I wavered back and forth throughout this process on whether or not I was even going to post this. It's been pretty tough to get vibes on where folks might end up, but I've done some due dilligence in talking to some GMs and prospects to piece this together. Also, let's face it, money is money. I believe I went 0/8 in my DSFL 1st round mock, so let's see if we can repeat the performance lmao.
1.1 Chicago Butchers
Needs: Tight End, Safety, Running Back, Quarterback
Projected Pick: RB - Willie Swaggert @GlimsTC
Rationale: Honestly, it's been tough for me to get a read on what CHI plans to do. Ultimately, I think they will go with Swaggert, who can form a thunder and lightning scenario for their backfield with Jake Jefferson, and will become the clear RB1 if the max earning continues.
1.2 New Orleans Second Line
Needs: Cornerback/Safety, Linebacker, Running Back, Kicker/Punter
Projected Pick: LB - Siri Kjellström @bex
Rationale: The Second Line have a very large need at linebacker, with S43 Bubba Hog (563 TPE) and S36 Ignatius Reilly (408 TPE) currently their only options there. They will be happy to get a no-brainer max earner and solid LR presence in Bex here.
1.3 San Jose Sabercats
Needs: Running Back (they have other needs, but I'm pretty positive they go RB here lol)
Projected Pick: RB - Kit Fisto @Pvtpenne
Rationale: The prodigal son (not to be confused with the user ProdigalSon) returns to San Jose. Penne's previous player was a massive part of San Jose both on and off the field with his last player, and he fits a need for San Jose. They won't overthink this one and will be thrilled to bring him back.
1.4 Colorado Yeti
Needs: Running Back, Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Safety/Cornerback
Projected Pick: RB - Hercules Henry @woelkers
Rationale: As a former COL GM, I know that the Yeti value user over position and love to bring back their former faithful. They will be jacked to bring back their former GM and the current DSFL commish here, and he'll form a future formidable 1-2 punch at RB with Swamp Maiden.
1.5 Orange County Otters
Needs: Defensive Line, Linebacker
Projected Pick: DE - Doctor Who @thewhovian
Rationale: Defensive linemen are an absolute premium these days, and Orange County will be thrilled to make thewhovian the 1st new create off the board here. She's shown solid activity and will fit right in with the rest of those fun folks in the Orange County locker room, and may be a staple of their defense for seasons to come!
1.6 Yellowknife Wraiths
Needs: Wide Receiver, Defensive Line, Safety, Running Back
Projected Pick: S - Paul Edgecomb @TomHanks
Rationale: Yellowknife needs help at defensive back, with some low-mid earners there currently and a regressing Sam Sung. They'll turn to a proven recreate and legendary user in TomHanks to help them hold it down.
1.7 Berlin Fire Salamanders
Needs: Cornerback/Safety, Wide Receiver
Projected Pick: CB - Dawelle Wevis @AW13
Rationale: Berlin's defensive backfield is hitting the regression bug hard, with Thorsen (S37), Sideline-Touchdown (S38), and Forty-Two (S36) coming to the tail ends of their careers. Berlin gets an a dedicated user and nailed on max earner here in AW13 to be the future leader of their defensive backfield.
1.8 Arizona Outlaws
Needs: Wide Receiver, Defensive Line, Linebacker, Cornerback
Projected Pick: LB - Xavier Buckley @CptGoosar
Rationale: Arizona is another team that likes to keep their own around (totally not a cult...nope... ). They jump at the chance to bring Goosar back into the fold to fill a need a linebacker, with Akayre (S36) and van Campen (S35) hitting deep regression and McTurtle having retired.
1.9 Sarasota Sailfish
Needs: Wide Receiver, Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Cornerback
Projected Pick: CB - Simon Winston @Sizzzle
Rationale: Sarasota has some solid options at this pick, and to be honest, I audibled from Emerson Bigguns at the last minute. I just see defensive back as the more pressing need, and both sizzzle and CaptainDMG are fantastic new users. Andrews (S36), Dhillon (S37), and Zeus (S33) are in regression at corner for the Fish, so they'll bring Winston in to the the future, joining Fronky Fresh.
1.10 Austin Copperheads
Needs: Defensive Line, Cornerback
Projected Pick: DT - Oops All-Pro @PugWalrus
Rationale: PugWalrus is the pick here, filling a team need and entering the fray as future GM. As is tradition with GM picks of all kinds....REACHHHHHHHHH /s.
1.11 New York Silverbacks
Needs: Running Back, Cornerback/Safety, Linebacker, Defensive Line
Projected Pick: DT - Emerson Bigguns @CaptainDMG
Rationale: Despite having some bigger needs, I think NYS will jump at the chance to bring in a great new create in Bigguns. Fat Jack will be playing his corpse season next season, and then Bigguns can really enter the fold and start lining up with absolute beast DTs Scrimmage (1068 TPE) and Redd (1014 TPE).
1.12 Cape Town Crash (via Baltimore Hawks)
Needs: Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Linebacker, Safety
Projected Pick: LB - Perry Passiveman @Cody
Rationale: The former team GM has recreated at the same position as his last player, who also played for the team. It makes sense for Cape Town to bring him back to fill his own hole in the front seven.
NOTE: THE TWO TEAMS BELOW ARE POSTED IN ORDER OF REGULAR SEASON RECORD, AS THEIR ORDER WILL BE DETERMINED BY WHO WINS THE ULTIMUS.
1.13 Honolulu Hahalua
Needs: Running Back, Wide Receiver, Defensive Best Player Available
Projected Pick: LB - Juran Riley @Huskies311
Rationale: The Hahalua's roster is stacked, and they have the priviledge to go after the best player available on defense. They may be surprised that Riley is still available for them here, and they'll bring him in to evenaully fill the shoes of Burner and Hayden (S38).
1.14 Cape Town Crash
Needs: Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Safety
Projected Pick: FB - Worsethan Blaze @g2019
Rationale: While Cape Town has bigger positional needs, I think they'll bring my player in here. With the legendary JHM in regression, Cape Town can use Blaze to back up S40 Nakiri Ayame, with the added bonus that Blaze can line up at TE in some formations, as American Boot (S35) also is deep in regression.
Man, this was very tough! Here are some other players who could absolutely find themselves in the first round and make a fool out of me (again).
Ali Star - LB @ProdigalSon Plenty of teams have needs at LB, and I could definitely see them going to NYS at 11, 12, or 13/14.
Sebastian Lovecraft - S @Dagon I was so close to popping Lovecraft in somewhere. Great prospect at a position of need, they could absolutely go at 12, 13, or 14oa.
Klaus von Reinherz - OL @J0EB Another one that was tough to leave out. Offensive linemen are extremely valuable...the only thing preventing me from putting von Reinherz here was his own comments on his earning depending on his schedule. Still, he could easily go anywhere between picks 9 and 14.
André Benn - WR @Ben Ben has the goal of having the best rookie WR season of all time, stating that he wants to stay down in the DSFL as long as possible to reach ISFL at max TPE he can. With him looking for the right fint, I think he could still go as high as 9 or 13/14.
Micah Dixon - CB @Shylo_Moxii Dixon shows tremendous upside, and one of the only concerns will be his bank. As defensive back is a need for quite a few teams, I could see a world where he sneaks into the 11-14 range.
Final Thoughts:
Man, this was super tough! While there are a lot of folks who I think are solidly first rounders, those late first/early second folks really could go either way. I'm super excited to see how the draft shakes out, I wish all teams the best of luck, and thanks for reading!
