austin gave up 2 fumbles. Cape Town showed they were the best team in the league and left austin with a 38-14 whoopin. Brandon and the team were crushed after that performance. It wasn’t even one worth watching film of.
Week 10: running it back with Honolulu 4-5
Brandon and the copperheads needed to get off this losing streak if they wanted any chance at the division and this was a great game to do it with Honolulu being the division leaders. This game was much closer than the first matchup this season score wise. Honolulu tan circles around Austin’s defense with 384 total yards of offense most from the passing attack. Austin couldn’t handle it. They did manage to keep points from being scored which is the most important part. Austin would keep it close 10-6 at half but Honolulu would score 10 more unanswered. Austin would score late making it 20-13 but couldn’t score again and they would lose a third straight.
Week 11: heart break monkeys 4-6
The copperheads beat the monkeys in New York in their first match up. Looking to get out of this losing streak Brandon hoped they could turn things around. A chance at the playoffs were slim but more just for a morale boost. And boy this one was thriller with no defense on either side. The teams combined for almost 750 yards and 60 total points. It would start out with the silverbacks dominating and being up 17-7 in the first half. After a TD from beeblebrox and a pick 6 for austin and a TD for New York it would be 24-21 New York going into the fourth. Austin would score back to back FG with the second one being with 1:30 left and they were up 27-24. However as mentioned earlier no defense was played and they allowed New York to tie it with 29 second left on a 25 yard FG. Then I’m over time mchollywood would burn austin for a 65 yard game winning TD.
Week 12: austin still can’t figure it out with Arizona 4-7
Austin lost the first match up this season and have always struggled in Arizona. Continuing on this 4 game skid Brandon was feeling pretty discouraged. The team looked great at the beginning of the season but for some reason they just can’t quite put it all together. At some point things just have to click with this amount of talent right? The first points of the game came off a safety against the Queen. Not a good start. Austin would manage to be in the lead at half thanks to a FG and a TD from beeblebrox. They were up 10-9. Arizona would pull away scoring a TD in the third and one in the fourth. Tolliver would score for austin with just over 2 min left but they could do anything else and drop a fifth in a row.
Week 13: fire lizards sizzle the snakes 4-8
At this point there’s no chance at the playoffs for austin and Brandon was disappointed. They had worked so hard but the last couple seasons they just can’t find the rhythm. Berlin was another struggling team at 3-9. Both teams were playing for pride at this point. Austin relied heavy on the pass attack throwing 57 passes but that was berlins strong suit and it showed. They played a bend don’t break defense only giving up 3 points in the first half. Berlin had taken the lead 10-3. The teams exchanged TDs in the third and the fourth with austin scoring with 7 min left in the fourth to be down 24-17. They couldn’t manage to find the end zone on either of their next two drives as austin drops 6 in a row. Brandon just walked off the field with helmet in hand and was ready to leave.
Week 14: looking for a glimpse of hope with OCO 4-9
all Brandon wanted was to win again. It had been 7 weeks since their last win and it was demoralizing. It’s hard to get yourself up and going when you are going through a rut like this. Luckily austin was finishing off the season with some of the weaker teams on their schedule. First up was OCO which was a team that had always given austin some trouble so this wasn’t a cake walk. The game started with a safety for OCO but austin would pour it on in the first half being up 21-5 with two TDs from coward and 1 from bickerman. OCO wouldn’t back down and they made it a game in the third making it a 6 point game 24-18. Fourth quarter would start with a Newman TD but then the teams went back and forth on drives until OCO scored again but there was only 44 second left and austin escaped with their first win in almost 2 months 31-25.
Week 15: austin capitalizes on struggling second line 5-9
Austin dominated the second line in their first match up with a 43-10 win. Brandon was hoping to do that again to get some momentum in these last 2 games of the season. Maybe they could take that into the off season and into next season. This one would start off scary for austin would punt, punt, and fumble on their first 3 drives while Nola would capitalize scoring 2 TDs and going up 14-0. Austin would manage to score twice before half though to tie it up 14-14.
Week 16: season finale with the saber cats 6-9
The season for Brandon and the copperheads wraps up with a trip to San Jose. Again the playoffs are not possible so this game is to hopefully continue the momentum going into the off season. Austin won the first match up 30-15 so they hoped to get another win here. The first quarter was uneventful with neither team scoring but austin would find some openings in the second quarter. Both coward and Newman would punch in 1 yard TDs and brown would as another 3 points giving austin a 17-0 lead at half. San Jose would finally get on the board later in the third to make it 17-7 but coward would punch another one in for austin early in the fourth. San Jose would score again late in the fourth but austin would end the season on a high note with a 24-14 W.
This is by no means the season Brandon thought they would have this year. It was pretty discouraging but he knows if they can get it together at some point they will be a force to reckon with. He finished the season with 106 pancakes and only 2 sacks. This put him in the top 10 for tackles in the ISFL. He hopes to be even better in up coming seasons as he continues to develop. He’s really liking the move to tackle and being the one to protect the queens blind side. Now it’s time to start prepping for season 42 but first a trip to ihop.
The off season hype for the copperheads was going around. They still sat up top in terms of best tpe for teams and Brandon hoped this was the season that would show it. He put in hours of work this off season and he was ready to take on the challenge of a new season. Winning the ultimus was the overall goal but at this point Brandon was just hopeful to make the playoffs. Let’s see how the first half of the season has played out so far. Will they be in playoff contention?
Week 1: water puppies visit the desert
Austin was successful against the OCO last season winning both matchups. But this was a start of a new season so Brandon didn’t know what to expect. He just knew he needed to go out there and play his game. Austin would punt on their first three drives while OCO would capitalize on one off there’ theirs and take a 7-0 lead in the first. OCO would tack on a FG but austin would match it making it 10-3. That would it for Austin’s offense though. Besides a TD would just over a minute left, they would be shut down. They’re totaled 260 yards of total offense which was a disgrace and Brandon was furious. What a horrible way to start the season. Luckily it was just the beginning.
Week 2: Honolulu travels to the mainland 0-1
Brandon wanted to get on track early this season. Week 1 didn’t go as planned and they could not fall to 0-2. This game will be a real thriller for both sides. Austin would score early but Honolulu retaliates a couple minutes later to make it 7-7 on a pick 6. Austin would then score 14 more on a coward run and a bickerman catch. Honolulu would score in the closing minutes of the first half to make it a 21-14 game. Third quarter would have turnovers and would be low scoring because of braised a game tying touchdown for Honolulu. They would then add 2 quick FGs early in the 4th to go up 6. Then austin would remember how to play football and score 17 unanswered to get their first win of the season.
Week 3: austin hits the road for the first time 1-1
Happy to get a win last week Brandon is hoping to keep it going. This would be a rocky one for austin Let’s see if they can do it. Sjs is always a tough divisional opponent and it would show here. A little bit of a quiet first quarter. Sjs strikes first with a TD and austin would counter with a FG. Austin would struggle in the second. They would get another FG but San Jose would add 13 more to take the lead at half 20-6. Austin must have a had one heck of a half time speech because the second half was all austin. Sjs would be shut out while austin scored 17 to end up taking this one 23-20. Brandon was happy about the win but they needed to focus and not have to play from behind.
Week 4: Brandon’s friend pay him a visit 2-1
As always Brandon looked forward to the matchup against the Chicago butchers because his friend austin and joe played for them. It was a big rivalry even though Brandon had never been on the winning end. This year felt different though. Chicago would score first with a FG but austin would score 2 TDs to jump to a 14-3 lead. Chicago would score 14 of their own even one coming from Brandon’s friend austin. Usually he cheers for his friends but not today. Bickerman and coward would score before half to give austin a good lead at half. Austin would keep Chicago out of the end zone all second half allowing only 9 points while they scored 20 to finally get a win against Chicago 48-26.
Week 5: can austin beat Arizona in Arizona 3-1
Austin continues to struggle with Arizona. Especially when they play in Arizona. Austin’s has won three in a row and Brandon hopes that’s the momentum they need to finally beat Arizona. First quarter was quiet until austin scores first last in the quarter. Second quarter finally had some scoring but it was also late. A FG for Arizona would start it with 4 min left. Coward would score for austin with 2 min left and Arizona would close out the half with a TD with 50 seconds left. Austin is up 14-10. Third quarters only points would be early on an austin fg. Fourth quarter would be all Arizona which would be enough for them to once again beat austin once again. Brandon walks out disappointed with a 24-17 loss.
Week 6: austin takes on the New Orleans fifth line 3-2
After another tough loss to Arizona Brandon was happy to have a matchup with Nola who are going through a rebuild and have been struggling since. This was a chance to get back in the win column. And boy would they. This game would be all austin from start to finish. It would start out with austin a round 23 straight with the help of beeblebrox and Newman and a safety. Nola would finally score a FG but austin would add another TD from bickerman before half. They were up 30-3. Second line would get into the end zone in the third but austin would add another 10 to their lead and walk out with a 40-10 win.
Week 7: austin looks to add more Ws against the monkeys 4-2
Brandon was ready for more action. He had been playing at a high level and hopes to keep it going. He was at 49 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed in the season. This was the type of performance he knew he was capable of and he was still getting better. He wanted to keep his momentum and the team’s momentum going in the right direction. New York came to visit and this was a pretty evenly matched games. They each had 1 turn over, about 350 yards of offense, 15 first downs and almost split time of possession exactly in half. Mcturtle would get the s print started for New York but a missed xp would hurt but austin would match it with their own moss on their second TD in the second half. Austin would lead 13-9 at half. Newman would add another 7 for austin as well as 2 FG from brown. New York would also score in the fourth but it wasn’t enough a small austin would keep the train rollin.
Week 8: last years champs get a visit from Austin 5-2
The crash were last years ultimus champions and they dominated the league last year so Brandon knew this was a going to be a tough matchup but he looked forward to it. You only get better but playing tough competition. First quarter was quiet on both sides due to a few punts and ints from both sides. Austin would break the 0-0 tie with a long FG from brown. After back to back turnovers by the teams cape town scored to tie it but austin would score another FG to take a 6-3 lead at half. Third quarter was also quiet but boy did the fourth quarter bring some excitement. Cape Town would tie it 6-6 with 4:30 left. They would also add on a TD to take the lead with 1:38 left. How we austin didn’t quit. They quickly retaliated with a 57 yard strike to bickerman to tie it up. Cape Town would then try to force it down the field but it would come back to bite them as Tommasi would pick it off and take it back to the house with :31 seconds left.
Brandon is feeling good about this season. Coming off that exciting win in Cape Town was what the team needed. They know they can compete with all the teams in the ISFL and this was a game that proved it. Now they just have to keep that going in the second half of the season. Right now playoffs are in sight but it’s a tight race. They can’t let up or they will once against slip out of the playoffs. Brandon was confident this year was different and they would be taking it all the way. Will this be the year that they bring home the ultimus. Will they finally make the play offs again? Will they break the curse of losing the wildcard game? Still tuned to find out.
