After posting on Twitter that he focused on the season at hand, Smallwood has found a break to talk about this season, his upcoming free agency and anything else.
Ask away.
Honestly for what is wanting me to test is a drive to see what's out there, what my value is more importantly, to possibly try new things and end my career on a high note. Regression is coming up, and I want to finish strong, whoever I recreate as will not have as prolific or noticeable career as Darren Smallwood so it's about making sure I can walk away, when the time comes, on my terms and with myself satisfied in my work.
Great question about SJS. There is absolutely a chance for me to return there. Right now, they're the top spot, they took me in gave me a chance, and I proved them right. It would take a team to convince me in the mission, belief and culture for me to be against going back. This isn't me leaving on animosity or any ill will, but things are changing in San Jose, and I don't know if that's where I want to be in my next step.
In terms of top destinations. I do not have one, I have some places I do not want to go as it is right now, but I'm not ruling anything out or as a top spot, it's a pretty open field.
Defining Smallwood's Career is fucking weird. I think as a user, tlk would find himself in the hall maybe, but Smallwood not so much. I started running back a little too late, and while I'm 9th in total rushing TDs, I still have a lot more to do if I plan to make the Hall. Part of that is going to be being a strong and active player while pushing and pushing hard for fighting off the regression monster. It's going to take effort, and I've rested on my laurels long enough. When Yellowknife traded me, I didn't become reclusive or shut down, I went off. I pushed myself to not miss a point task and be strong. I think I've come to rest on my laurels and that's not ok. A new environment may be the kick in the ass I need to improve.
I think we're going to the Otters possibly defend their title once again. Although the Wraiths have been spooky good.

What’s prompting you to want to test FA?
What do you think of your time with SJS? Any chance you return to them?
Do you have any top destinations in mind?
What do you think about Smallwoods career so far?
Who’s your favorite to win the Ultimus this year?
