FIRST ANNUAL DSFL SKILLS COMPETITION
Presented by: Under Armor & Gatorade [/div]
Welcome ladies and gentlemen to the FIRST ever DSFL Skills competition hosted by me, Baltimore Hawks Defensive end, Childish Gambino, and presented by Under Armor and Gatorade. We are hoping to bring you an EXCELLENT show here today as these DSFL Draftee Hopefuls showcase their talents for you here today on this BEAUTIFUL Fourth of July ahead of the DSFL Draft next week!
In case you do not know how this works, let us run though it really quick for you! In its simplest terms, it can be referred to as a "simple combine", or a "fun combine", if you will. Each group of our athletes with compete in three different areas of skills. They will then be scored on how well, or poorly, they do in each group and be awarded with points for each skill. At the end, the scores from each event will be tallied up and we will have a winner for that position.
Our groups, and athletes, will be as follows:
In the Quarterback group we have:
Chris Orosz, Adriana Falconi, Joliet L. Christ, Zenyou Wozy, and finally Chris Bennett.
These athletes will be competing in three events, and they are:
Accuracy Challenge: How Accurate are you? Time to find out. There will be eight targets set up at various distances and angles from the quarterback. The Quarterback will need to choose wisely what targets to throw at as they will only get four attempts each. Each target will have 3 point values assigned to it. Where the ball hits on the target will be the points rewarded to that quarterback. The values of the points will go up as the degree of difficulty goes up on the target they attempt to hit. A bonus of 3 points will be rewarded for hitting the bulleyes on all four attempts! The total points from this event will go towards each participants grand total for the three events!
That seems simple enough, right? On to our next event for the Quarterbacks!
Deep Ball Challenge: Everyone can throw the deep ball, right? In this challenge, we take out all accuracy in the deep ball(Rex Grossman anyone?) and let our quarterbacks air it out! Each participant will get 3 attempts to chuck the ball as hard and as far as they can. Only the two furthest throws will count as we will add them together to get our winner! Points will be awarded for placing in this event.
First Place: 5 points
Second Place: 4 Points
Third Place: 3 Points
Fourth Place: 2 Points
Fifth Place: 1 Point
That one sounds like fun, but this final event sounds like A LOT OF FUN! In our final event for the Quarterbacks, they will be competing in:
On the Fly Challenge: In this challenge, our quarterbacks will put all their skills to the test as they will move from station to station where they will attempt two passes at each to hit a target that will move further away as they move to a new station. At the first three stations, the quarterback will be stationary for his throws. At station one, the target will be ten yards away. At station two, the target will be twenty yards away, at station three, the target will be thirty yards away, and finally, at station four, the target will move back to fifteen yards away, but the quarterback must attempt the pass while On the Fly. The first three stations will have points ranging from 4 for a bulleyes, 2 for an inner ring, 1 for the outer ring, and 0 for off the target, and -1 for a complete miss. The quarterbacks will be scored on the total points they accumulate during the throws and the amount of time it takes them to complete the course. The timing will be scored as follows:
Fastest Time: 5 Points
Second Place: 4 Points
Third Place: 3 Points
Fourth Place: 2 Points
Fifth Place: 1 Point
In addition to their points for their time, they will also be rewarded with the points they score from hitting, or missing, their targets. The grand totals will then be rewarded the following points:
First Place: 5 points
Second Place: 4 Points
Third Place: 3 Points
Fourth Place: 2 Points
Fifth Place: 1 Point
So there you have it, all three of our Quarterback events. Only three have opportunities to win each unique event, but only one can be crowned the King of the Quarterbacks! Let us get this show on the road, shall we?!
FIRST UP, THE ACCURACY CHALLENGE!
Taking the field first will be Joliet L. Christ. As he steps up he starts to get loose by rotating his arm and stretching. He grabs the first ball and throws towards the longest target...he hits the outer ring worth 3 points! He tries for the longest target again and puts it over the top! 0 points. His third attempt he attempts the check down target and hits the bullseye! 2 points! On his fourth and final attempt he throws at the medium sideline target and drills the inner ring! 3 points! Christ wraps up his four attempts and ends with 8 points!
Next up will be Chris Bennett. His first attempt he hits the bullseye on the check down target! 2 points! He does the same on his second attempt! 2 more points! I think I see the strategy here for Bennett. His third attempt he attempts the check down again, and again hits the bullseye! 2 points! His fourth and final attempt he hits the check down target again and takes home two points and the bonus 3 for all four bullseyes! That gets him 11 points and he takes the lead. The crowd does not like it, but he does not care as he walks off the field with his hands by his ears egging them on!
Third up will be Adriana Falconi. The feisty Italian is said to have a rocket arm, but no accuracy, so we will see how she fares here. On her first attempt she tries for the short middle target and drills the inner ring! 2 points! Her second attempt she goes for the sideline medium target and, oh no, she misses badly! Time to forget that one. Her third attempt she goes for the short middle target again and hits the bullseye this time! 4 points! Here is her fourth and final attempt....she is going for the medium sideline target, and...she....JUST CATCHES THE OUTER RING! 3 POINTS! That brings her total to 9 points and moves her into second place, but will it last???
Fourth up is going to be Chris Orosz, who has a long family lineage of athletes in these football leagues, but will it translate to stardom here in the NSFL? His first attempt is on its way towards the long middle target and he hits the inner ring! What a throw! 4 points! And Orosz starts off with a bang! His second attempt he goes for the long middle target again and this time he only manages the outer ring, but that is good for another 3 points! His third attempt is away and hes going for the long sideline target and...HE...YES! HE HITS THE BULLSEYE! AND THE CROWD IS GOING CRAZY! WHAT AN AMAZING THROW! 5 POINTS! That throw puts him into the lead with one attempt left! He looks fired up and knows the crowd is loving it, so he cocks back and takes aim for the furthest target, a basket 70 yards away.....he launches, it looks like it has the distance....but it starts to trail left and he misses it badly! BUT the crowd is raucous right now and he walks off encouraging them to get louder!
Our final participant in this accuracy challenge will be Zenyou Wozy. He needs twelve to beat Orosz and eleven to tie Bennett. His first attempt is towards the medium sideline target and he nails the bullseye! 5 points! His second attempt he goes for the short middle and hits the bullseye again! 3 points! His third attempt he goes to the check down and drills the bullseye for a third time! That is two more points and gives him 10 total. His fourth throw could just be to the checkdown again and if he hits the bullseye he would get the 2 points and the 3 bonus points and take home the win, but he doesnt look like hes taking the easy way out here as he fires toward the medium middle target but maybe he should have as he JUST misses the outer ring and 0 points.
Your final standings in the QUARTERBACK ACCURACY CHALLENGE are:
Chris Orosz: 12
Adriana Falconi: 9
Joleit L. Christ: 8
Zenyou Wozy: 10
Chris Bennett: 11
Let us not waste any time and keep this train moving! Next up will be the DEEP BALL CHALLENGE! Remember, here our quarterbacks will get three attempts to throw the deepest ball they can muster up. Only the two highest/longest scores will count towards their total! The highest total will win the event!
First up will be Adriana Falconi. She launches her first attempt and it lands at 73 yards! Great throw Adriana! Her second throw is away and it comes down at 69 yards! She fires her third, and final, attempt and it lands way short of her first two at 64 yards! Her total will be 142 yards!
Second up is Zenyou Wozy. He picks up his first ball and fires away! 72 yards! Amazing! His second attempt it away and he hits 72 yards again! He launches his third attempt and hits 76 yards! WOW. WHAT A THROW! 148 yards will be his total! Awesome!
Next up will be Joliet L. Christ. He throws his first ball and its way short of anyone else coming in at only 58 yards. He knows he can do his better as hes muttering words to himself. His second attempt is away and he clips 60 yards this time coming in at 63 yards. He launches his third and barely gets past 60 and comes in at 61 yards. That is not going to cut it as he scores a total of 124 yards.
Fourth will be Chris Bennett. He throws his first attempt and it lands at 67 yards! His second is away and falls short of his first at 64 yards. He takes the football for his third and final attempt and fires an absolute cannon short and he gets it to 71 yards! That will score him 138 yards and third place for now.
Finally, we have Chris Orosz and his three attempts! His first attempt is away and comes in at 72 yards! What a great throw! His second is launched and lands at only 65 yards. On his third and final attempt, Orosz will need 76 yards to tie Wozy, and 77 to beat him. That may be a tall feat...he steps back....he fires away...he grabs his arm and shouts in absolute pain! Oh no! He may be hurt here. The ball lands and the official score is only 67 yards. That will land him in third place, but as he makes his way to the medical tent, we only hope he can continue in the third and final event.
That means Zenyou Wozy is your Deep Ball winner!
Deep Ball Standings:
Chris Orosz: 139
Adriana Falconi: 142
Joliet L. Christ: 124
Zenyou Wozy: 148
Chris Bennett: 138
So that means after our first two events, the overall leader board looks like this:
Hopefully we can break those ties after Event three!
And Speaking of our third event, it is time for the ON THE FLY CHALLENGE!
Chris Orosz would be up first in this event, but he is still being evaluated in the medical tent, so we will move onto Chris Bennett. hopefully Chris Orosz will be okay and deemed fit to continue so that he can participate in this final event.
Chris Bennett steps up and on the whistle his time will start! *whistle blows*. Bennett grabs his first ball, fires away, and its a bullseye! 4 points! He tosses his second and it hits the inner ring! 2 points! He runs to the second station, picks up his first ball, tosses it towards the target and hits the inner ring! 2 points! He gathers the second ball in, throws to the target and hits the outer ring. 1 point. He jogs over to the third station, throws the first ball and hits the outer ring, 1 point. He brings the second ball up, throws, and he misses the target completely! oh no. Minus 1 point! He runs to the fourth and final station, picks up the ball, throws on the run and he hits the outer ring! 1 point! Bennett's official time comes in at 12.45 seconds! For Now Bennett has 10 points until we get everyone's times in!
Joliet L. Christ walks up now as we will be our second participant in this drill. He slowly makes his way to the first station, puts the hand on the ball, and *whistle blows* he's off! First throw hits the bullseye! 4 points! His second throw is away and that one also hits the bullseye! 4 more points! He runs to the second station, throws his first ball there and it hits the inner ring! 2 points! His second throw is on its way....inner ring again! 2 more points! He makes his way to the third station, fires off the first ball, and oooh he misses the target, minus one! He collects himself, throws his second, and it hits the outer ring, which is good for 1 more point! Now he runs over to station four, picks up the ball, fires off his left foot on the run, and he hits the target, but no rings! 0 points! Joliet finishes with a time of 11.99 seconds and 12 total points. We will have to wait and see where that lands him! But for Bennett, that may have just sealed his fate to not win this competition.
We have just gotten word from the medical tent that Chris Orosz has been cleared and he will appear next! And here he comes jogging out of the tent and the crowd stands for a round of applause. He motions a thank you to the crowd and then asks them to settle down as he settles into station one. He takes a deep breath just as the *whistle blows*. HERE WE GO! He fires the first ball and hits the target, but for no points. It looks like he has some rust to knock off. He throws the second ball and hits the inner ring! 2 points! He runs to the next station, throws his first ball, and hits the outer ring, 1 point! His second ball is away quickly and he hits the outer ring again, 1 more point! He makes his way to the third station, fires away and hits the inner ring! 2 points! His second ball is away and he hits the inner ring again! 2 more points! He quickly runs to station four, picks up the ball, throws on the run and he hits the outer rings, worth 1 more point! He clocks in at 13.28 seconds, and notches 9 points, which puts him into third place. A fine showing for the man with the shoulder injury.
Up fourth will be Zenyou Wozy as he takes the field now. He places his hand on his first ball, takes a quick look around and *whistle blows*, he throws his first ball, and he hits the bullseye! That is good for 4 points! His second throw hits the inner ring and he gets 2 more points! Wozy starts hot! His first ball at the second station is away and he hits the bullseye again! 4 more points! His second throw hits the outer ring! 1 point! He hurriedly makes his way to the third station and throws his first ball....inner ring! 2 points! His second throw is way and hits the outer ring! 1 more point! He is quick on his feet again and runs to the fourth station, picks up the ball, shoots off his pass off his back leg and hits the outer ring! 1 more point for Wozy. A great round! We look for his official time and he comes in at an acceptable time of 12.08, JUST a tad bit slower than Christs time of 11.99!
Now its time for our fifth and final competitor in this challenge, Ms. Adriana Falconi. She will need to put together a strong run here if she wants any shot at taking home the title. I think she knows the pressure is on her as she looks slightly nervous as she approaches the first station. She closes her eyes momentarily, takes a long, deep breath, *whistle blows* and is immediately sprung to action! She throws her first ball, inner ring! 2 points! She throws her second ball...bullseye! 4 points! A fantastic start for Adriana! She makes her way to the second station, fires away the first ball and she just barely hits the outer ring, 1 point! Her second ball is away quickly and this one hits the inner ring! 2 points! Shes burning the field as she runs to the third station, she fires the first ball and hits the inner ring worth 2 points! She snaps off the second ball and it misses the target badly, wide left! That is going to cost her 1 crucial point. She is quickly over to station 4, makes her pass on the fly and badly misses the target again and that will cost her another point! Her official time comes in at 10.87, a full second better than Christ, which will land her 5 points there, but those two misses might cost her a shot at the title!
The final tallies are in for the ON THE FLY CHALLENGE, and Zenyou Wozy is the winner with 18 points! The 5 total points for that will go a long way in the final overall tally.
Chris Orosz: 10 Points (1)
Adriana Falconi: 14 Points (3)
Joliet L. Christ: 16 Points (4)
Zenyou Wozy: 18 points (5)
Chris Bennett: 12 Points (2)
AND THAT MEANS THAT....DRUMROLL PLEASE....
ZENYOU WOZY IS YOUR QUARTERBACK CHALLENGE WINNER WITH 20 TOTAL POINTS!
FINAL STANDINGS
Chris Orosz: 16
Adriana FalconI: 16
Joliet L. Christ: 13
