Humans, for the most part, are creatures of habit. This is quite apparent when it comes to daily routines and especially when it comes to morning routines. Do you wake up naturally or by an alarm or by screaming kids? Is the first thing you do when you open your eyes to reach for your phone or to embrace a loved one in your bed? What is the order of showering, brushing your teeth, and using the toilet? (I assume there are some of you who are thinking it would be funny to multitask all three… to that I say congratulations on the efficiency but also, gross!) Do you make yourself coffee or breakfast or both or neither? The reason I mention daily routines is because for the past ten days or so that I have been apart of the league, the ISFL has been incorporated into daily routines.
Say what you want, but I am fortunate enough to work 100% remotely from home; no traffic or commuting, no people randomly wandering into your workspace when you are trying to be productive, and no one getting on you about what you are doing with the downtime or your breaks. As such, once I boot up my computer for the morning, I have an order of operations/routine that I do every workday. On screen one, I have my email. On screen two, I have my workable area that has my spreadsheets or documents that I am working on. On screen three, I have my web browser that has the data or information I need with a separate tab open for Spotify.
However, for the past ten days I have also used my third screen to have a tab open for the league page and as well as my Discord. Now, my productivity is still spot on, but I will say that my free time in-between emails or during breaks my mind does drift to the league. I start thinking about things like, “is my team [the 10-time DSFL Champion Tijuana Luchadores] playing tonight?” or “did I complete all my tasks to earn TPE?”. Just like a song that you hear in a grocery store or an elevator becomes an earworm that you find yourself humming to throughout your day, the ISFL becomes this small voice that says, “something new might be going on, you should check the league page/Discord”… or maybe that is just me.
Yet, I will say that I am slightly saddened on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays because I am only in the DSFL; which means that I only have games Tuesdays and Thursdays. Granted, one of those days is doubleheader but I would still like to have it spread out across more days. Except, on nights where the ISFL plays, since predictions can become TPE I find myself locked in and cheering for the teams that I have selected for that week. Much like The Eagles’ timeless hit, “Hotel California”, I can check out anytime I want but I can never leave. Case in point, I feel kind of bad that I told @DL14 that I would not add more work to his pile by making him grade another media post by me, but c’mon… it is 2.5x media week! (And he can apparently read fast)
Speaking of my pseudo “addiction” to the ISFL, the past couple of nights I have found myself going further down the rabbit hole on the league page. I was scrolling through the different Forum sections and for some reason “Punishments” stuck out to me; I am not into BDSM, but I was intrigued as to what could happen in this imaginary league that would constitute punishments.
The most recent punishment dealt with the Infern8 "Case"/Punishment, where in there was a results “leak”. You can read the short post on your own time if you are unfamiliar with what happened, but what I do want to focus on are the comments made regarding the actual punishment. It is definitely reminiscent of what happens in the NFL when Commissioner Goodell makes a ruling; it brings out the criticism from the people. One comment, in particular, made me laugh from @zeagle1, “HO taking a fat L on this one. I hope infern appeals this as this exact thing has happened several times before with no punishment. Also the Precedence used is tangentially related at best, and was probably a harsh punishment for the circumstances.” All of it felt like it was an actual court case that referenced previous cases as precedents and even has an Appeals Committee.
Now that my appetite for punishment was peaked, I opened the next post. This led me to the case about tampering by @Tmoney6996. Right off the bat, there was a reference to the violation of ISFL Rule V.A.1. Before I continued reading the rest of that post, I wanted to familiarize myself with the league rules first but what happened next was me reading the entire document out of sheer curiosity. When I was done reading the league rules, my mind went to an episode of How I Met Your Mother wherein random rules and signs get made because someone did something that others in power did not want to happen; like “No motorcycles on the casino floor”. I began to think about the number of rules that have been made in the ISFL because someone did something that others and/or the head office felt was not right or not within the “spirit” of the league.
I do not have attention deficit disorder and I am, by all accounts, neurotypical, but sometimes I like to pull on threads and see what comes out on the other side; hence, this rabbit hole of ISFL matters had me entranced. It spurred so many questions that I do not know if anyone really knows or remembers…
How many unique users have been a part of the ISFL?
How many people have quit playing midseason or after one season?
How many people are still around since the inception of the ISFL?
How many people have created multiple players?
How many people know each other in real life?
How many people have formed friendships strictly because of their interactions with the ISFL?
How many people are genuinely annoyed with certain people within the ISFL?
How many people have had to explain what the ISFL is to friends, family, and/or significant others?
How old is the youngest ISFL user?
How old is the oldest ISFL user?
How often do trades occur? (i.e. Dino Nuggets to the Hawks?)
Eventually, I finished the post where Tmoney6996 “will forfeit his GM pay for Season 44, a total of $12M, and will be placed on probation for a period beginning immediately and ending at the conclusion of S45.” But I then needed to find some answers to the questions I had, so I began my clicking around the league page again. This is where I found the League Wiki (https://wiki.sim-football.com/index.php?title=Main_Page) and enjoyed the “Did you know” section. Unfortunately, my questions did not find answers, but I did find more interesting things while browsing.
Apparently, there are ratings for Fanbase, Fan Approval, and Bandwagon. How are these determined?

Then I clicked on League Owners, but both pages came up blank.

Then I checked out the Newspaper. I do enjoy the “Game of the Week” where they predict who will win. I would like to see a running tabulation, like on an NFL pre-game show, where you can see each predictor’s records of accuracy. (i.e. Jeremy Piper is 5-3 on his predictions this season)

Then I looked at the S45 Offseason Schedule. Are we having the DSFL Draft presentation on Thanksgiving Day? Does the ISFL Preseason start on Black Friday?
https://forums.sim-football.com/showthre...?tid=47912
Thu 23 Nov - 08:00PM - DSFL Draft presentation
Fri 24 Nov - 08:00PM - ISFL Preseason (streamed if possible)
Then I was amazed at the microeconomy of the trading cards. I cannot believe there are that many people who are part of the “Dotts Subscription Service”?

Squirrel! I mean, there was a ping in the Casino Discord. The discussion of parlays being additive versus multiplicative is a good point. Not enough juice for the squeeze.
Lastly, I landed on the Merch Store. Do people actually buy ISFL merchandise?

I mean… a Tijuana Luchador black hoodie would look real clean…
