So tomorrow we have some pretty tough match ups, with Norfolk heading to the Pythons who reside in Portland. And the Mexicans heading to Palm Beach to face the Sun bears. This is quite an interesting couple games, as there is a possibility for a bot vs bot Ultimini. This may be fun for the gms of each team but I think we'd all rather see TIJ VS POR. Anyway lets get underway. I will be going over almost every statistical advantage for each match up and determining who I think will win.
Tijuana Luchadores @ Palm Beach Solar Bears
This is a really tough game for the Luchadores, they are playing away and combined with a weak offense this will be a struggling game for them. With weak quarterback play (the worst) Tijuana has recently relied upon the ground game, and Tijuana running back edges out all other backs with 911 rushing yards. Unfortunately Palm Beach still remains a threat in all aspects of the game. They have the 2nd best statistical rusher in the league with Payton and he will probably be looking to tear up the Luchadores come game time. The interesting thing here is that which gameplan will Palm beach use against their opponents, Tijuana has the best safety in the league with Kim, and an amazing coverage linebacker in Elvin Enchant who has 2 picks and a league best among linebackers with 10 passes defended. Throwing will already be hard for this team, but running won't he easy either. Enchant may be a coverage linebacker but he also boasts an impressive 7 sacks and 98 tackles. Pair that with the league best tackler in Brian Mills and running the ball seems just as difficult as passing it. The real difficulty for the Luchadores will be lack of passing that they can do in this game. Should Palm Beach get out in front late in the game, and the clock becomes a factor forcing Tijuana to throw it, It doesn't look like Arbin Asipi Jr will be able to lead this team to a late game victory. He is statistically the worst quarterback in the draft, and has selfishly been missing quarterback practices to work with Outlaws gms to work on other attributes not important to a quarterback, rather than focus on the needs of his DSFL team. He simply is not impressing anyone throughout the league and if it comes down to it he is more likely to throw an interception than a touchdown. Overall I think defensively Tijuana is ready to compete for an Ultimini, but are held back by 0 receiving weapons and poor quarterback play. Tijuana management has been great this year, but missed on a few offensive weapons and unfortunately drafted a selfish quarterback. They made for it on some amazing defensive studs, but will it be enough to carry them through the Palm Beach Solar Bears and through to the ultimini? As for the Solar Bears, they have been red hot in the second half of the season. Despite an awful start (which I said was a fluke and got shot down for saying) The solar bears have been absolutely dominant. Personally I am rooting for the Luchadores, mostly because Palm Beach is an absolutely crazy good team. But unfortunately this may be a rather lopsided match up. Considering they are playing away, and home field advantage is so huge in this league, it looks like the Sun Bears will take this one.
Norfolk Seawolves @ Portland Pythons
The recent mock draft had 5/8 of the first round picks coming out of Portland, why may you ask? Because Portland is really, really good. This may sound like I'm tooting my own horn but there are so many good players in Portland right now. With the best statistical quarterback in the league and the best wide receiver in the league, combined with a great running back duo and a good tight end, Portland is a very complete team on offense. Their defense is no different. With future S7 star Thomas Kane the 3rd already looking impressive and Normal Bagwell leading the league in TPE the Pythons are one of the best defensive units in the league. However they had a very slow start, losing out to Norfolk for the first 2 match ups against their rivals this year. But in the 3rd meeting of the season the Pythons took the win. The key to this game is to beat the Portland offense, this includes shutting down Dwayne Aaron, Glenn McPoyal, Blessed Storm, and Borro Gore. It's not an easy thing to do, especially when PDXBaller is gameplanning against you. In order to win this game Norfolk will have to go to Portland and make their opponents uncomfortable playing in every aspect of the game, running, passing, and defending. Can they do it? Unfortunately for the bot team probably not. We have yet to see a team (in the second half of the season) shut down all 3 of the Python receiving trinity. If they do shut down Dwayne Aaron, McPoyal and Storm step up to have big games. Combine this with home field advantage and it does not look good for Norfolk.
