San Antonio, Texas
The San Antonio Marshals season opener occurs tonight as they take on the Palm Beach Solar Bears in what will be an epic match up before heading to Kansas City to face off against the Coyotes. Both games will be a challenge for the young squad that is standing behind a very fresh faced quarterback in rookie sensation Zenyou Wozy. Critics are questioning if Wozy will be able to play up to the standard of other quarterbacks in the DSFL in his first season, but the management in San Antonio has assured their fans that their won't be any issues.
"Wozy is a class act." Spoke GM Guillermo Ramero over the weekend leading up to tonight's game. "He's going to be a very important part of our game even as a rookie quarterback. Teams shouldn't expect us to just run the ball constantly because we have Marquise [Brown], we're going to utilize some of our other options such as Adam [Krossman] and Emilia [Rudd] who are both elite new receiving targets alongside Blake [Marchand] and Jai [Turner]."
The Marshals offense is a completely new unit from where it stood last year where it primarily focused on a mixture of running and passing, using both veteran receiver Footballer Catcherman, and rookie running back phenomenon Marquise Brown. Now though, with the loss of Catcherman at wide out and the addition of a receiving back in Adam Krossman and tight end in Emilia Rudd (both out of Michigan State), the team's offense is still looking like a formidable passing unit. Don't overlook Brown though, as he's looking for vengeance after missing out on his chance at an Ultimini.
On the defensive side of the ball the Marshals are putting forward another strong unit like they did last year but with a few notable holes. Roster eligibility meant that a number of the Marshals front seven players have run out of eligibility, but the team has addressed this issue by picking up defensive end Odell Marrett, linebacker Dick Cheese, and by bringing back safety Nate Piazza in the draft. These three player will all be looking to make strong impacts in their rookie season. Cheese is expected to play alongside returning star linebacker Jesse Marchand this season, who lead the DSFL in tackles as a rookie while also posting some strong numbers in TFL's, Sacks, and PD's. The Marshals pass defense unit continues to be strong with Egan Winter and Storm Woods and the new addition of recently traded for corner back Danny Vranos. The Marshals finish up their defensive build by acquiring Omar Wrong in the same trade as Vranos as well as signing on two free agents in Dylan and William Marshall who are DE and LB respectively.
All in all, this first week is looking like a hard fought battle for each match up in the DSFL, but the Marshals taking on the Solar Bears is definitely the one to watch. You can hear live commentary at radio station, Marshals Corner 93.4 where we will be doing live analysis of each player as they are introduced. See you on the field!
