Defensive Line Standouts – Week 8
Welcome to week 8 of our Season 4 Defensive Line Standouts. I’m a little behind on these so I’m going to keep weeks 7 and 8 short, but I promise to be back to the full article for week 9! Enough chit chat… Let’s begin!
Defensive End Top Performers
B. Blade ($$$$) 7 TCK, 1 SCK
Tied for the most tackles on the list this week, Blade has seen massive improvements across the board when compared to the rest of the league.
E. Gustavsson ($$) 3 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
A bit of a let down after a successful rookie season, Gustavsson is showing the Yellowknife front office that they shouldn’t give up hope on him yet.
J. Tuck ($ x5) 4 TCK, 1 SCK
Everything is a disappointment when compared to last years campaign, but he continues to make out list week after week. Tuck set number last year that will probably never be touched.
Other Great Performers
J. Cox ($$) 3 TCK, 2 TFL
M. Ramrio ($$$) 3 TCK, 2 TFL
G. Wright Jr. ($$$$) 3 TCK, 2 TFL
All three players posted an identical stat line and are listed in no particular order. Cox is having a solid sophomore campaign while Ramrio is finally making his name known in the land of defensive ends. Wright continues to have a breakout year for the vastly improved Orange County Otters defense.
Defensive Tackle Top Performers
B. Bjornsson ($$) 7 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
I couldn’t skip this one! His first time on our list since week 2 after qualifying 10 times last year, this was his best performance of the season, and the highest scoring performance of the week. Welcome back!
C. Chambers III ($$$$) 5 TCK, 1 TFL, 1 SCK
The defensive tackle dup of Chambers and Miller has been outstanding this year and is making life for opposing offenses extremely difficult.
G. Clegane ($ x5) 3 TCK, 1 TFL 1 SCK
Clegane has been one of the best off-season moves for the Otters as their defense has improved vastly from top to bottom over last year. This is his 5th consecutive appearance here.
Other Great Performers
G. King ($$$$) 3 TCK, 1 SCK
A. Asipi ($ x5) 2 TCK, 1 SCK
V. Cox ($$$) 2 TCK, 1 SCK
What was once the weakness of their defensive line, the duo of defensive tackles in Arizona are really making a name for themselves this year. Cox has been getting work done in Vegas, but in a much quieter fashion this season.
Team Appearances After Week 8*
Arizona: 18 (+4)
Baltimore: 18
San Jose: 14 (+1)
Orange County: 14 (+2)
Las Vegas: 10 (+2)
Philadelphia: 8 (+1)
Yellowknife: 7 (+2)
Colorado: 7
For the first time since I started this list way back in season 2, Baltimore has failed to have a player qualify for our list. Combine the goose egg with the very impressive 4-man appearance from the Outlaws (only the second time in history that’s occurred, the other being the Hawks this season in week 3) and the Outlaws jump the Hawks to grab second place. This marks the first time this season the Hawks have not been first, or tied for first. San Jose stays at three, with Orange County closing in to tie for third. Vegas stay at fifth with a solid two appearances. Philadelphia and Yellowknife both jump up one spot, to sixth and seventh, respectively. Colorado falls to eighth with zero players qualifying this week.
As always, if you have any comments, corrections, or question, I’d love to hear them below.
*Just a reminder, this ranking is not necessarily indicative of how well a team’s defense is operating as a whole, just how many times a player from that team has appeared on our list.
