A routine run down the sideline may have been the nucleus of a feud which seems to have exploded over the last few weeks.
Late in the third quarter Skuff took a pitch, running out of bounds for a short gain. Linebacker Shepherd Marshall, a newcomer to the Seawolves who at the time hadn't yet factored into the rotation, was standing around the point that Skuff stepped out, and while there is some controversy over what happened next, at the very least Marshall made no effort to get out of the way. Some witnesses claim he wasn't paying attention, while Grey Duck players maintain he saw Skuff coming and extended his arm.
Skuff popped back up immediately and sent Marshall backward with a shove. Marshall's teammates prevented him from retaliating while two of Skuff's offensive linemen dragged him away. The referees quickly descended to prevent the situation from devolving to chaos and in the end decided against any penalties.
"He clotheslined me!" Skuff yelled in an on-field interview after the game, still needing to be restrained when Marshall walked past and blew him a kiss. "That son of a gun clotheslined me on the sideline! He's dirty! I was just makin' a football play, running down the sideline. That's dirty!" Skuff made a popularly understood gesture toward Shepherd which almost led to another scuffle, but the teams again helped separate their players.
When reached out to for a quote at the post game presser all Marshall had to say was "Mess with the Seawolf, get the fangs."
The two teams will meet again in the regular season finale. With Skuff taking over as starting fullback and Marshall breaking into the rotation at linebacker there is a high likelihood of even more fireworks the second time around.
"I'm lookin' for him every time I'm on the field," Skuff said in a sit down interview last week. "Ain't no going around him, over him, under him, none of that. I'm going straight through him."
Responding to another question, if he would mind being drafted by the same team that took Marshall, Skuff was quoted as saying "I'm not sure if I want to be associated with anyone who would draft someone with such low moral character. But I guess I can run through him in practice just as good as in a game. Might get to hit 'em even more. Just put our lockers real far apart."
