Continuing the series time has come for the most glamorous and most stacked position in the league, but is it really still the case? Let's see!
Plan of releases:
1. 8/14 - K/P
2. 8/15 - QB
3. 8/15 - RB
4. 8/16 - DE/DE
5. 8/16 - LB
6. 8/17 - S
7. 8/17 - CB
8. 8/18 - WR/TE
9. 8/18 - League-wide picture and further analysis
All values used were based on the last update of the regular season (not the playoffs one, to give all teams equal chance). Quite possible this will become a seasonal thing if there will be interest in it.
A. Current Overview
1. [S2] - Avon Blocksdale 1021 TPE
2. [S1] - Mat Akselsen 965 TPE
3. [S6] - Borkus Maximus III 868 TPE
4. [S7] - Ryan Applehort 665 TPE
5. [S8] - Brad Pennington 527 TPE
6. [S1] - Mike Boss 525 TPE
7. [S9] - Kevin Fitzpatrick 386 TPE
8. [S9] - Gus T.T. Showbiz 313 TPE
9. [S1] - Logan Noble 248 TPE
That's an entirely different landscape than the previous position we talked about. We still have 4 S1-S2 QBs that played last season but as soon as next none of them will be on Top and only two of them may be playing after S11 - Avon Blocksdale and Mat Akselsen.
There is also a very promising change of guard - 4 franchise players already in the league one each from S6 Borkus Maximus III, S7 Ryan Applehort, S8 Brad Pennington, S9 Kevin Fitzpatrick and soon to be joined by number 8 on the list - S9 Gus T.T. Showbiz, who will replace Mike Boss that played his final game in ASFC finals two days ago. Noble may be playing next season for his final rendezvous but with so many good prospects (more about them in next section) in the upcoming draft, I doubt that.
Blue - Sum of TPE in that regression class, red - a number of players, yellow - average TPE in that class.
What is quite interesting is lack of any S3-S5 QBs I think some of that might be due to OL player from S1-S2 switching to QBs and filling that need for quite some time, but now with them fading back due to father time (3 S1-S2 franchise players already retired - Bronko, Boss, Oles), we can see position being popular once again.
B. Team Needs and Prospects Breakdown
Each team will receive a current grade (1-10 scale), based on average TPE of players manning the position (1 - ~50 TPE, 2 ~100 TPE, 3 ~200 TPE). Next grade - future grade - is more subjective since I also tried to estimate regression impact and current prospects in the system - 10 would mean a team has a serviceable player that could last up to 8 more seasons in that position, whole 1 means they have to draft/sign a player asap in that position. It's obviously a bit more complicated since activity also matters here and the more base TPE player currently has the longer he can fight regression.
Current Grade / Future Grade
10/9
10/4
10/3
8/8
6/8
5/7
4/6
2/1
Just a reminder I factor heavily already earned TPE into equation, obviously neither Outlaws or Otters should look to draft another QB this draft, even though they don't have top future grade - a lot of things happen that may get player inactive and it's better to have high developed player in that situation already.
Prospects Watch (S9-S11 players):
1. [S9] - Kevin Fitzpatrick 386 TPE
2. [S9] - Gus T.T. Showbiz 313 TPE
3. [S10] - Adriana Falconi 216 TPE
4. [S10] - Joliet L. Christ 204 TPE
5. [S9] - Andreas Metaxas 185 TPE
6. [S10] - Zenyou Wozy 146 TPE
The list of prospects is looking great. Fitzpatrick already has a rookie season under his belt and Showbiz will soon join him. Metaxas is developing at his own pace and it's quite probable he will take over from Akselsen at some point, though with Quarterback always being manned by top earners questions remains if Wraiths won't be trying to acquire another good prospect at this position.
This leads us to how good S10 Draft looks in terms of QB prospects. Two already franchise caliber looking players in Falconi and Christ. Wozy, who if anything is dependable and small TPE difference shouldn't make him any less more desirable in this draft. So we have 5 teams that have the long-term solution in place: NOLA, COL, SJS, ARI, OCO I expect Liberty, Hawks, and to lesser extent Wraiths to make a play and acquire one of those QB prospects unless some other teams will try to make a power play in the draft.
And to wrap this up quick values showing how many TPE you need to break into any NSFL team roster, how many decent NSFL players are on the team rosters currently and how many good prospects are in the pipeline.
TPE to break into the NSFL Roster: 250
Current NSFL ready (250+) players: 7
Prospects (S8 200+ TPE, S9 150+, S10 100+): 7 - 3 of those are already in the NSFL ready tier
