Pick Sixes
My two former involuntary quarterbacks (Micycle McCormick and Wolfie McDummy) garnered the nicknnames "McPickSix" due to the amazing frequency at which they threw pick sixes. This spurred me to actually go and track the number of pick-sixes each QB and each user has thrown over time.
There are now a total of six users in league history with multiple ISFL starting QBs - with Opera_Phantom joining the club (negs, JBLAZE_THE_BOSS, Oles, AW13, and myself) with Jay Cue III. I have also been stupid enough to create a third quarterback, a mistake no one else has made yet.

9. 19 pick-sixes (19 reg. season) - bovovovo
10. 19 pick-sixes (18 reg. season) - Frick_Nasty
* denotes that a user had multiple QBs
Unsurprisingly, creating a third quarterback has shot me back up to the top of the leaderboard, seemingly uncatchable for now. Craig Jerrith IV has also helped negs quickly climb up this board up to third place. Will anyone else be dumb enough to create a third QB? Time will tell.
Top 10 Pick-Sixes by PLAYER
Code:
1. 27 pick-sixes (27 reg. season) - Kazimir Oles
2. 25 pick-sixes (25 reg. season) - Malcolm Savage
3. 24 pick-sixes (22 reg. season) - Carter Knight
4. 22 pick-sixes (22 reg. season) - Willier Miller
5. 20 pick-sixes (20 reg. season) - Ryan Negs
5. 20 pick-sixes (20 reg. season) - Adrian St. Christmas
6. 20 pick-sixes (19 reg. season) - Joliet Christ Jr.
7. 20 pick-sixes (18 reg. season) - Mike Boss Jr.
8. 19 pick-sixes (19 reg. season) - Borkus Maximus III
9. 19 pick-sixes (18 reg. season) - Gimmy Jaroppolo Jr.
There haven't been a ton of changes to the overall list, though the order has shifted a little. Malcolm Savage and Carter Knight have swapped places on the list, and actives Willier Miller and Adrian St. Christmas have stormed into 4th and 5th place respectively. Everyone else on this list has stayed pretty consistent. With St. Christmas without a team currently I would expect he tops off at 20, but Miller is still quarterbacking the Sailfish and has plenty of time to continue climbing up!
As for the active QBs last season:
Code:
4. 22 pick-sixes (22 reg. season) - Miller, W
5. 20 pick-sixes (20 reg. season) - St. Christmas, A
11. 18 pick-sixes (17 reg. season) - Beatz, P
15. 17 pick-sixes (16 reg. season) - Falco, B
21. 16 pick-sixes (16 reg. season) - McDummy Jr., W
45. 12 pick-sixes (12 reg. season) - Penguin, P
52. 11 pick-sixes (11 reg. season) - Bannings, L
58. 10 pick-sixes (9 reg. season) - Winters III, D
67. 9 pick-sixes (9 reg. season) - Speedings, O
72. 8 pick-sixes (8 reg. season) - Patterson, J
81. 3 pick-sixes (3 reg. season) - Cue III, J
81. 3 pick-sixes (3 reg. season) - McRobinson, L
84. 2 pick-sixes (2 reg. season) - Boudreaux, M
86. 1 pick-six (1 reg. season) - Bollrsveifla, T
Let's take a look at some trends in pick-sixes. Last installment, I only included a chart of pick-sixes per attempt in ISFL history.
(Full size here.)
As we saw last time, it does seem to appear that the pick-six rate per attempt has been gradually increasing since S15. There is definitely some significant variation season by season but the trend does appear. The overall interception rate per attempt also continues to appear flat:
(Full size here.)
If anything, the number of picks is decreasing season by season! This means we can take a look at a new graph that wasn't included last time - the rate of pick-sixes per interception:
(Full size here.)
This is very clearly increasing as seasons progress. Are DBs just getting that much better? S43 had the highest rate of pick-sixes per interception at 20%! Is it an offense thing maybe? I have no idea.
Here's a graph of pick-sixes overall over time:
(Full size here.)
Attempts also remain relatively flat since the schedule and overall league expansions in the S20's:
(Full size here.)
I'd love to see if someone more involved with the sim and builds could explain why the pick-six rate keeps increasing over time.
Wealth Inequality Episode 8 - The Last Non-Billionaire
We have billionaires again! And not just that, but multiple billionaires! Our old, unfortunately now much less active friend @dude_man remains well in the lead of the money race, exceeding $1.34 BILLION ISFL dollars. For context, dude_man has more money over $1B than the 99th percentile user has money at all.
(Full size here.)
With the S47 Offseason Events concluded, I've retaken 2nd place from @Pat, who has had it for a decent period of time between updates. After us, @swoosh has stormed into the billionaire club thanks to his graphic-pumping machinery, while @OrbitingDeath has taken 5th place as the last non-billionaire on in the top 5. Combined, the top 5 users now own the same amount of wealth as the lowest 59.68% of users - an increase of a whopping 17.25% since our last updated value of 42.43%. The total value of the top 5 is now $5.547 Billion, an increase of $1.419 Billion since our last update.
Breakdown of the percentiles:
- 10%: $2.50M → $1.00M (-1.5M, -60%)
- 25%: $5.50M → $1.00M (-4.5M, -81.2%)
- 50%: $9.00M → $5.60M (-4.4M, -48.9%)
- 75%: $15.62M → $11.03M (-4.59M, -29.4%)
- 90%: $29.77M → $22.46M (-7.31M, -24.6%)
- 99%: $253.40M → $250.11M (-3.29M, -1.3%)
- Top 5: $4,128M → $5,574M (+1,146M, +27.8%)
This is some shocking results. I know it has been over an IRL year since I've last updated this data, but holy cow. Every single bracket has lost not just some money, but a significant amount of money. I don't know how much of this can be attributed to usersgetting recruited and going insta-IA, but it's very clear that only the very very top of the economy has gained significant amounts of money. ~~It's almost like the real world!~~
Like we did last time, let's instead take the limit of the top 300 users. The last few activity checks have actually been less than 300 replies, but there is likely also a large number of users who have a lot of money and have gone IA. With there being a total of 3,976 users in the bank, this matches with the top 7.5% of users. This obviously isn't a perfect representation of the active userbase, but I think it will give us a better idea of the league economy:
(Full size here.)
Just like last time, the richest 5 make up a larger percentage of the population (now equal to 140 users!) though it is not a very large gain. That being said, this percentage increased from 45.67% to 46.67%, meaning the economy still became more top-heavy.
Breakdown of the percentiles:
- 0%: $24.5M → $28.90M (+4.40M, +18.0%)
- 10%: $26.19M → $32.19M (+6.00M, +22.9%)
- 25%: $29.69M → $38.71M (+9.02M, +30.4%)
- 50%: $45.37M → $63.91M (+18.54M, +40.9%)
- 75%: $96.71M → $138.98M (+42.27M, +43.7%)
- 90%: $193.02M → $297.71M (+104.69M, +54.2%)
- 99%: $701.44M → $1,011.07M (+309.63M, +44.1%)
Looking at the data through this lens (which, of course, does lend us to selection bias), it does seem a bit more encouraging. Again assuming the top 300 are representative of the average userbase (it's not) we see that the economy has gained money across the board. A sign of inflation? Perhaps, but given that this money isn't real anyways I'm not sure it's worth being concerned about.
In our last update, there were 48 users with a net worth over $150M. Now we have a total of 73 users. There were previously 16 users over the $300M mark, now there are 30. Finally, there were only 6 users with more than $500M, but now there are 13 users. And of course, there had only been 1 billionaire in league history (myself at $1,008,117,276 - the previous high water mark) but now there are 4 billionaires. I don't anticipate that number growing in the near future - plus swoosh has hedged his bets against Baltimore so if things go well for the Hawks his total will certainly drop below $1B. For now it seems to be a race between myself and Pat to catch up to dude_man's new record balance of $1,345,411,536.
Well it's been over a year since I last updated this series but it was long overdue. Life has been pretty busy so I've placed this (and many other things) on the backburner, but with Spring Break meaning I don't have to lesson plan for a little bit and double media as a motivator, I finally got around to doing it.
I've got an update on 4th down decisions hopefully coming out soon but knowing how things go around here don't hold your breath!
