A Story of the Best Kicker - Lefty Louis
Lefty Louis was born to Michael & Cassie Louis in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The young chap grew up playing three main sports. He was a member of the Southwest Wild SC, a premier soccer club in the southwest of Ontario. He also played both box lacrosse and football for the Windsor Wings Athletic Club. The Wings provided young Lefty with the opportunity to learn the game and by the time he turned 12 he needed a new challenge. Lefty left the Wings and turned towards a program just outside of Toronto in Hamilton called the T-Cats Express. Lefty was dominate as a running back and all signs were leading to him developing and becoming a Canadian college football star. However, Michael had other hopes for his son Lefty and they moved across the border to a neighborhood south of Detroit called River Rouge. There Lefty would make the freshman football team at River Rouge HS; however, these guys were very good and he couldn’t keep up. Lefty switched to be the kicker for the freshman team since he knew he had the ability after playing for Southwest Wild SC his whole life. By his sophomore year he had already developed into an elite HS kicker and was on varsity for one of the best teams in the state. He went on to kick the game winning field goal in the state finals both his junior and senior years.
Lefty went to the University of Washington for his college studies. Louis was going to be second fiddle to an outstanding kicker his freshman year so he redshirted. Instead of just partying all year, Louis was determined to up his game and trained with both the football and soccer teams. The soccer training was a great way to work on his leg strength but also to keep the ability of accurate kicks, as his leg grew heavier. Lefty’s hard work during his redshirt year is what he credits his success to be from. After a year of hard work it was Lefty’s time to show the world who he was as he took over as the starting kicker at just a redshirt-freshman. The Huskies were predicted to win the conference title so the pressure was on. Louis was battle tested due to his time at River Rouge in Michigan. Louis strived throughout the season hitting 23 of his 24 attempted field goals on the year with a perfect PAT record. However, the Huskies fell short in the conference finals against an upstart UCLA program. The defeat was not due to Lefty; however, Louis was a man possess and wanted to develop even more. Lefty started kicking even longer field goals consistently. He was predicted to be the best kicker in all of college football during his redshirt-sophomore year and he was just that! He was dominant kicking and the Huskies were a top team. An early loss to Playoff contenders Florida put the Huskies on the back foot. The Huskies were on the outside of playoffs after losing to UCLA in conference play as well. This time the Huskies did win the conference title though as a chip shot field goal from Louis in overtime saw Washington to their revenge of UCLA, giving them their only loss on the season. The committee saw Washington as the 5th best team and thus did not make the playoffs. Louis' draft stock was high after this season and in a shocking move, he decided to leave college early, a move you don't see many kickers make.
Now Lefty Louis sits and waits at his home in River Rouge to see where he will end up in the DSFL to develop even more. Lefty has proven time and time again that he has the grit and determination to make it. Lefty has started a campaign to raise awareness of who he is. He has been going around everywhere calling himself the best kicker in hopes to raise his draft stock and to prove to gm’s that he is destined to be just that. I would be shocked to see the Canada native not come away with a title. Louis has been talking to Franklin Armstrong, an NSFL star, who is also from Canada. Lefty is hoping that through Franklin’s mentoring he will be able to be another major bright spot for the country from the north. His parents’ are very proud of where Lefty has taken his life and Mike is proud to say he left his home to further his son’s ability to grow & develop. Cassie is really happy that everything worked out because she wasn’t super excited about moving to the United States. Lefty is super glad he was provided the opportunity but he won’t forget to represent Canada while in the DSFL & NSFL. If he is drafted to Minnesota he would actually be living much farther north than his home town of Windsor, Canada again. But if he is drafted to another team we will see how Lefty will fair in a different climate since River Rouge, Michigan is the farthest south he’s ever lived.
