Its that time of year. Madden is out, ISFL never sleeps, and *most* fanbases feel that slight bit of optimism of the starting season (always remember the 2002 Patriots). Football is never more exciting than it is now. To celebrate (and because I kind of finally am able to) I put all 22 ISFL/DSFL franchises into Madden (to the best of my abilities). The relocation is still bad. But there's enough wiggle room to make it happen. There were a few hiccups, but overall I think it went well. Now I would recommend doing a fantasy draft to even out the league and "randomize" the players on the teams. But for this first experiment, I decided not to. So did your favorite NFL franchise get turned into an ISFL one? Let's find out.
First up, I basically had to either move every team. I tried to match locations the best I could. I'll explain why I picked what I picked for each team. Some are spot, on some not so much. (Feel free to steal any of these for a teams color rush idea if you need one). Now, some problems I had was I could not just rebrand teams that were already in ISFL locations (ie Denver Broncos or LA teams) so I made sure to move those teams and put the ISFL as close as possible. You'll see. The format here is ISFL Team -> New Madden Team (NFL Team moved)
Baltimore Hawks -> Montreal Night Hawks (BAL)
Baltimore probably matched its branding and city the closest to its in real life counterpart. But no fear, there's another "French themed" city in North America, Montreal!! So basically this is just the Baltimore Hawks, but evil.
Berlin Fire Salamanders -> Paris Dragons (NE)
Apparently the Diablos got removed as a logo in this Madden, which I wanted to do. So I had to settle for Dragons. Paris, London and Dublin are the only Europe cities, so Paris it is!
Cape Town Crash -> Buenos Aires Bulls (HOU)
Sorry but no Rhinos or Africa cities. But Buenos Aires isn't *too* far away. And Bulls have horns so...it worked pretty well.
Chicago Butchers -> Chicago Raiders (LV)
Nothing really screamed Butchers to me. I thought about the Lumberjacks, cause they're kinda Butchers for trees, but went with Raiders. Close enough, still edgy.
Colorado Yetis -> Salt Lake City Redwoods (DEN)
This one was actually the hardest. First had to yeet Denver and make stuff fit, then had to figure out a logo. Redwoods are in the forests? Where Yetis live? I wanted to do Giants (NYG) but the logo just did not fit.
Sarasota Sailfish -> Orlando Dolphins (MIA)
Pretty sure Miami is closer to Sarasota than Orlando but I wanted to move every team (see Baltimore lol) so probably the shortest move happens here.
Yellowknife Wraiths -> Vancouver Saints (NO)
I don't know, Saints are dead? Wraiths are ghosts? Kind of works out? At least Vancouver was useable. Could have done Alaska too but wanted to keep that Canada pride.
Arizona Outlaws -> Albuquerque Desperados (AZ)
Pretty easy one here, move it right next door. Make them Wild West up-to-no-good folk.
Austin Copperheads -> Austin Steelers (PIT)
A massive oversight by EA, no snake logos. Copper is a metal and so is Steel.
Honolulu Hahalua -> Honolulu Voyagers (LAR)
The Dolphins were the only fish logo, so tried something a little cultural here. It fits pretty well. Even if I didn't like the colors.
New Orleans Second Line -> Memphis Blues (IND)
Pretty proud of this one. Had to move out of NO but overall the Blues were a nice fit, and Memphis is definitely another home of Jazz.
New York Silverbacks -> Brooklyn Titans (TEN)
I was glad Brooklyn could be picked. Unfortunately no ape logos. Silverbacks kind of are Titans of the Jungle though? Maybe Sentinels would have been better? Or I almost just went with the Jets for close branding.
Orange County Otters -> San Diego Armadillos (NYG)
Cute creature into cute creature. Went with San Diego (even though Tijuana is closer to San Diego) cause it was the only city in SoCal to move to.
San Jose Sabercats -> Oakland Tigers (SF)
Bay Area to Bay Area, wanted to go with the Panthers logo, but there were plenty of big cats to choose from.
Kansas City Coyotes -> St. Louis Huskies (KC)
Only dog logo, another misstep by EA. Moved across the state. Worked out well, just hate that it's a winter dog and not a desert dog.
London Royal -> London Monarchs (DET)
I wanted to do London Lions, but this fits. Maybe @IsaStarcrossedcould do London Lions for his Madden play through
Minnesota Grey Ducks -> Omaha Snowhawks (MIN)
Best fit, there really is NOTHING between Minnesota and Seattle/Vancouver. Snowhawks logo fits pretty well. This is one of my favorites.
Portland Pythons -> Portland Packers (GB)
No snake logos sorry, at least the colors match.
Bondi Beach Buccaneers -> Melbourne Buccaneers (TB)
Not Sydney, but close enough.
Dallas Birddogs -> San Antonio Thunderbirds (DAL)
It had bird in the name. Had to move you to rebrand you. So San Antonio, cause Austin was taken.
Norfolk Seawolves -> Virginia Beach Dreadnaughts (NYJ)
Absolutely the best fit. Hands down. I will probably do a serious Franchise mode moving a team here with this branding.
Tijuana Luchadores -> Mexico City Wizards (PHI)
Staying in Mexico, if you don't know why I picked the Wizards, ask @wizard_literal
So that is all the teams moved. We end up with a league looking like this.
and
I tried my best to get 2 ISFL teams per division. Team logos end up looking like below.
But I couldn't just leave it at that. So I had to simulate a season!! Below are the division results.
The Hawks and Copperheads take out the AFC North. Joe Burrows MVP season misses the playoffs
The Coyotes lead the league with 15-2 record. Colorado puts together a solid season (Madden loves Wilson, I mean Wolfie McDummy Jr. for some reason) Chicago finished last in division.
The Silverbacks win this division. The Second Line miss the playoffs at 10-7 (oof). The Crash, well crash-out, to the bottom.
Out first irl team wins a division. The Sailfish come is 2nd is what is probably the hardest NFL division. Norfolk and Berlin miss out, but finish strong still.
Portland Pythons win their division! Rivals Grey Ducks and Royals miss out. Sad!
Sabercats and irl Seahawks take the NFC West. Kicking out Honolulu and league last 0-17 Arizona Outlaws. Ouch.
The whole division here was decide by two games. Pretty wild. Yellowknife survives. Young leads irl Panthers to the playoffs. Bondi Beach and irl Falcons miss playoffs.
Tijuana wins the NFC East with fellow DSFL side the Bird Dogs. The ISFL team Orange County doesn't perform.
So this all lead to a playoff bracket like so.
I'll walk you through the playoffs before posting the season recap screen. Starting in the top left. Sarasota Sailfish upset the irl Bills. The Copperheads move on against the Hawks. The Yeti finally don't suffer disappointment and get past New York. The DSFL Coyotes beats the Sailfish in the Divisional round. And I lied, Yetis lose to the Copperheads. In a massive upset, regular season winner Coyotes lose to the 10-7 Copperheads, who make it to the Super Bowl (I mean Ultimus).
On the other side. Tijuana works that playoff magic and beats the irl Panthers. Irl Seahawks beats the Wraiths (sadge). The Bird Dogs walk away in the DSFL match up against the Pythons. The Bird Dogs would go on the beat the Luchadores in the next round too. Seahawks beat the conference champion Sabre Cats. Unfortunately Seattle goes on to rob us of a full ISFL Ultimus and beat the Bird Dogs for the NFC conference (noooooo). Giving us a Ultimus (Super Bowl) between Austin Copperheads and Seattle Seahawks where....
Seattle unfortunately steals the show. And Joe Burrow ruins the whole sim by stealing the MVP from what could have been an ISFL player (same with stinky Von Miller). Two ISFL players did win rookies of the year, I need to find out who based on depth charts and post a comment.
This was a lot of fun. Those of you that know Madden, would you have moved teams differently? While I didn't replace any players (and all teams had their irl rosters) I can try to find the stats for *your* player. Basically I can look up who you were in the game (for example if you are 2nd in TPE for RBs on your team, I would pick the 2nd player in OVR between HB/FBs, or 3rd in TPE in LBs on your team then 3rd in OVR between ROLB, LOLB, MLBs). I did sim to the offseason, but I can try and reply to you with your players stat line if you ask down below. Let me know if you want me to sim 10 years and make another post with all Ultimus Champions!
