DT: AJ Lattimer: Orange County Otters: 8th Overall
From the 8th round to 8th overall- AJ Lattimer's meteoric rise up the draft board made him the first Python of the board. Some may criticize this pick saying "defensive tackles aren't important enough to warrant a first round pick." or "Lattimer's TPE is low compares to those taken around him." Both Orange County GMs reside in the Portland Locker room. They have been around Lattimer all season long. They've seen the work he's been putting in, and they know he was the guy to grab at 8th.
On the field, OCO is getting a guy that will be a force in the trenches. Lattimer has spent a lot of time in the gym, making him one of the strongest guys in the draft. Collapsing the pocket to allow his teammates to get to the quarterbacks is his specialty. While his DSFL stats weren't impressive, I expect him to be a staple of the OCO defense for seasons to come.
S: Richard D'Attoria V: Philadelphia Liberty: 9th Overall
The drafting of Lattimer near the end of the first round openwd the floodgates. His teammate Richard D'Attoria was drafted immediately thereafter. Getting an established locker room presence and a hardworker at the safety position to pair with eventual second round pick Emondov Emoji gives the Liberty a strong defensive backfield that will be snagging picks for the next 8-10 seasons. D'Attoria was an absolute steal in the 3rd round of the DSFL draft. Will the teams that made the 8 previous picks be kicking themselves for passing on him?
On the field, D'Attoria flashed some unique ability in the DSFL. He used his pure speed to find the QB 7 times. His speed must have had him hitting people before they were expecting it. For someone without to much strength, he was still able to force 2 fumbles and recover 3 of them. D'Attoria spent much of his time in the box leading to him having only 1 interception. RDA5 has all the tools to be a top safety in the league. I'm excited to see how he puts it together.
CB: Xerxes Ridley: Chicago Butchers: 16th Overall
The Butchers looked defense with both of their top two picks in this draft. As an expansion team, they hoped to find the future faces of their franchise. With Xerxes Ridley, I believe they have done just that. His fiery competitiveness on the field, combined with his exceptional poise when handling the media off the field make him someone fans can really get behind.
Ridley's DSFL stats don't jump off the page at you. His 50 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 11 passes defended, and 1 pick don't seem like much. That can easily be explained with 1 phrase. Cornerbacks don't get stats. Ridley did his job on the very good Pythons defense. He will do the same in Chicago.
LB: Lanzer Grievous: Orange Country Otters: 18th Overall
You'll begin to see a trend here. Time and again, Orange County walked up to the podium; and time and again, they picked Pythons. After picking up a guy many didn't quite see as first round talent in AJ Lattimer, they came back to Portland to draft Lanzer Grievous. While he may have been seen as more of a potential first rounder, Orange County was able to grab 2 elite defensive prospects with picks 8 and 18.
Stop me if you've heard this before, or maybe don't because you'll hear it again. Lanzer is fast. He also possesses very good hands for a linebacker. His speed and hands need to be good enough, because they cannot get any better. He was able to notch an impressive 92 tackles. Getting any tackles around Leighton Lee is something special. He was another Python that was skilled at forcing fumbles (3). Overall he's the kinda guy you want on your front seven.
CB: Emondov Emoji: Philadelphia Liberty: 19th Overall
The fans of the Liberty (all 2 of them) have had their eyes on the Emoji kid ever since he graduated from college. Emoji clicked with the Liberty GM as soon as they met. Emoji didn't disappoint in the DSFL; teammates will attest to the fact that he was a great guy to have around. Not surprisingly for a guy as hyped as Emoji, he was pretty good at football as well.
Emoji had about as much straight line speed as anyone in the league. He was another guy who maybe didn't put up incredible interception numbers or anything at the DSFL level, but was a big part of Portland's defense that allowed less than 160 passing yards per game. The Liberty should be happy with their pick here. (Rephrase that, they'd better be happy because they didn't have much of a choice).
QB: Franklin Armstrong: Orange County Otters: 28th Overall
While I think many were suprised he fell so far, the biggest surprise to me is that he was drafted by OCO. I think NOLA and COL both had their QB in the draft, and were prepared to wait as long as possible to draft them. Spec and OCO had other ideas. Whether or not they drafted Armstrong with the sole purpose of throwing off NOLA/COL's draft plans I do not know. But Colorado was forced to make a trade to secure the QB they were looking at all along. Is Armstrong in OCO's plans long term? Again I'm not sure. Whatever the reason, I like the Otter's Armstrong pick.
Whichever team that gets Armstrong long term is getting a good one. He is constantly on the field working to improve. The DSFL MVP brings a balanced arsenal of accuracy, and arm strength, along with the crucial ability to think the game. Obviously he's still developing, he's got a long way to go before he's NSFL ready, but I believe he will get there.
K: Alex Dasistwirklichseinnachname: Orange County Otters: 42nd Overall
Who would have guessed? When Orange County came up at 42, they looked to the best Python left on the board. Kicker was a big need for OCO, and Alex D is a big name to fill that need. Finding guys that actually seem to enjoy playing the kicker position is rare, but Alex seems to be one of them.
Orange County is getting a guy who was absolute money. He made 21/23 of his field goal attempts. Sidenote, only 2 attempts came from inside the 30. Hitting 11/12 from beyond the 40 is a big reason he was voted DSFL Kicker of the Year. Alex is going to go up right away and impact the game. I can't wait to see it.
DE: Frasier Crane: Colorado Yeti: 52nd Overalll.
Frasier Crane showed a lot of potential, leading to his being drafted in the 4th round by Kansas City. Portland knew they were getting a great player when they made the midseason trade to acquire him. Alas, his exceptional potential has not shown itself. Crane is represented by an agent well known across many leagues. If he remembers the poor D-lineman he has forgotten, this is a great pick for Colorado.
If they call him up, which sadly it appears they will, they are getting a decent all around lineman. His speed and strength are good not great, and his DSFL stats were nothing great. He has barely enough TPE to hang around the NSFL for some time though.
RB: RKANSAW N/A: Orange County Otters: 58th Overall
Guess what? Orange County drafted another Python. RKANSAW could become a great pick if he could ever fully commit to the league. He has not entirely neglected his training regimen. His training schedule is just not at predictable as one would like.
His on field production in the DSFL is lessened by his being apart of the 4 headed monster. Still he managed to lead the team is yards with 890, and he contributed 6 touchdowns. Punt returning is another area that allowed RKANSAW to shine. He added 245 yards that way. Of course, his strength is elite DSFL speed, but he would struggle at the NSFL level.
RB: Tyler Janes: San Jose Sabercats: 60th Overall
Another running back comes off the board. The Ultimus Champions grab a sleeper pick from the Ultimini Champs. Tyler Janes hasn't shown to much yet, but is a guy I could definitely see coming back and filling a Devo Casino type role. In the DSFL, Janes added 500+ rushing yards to Portland's potent offense.
RB: Kermit Stronglegs: Arizona Outlaws: 61st Overall
The 3rd Portland running back taken in 4 picks was Kermit Stronglegs. This young frog show Portland enough to be drafted 9th overall in the DSFL draft. He still hops into the Portland locker room from time to time, giving hope that he may one day fulfill his 2nd round potential. Kermit made the most of his DSFL carries. He ran for almost 500 yards on 5.4 yards per carry on his way to 4 touchdowns.
(Note: at this point writing to many words about these guys is starting to feel pointless. Ok continuing on...).
CB: Justin Tyme: Philadelphia Liberty: 69th Overall
Justin Tyme occasionally shows up to Python team meetings. Unfortunately whenever the topic of practice is brought up, he disappears. Maybe the Liberty will be able to tap into his potential.
WR: Deshawn Jackson: Arizona Outlaws: 70th Overall
Nothing to say about this guy. He caught a couple passes from Armstrong. That's something I guess.
S: Tigole Bitties: Philadelphia Liberty: 79th Overall
An agent with connections in other leagues, but unfortunately he seems to be focused on his other clients. This is like the 4th Python DB Philly has taken.
S: Avery Thomas: Chicago Butchers: 76th Overall
It's weird that these professional athletes occasionally forget they are professional athletes. Maybe a message to remind him he exists might work?
OL: Gregor Clegain: Philadelphia Liberty: 92nd Overall
Meh
LB: Pablo Sanchez: Orange County Otters: 98th Overall
The backyard goat has largely been a failure when it comes to the professional level. His PBE career was nothing special and it appears his NSFL career will go the same route. Orange County back with another Snek pick tho....
LB: CrayCray Lewis: San Jose Sabercats: 100th Overall
This guy receives the distinction of 100 overall. He also got a DSFL DPotg once... That's something I guess.
CB: Taters Johnson: Arizona Outlaws: 131st Overall.
Mr Irrelevant!!!
Shoutout to Lightsout Lewis for kinda being a Python and going first round. To tired to write another couple paragrahs about him.
