As someone who has been around this league since Season 2 and has seen pretty much every scandal under the sun that has happened here, I was surprised to find out about Bex and the recent events around her. I didn’t know much about her, I drifted away from the league for a while, which was the time in which she came into the league and started her commitment to the league. With that being said, should she go back to being Commissioner? Before I tell you my thoughts and how I would vote if I had one, let’s take a look at some other situations.
Swagsloth
The first situation I want to talk about is one I had forgotten about before today. Swagsloth was a model member of the league for a while, and then one day he makes the decision to create a multi. No one would have expected Swag to do this, and I know I didn’t expect it when he came to HO about having a multi. The punishment came down quickly and everyone except for Swag thought it was harsh when no harm was ever done because of the multi. Swag to me is one of the best examples of what someone like Bex could turn out as. Swag never meant to harm the league, he was curious about multis and when he realized it was wrong, he decided to do what he believed was right and take responsibility for his actions. Swag has been one of the best users in the NSFL since this situation happened, and it is clearly an anomaly for him.
Noble
This is the opposite of Swag. Noble was constantly causing trouble and issues in this league and has many different punishments and bans in his time with the NSFL. Noble seemed to be doing what was best for the league, and as the PPT head way back in the early seasons, he seemed like a model citizen in the NSFL community. That was true until it was found that he was cheating TPE for himself, it was found that he cheated 73 TPE as his time holding the PPT Head job. You might ask, how would he be able to cheat TPE, isn’t it checked? Well, way back then that notification at the bottom of your post showing the last edited time, it wasn’t implemented yet. Noble was able to do it unchecked for a while because people didn’t notice and that message never appeared, so Noble was able to be a max earner even though he wasn’t doing his work on time and wasn’t doing the necessary work for the TPE he earned. After this punishment, Noble had many more punishments happen, whether it was pens, or any of the other situations, he couldn’t keep his head out of trouble and now he’s banned from the league for good. He was a bad user for most of his time in the NSFL, and in other sim leagues, so it was hard to ever trust him especially after his first punishment.
Bex
So, with two very different situations that I’ve shown, now it’s time to get to what has come to light with Bex over the past week or so. First off is the Bex shit-talking situation. To me, the stuff that came to light (I never saw it, but I understand the gist of the situation) should have never come to light. I know what it’s like to shit talk people, and I’ve experienced a joke being leaked and being in the same situation as Bex was. I know what it’s like to be harassed by someone, so I know how shitty it can feel. I don’t think the situation called for an apology from Bex honestly, we all will talk shit about others from time to time, and I understand feeling hurt by what she said, especially when it’s someone you consider a friend, but we all need to be able to vent and get our frustration out. She decided to apologize though, she took responsibility for her actions and to me that should be the end of it for her on those posts, they never should’ve been revealed but she took the high road and didn’t back down from what she said. As for the tampering and deletion of messages, that’s where it gets murky. I’m still unsure of the situation around it and even what some of the stuff means, I just know that she did something wrong that she definitely shouldn’t have done. We’ve all been there; we’ve all done stuff we shouldn’t have. I’m not saying she gets a pass for it, but to me, I think she should stay as commissioner. I understand if you might not trust her after the tampering situation, after the shit talking situation, but she has shown that she wants what’s best for the league. It will take time to rebuild the trust you should have with someone in that position, but she has not made a habit out of breaking rules, and even if you are hurt that someone who seems nice would talk bad about people when needing to vent, we have to look at all of her resume, not just the bad.
If I had a vote when it comes time to decide on if she should stay, I’d vote yes, I’d vote in the hopes that she turns out like Swagsloth did, with the optimism that she understands what she did was wrong and that the punishment was necessary, and the optimism that we can move past it and work towards a better league. We all want the league to do well, and I’ve been a part of this league and put in way too much time to see it in shambles over one mistake by the commissioner when there have been much bigger scandals. The NSFL was able to move past multis that changed the shape of the league in its early days, it was able to move past the time where we were struggling to recruit and had classes in which the second round draft pick was an inactive, and we’ll be able to move past the commissioner making a mistake. She deserves a second chance, she hasn’t shown that she’ll throw that chance away, and I’m all for benefit of the doubt at this point.
