To help supplement a historical S22 draft, Tight End prospect Daniel George presents "Reports from the Farm: S22" which will feature in-depth reports on notable prospects. Today we will be covering some notable prospects for the Wide Reciever position. If you have any thoughts, comments, or suggestions please hit reply or send a direct message. Please make sure to stay posted for more Podcast Transcripts from my show, "Memoirs from the Farm". Please note the opinions expressed in this report are those of Daniel George and do not reflect the true nature, character, or intentions of a player included in the following report. If there are any blatant inaccuracies please send me a direct message and I will resolve any discrepancies as soon as possible. Thanks for your consideration.
Current Wide Reciever draft count: 25 (1 Recreate)
The upcoming S22 draft is seemingly very deep with a wide abundance of offensive talent to chose from. Upon closer examination, one may see that there is, in fact, a shortage of certain player archetypes or roles that could arguably derail an entire offense if left unchecked. It's important for General Manager's with close attention to detail to carefully examine this large class. There needs to be an awareness of their own depth charts combined with a sense of the needs or wants of other DSFL franchises. One position which requires it's own analysis is Wide Reciever. There may be shortages of certain types at this position, similar to the case which we examined in my report on Tight Ends. In that report, we argued that there was a severe shortage of strong, blocking Tight Ends and that even those prospects with the best blocking stats at Tight End were not blockers, they were Balanced Tight Ends. Upon quickly checking the Wide Reciever Prospect list, we only see 8 prospects with 75 Speed or greater out of a class of 25. Only 5 prospects have Hands greater than 71. There are only 2 prospects with Strength above 41. Also similar to the Tight End Position is the fact that there is only 1 recreate who we will be examining on the top of our prospect listing. This begs the question as to how many of these prospects have the dedication and mentation in order to succeed in the DSFL. The use of Social Media is important in this day in age. In the "Money" era of football, it's not necessarily about being the best, winning the most, making the most friends, being the nicest guy, or even the greatest player. It's about making the most money in the shortest amount of time before regression, pain, misery, depression, debt, loneliness, and a misanthropic world view bring you to early retirement. It's sad but true. We can't play forever. While this might not serve a General Manager or cohesive locker-room in any contributive fashion, it's important to consider a player's attention and use of Social Media. It's an underlying factor that may be in indicator of their potential and intangible talent. That being said their Social Media use should be in accordance with league decorum and not serve to undermine the integrity or reputation of the NSFL or DSFL. Below is a list of Wide Receivers with important stats, 3 positive stats, 3 negative stats, and a short summary. The players are listed in no particular order.
Garfield Despacito Jr. - Somewhere in Canada
Height (ft.): 5'11
Weight (lbs.): 185 lbs
Birthplace: New Mexico, USA
Player Archetype: Speed Receiver
Speed: 77
Agility: 70
Endurance: 60
---
Hands: 60
Intelligence: 40
Strength: 25
Rumblings of a Despacito returning to the league hit Social Media when Garfield Despactio Jr. announced his intention to declare for the DSFL Draft. "ok, kinda epic" "You look familiar" "He returns" and other mutterings marked the reputation earned by Garfield Despacito Sr. - the offensive lineman who announced his retirement in February of this year. His claim to be the first receiver off the board is undoubtedly his Speed which will likely top the class and combine. His Wide Reciever coach at Somewhere in Canada is quoted as saying, "One of the best builds you'll see in a long time, elite speed, decent agility, he'll be a WR1 before too long." Another Special Teams coach was critical, saying Despacito Jr. was, "Totally unlike Despacito Sr. he has little to no Strength. You'll never see this kid in the weight room. I think a strong breeze might knock him over. That's what happens when you're born with a silver spoon in your mouth I guess." Regardless of these accusations, Despacito Jr. will likely be the first Wide Reciever off the board due to his high Speed, draft pedigree, and respect his name delivers.
Mike Lee - Texas
Height (ft.): 6'3"
Weight (lbs.): 225lbs
Birthplace: Texas
Player Archetype: Speed Receiver
Speed: 80
Agility: 65
Endurance: 60
---
Hands: 55
Intelligence: 40
Strength: 25
"Don't ask Mike Lee about his hands," one Scout told us, "Just don't." This may be related to an alleged incident after a Texas vs. Oklahoma game where Mike Lee supposedly broke several people's hands before the mob returned with golf clubs and hammers, injuring both of the star receiver's carpal, radial, and ulna bones. Lee has been responding to any mention of this incident by calling his apparent injuries, "a training accident" but it has followed his reputation. One Texas coach confined, "I'm not sure what happened at any bar. One day his hands were crispy. The next he was dropping good balls. His legs picked up the slack and the rest is history." In spite of this incident, Mike Lee enters the draft with elite speed, a high ceiling, and good agility. Lee has been noted to have a good focus and sharp attention to detail in the weeks leading up to the draft. He should fit in nicely into a DSFL wide receiver core and is likely already being scouted by NSFL teams.
Kevin Koe - LSU
Height (ft.): 5'10"
Weight (lbs.): 185 lbs
Birthplace: Singapore, Singapore
Player Archetype: Route Runner
Agility: 70
Hands: 70
Speed: 70
---
Endurance: 70
Intelligence: 50
Strength: 30
Kevin Koe should not be confused with a koi fish since the swimming pool was where he acquired his balance of speed and endurance. After moving to America in his teenage years, Koe was able to develop his game into a well balanced Route Runner. Lacking in a traditional football background, Koe may end up on the wrong side of a test of Strength on the grid-iron. He is not the largest receiver and may be bullied by Linebackers. Despite being a two-way athlete, Koe has struggled with blockers in the past, especially those who are able to deliver blocks at the second level. He's also been known to misassignments and motions in the past, being cited as expressing frustration with complicated offensive schemes. Despite this, Koe offers General Managers a good balance and a solid base to develop into a regular slot receiver. Koe shows potential but will take time to develop his Speed and Endurance.
Tan Johnson - Alabama
Height (ft.): 6'3
Weight (lbs.): 205lbs
Birthplace: Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Player Archetype: Possession Receiver
Endurance: 70
Hands: 70
Speed: 70
---
Agility: 70
Intelligence: 50
Strength: 35
Tan Johnson is an interesting and well-balanced prospect coming out of Alabama. His size, hands, and all-around abilities have given him all the tools needed to succeed. His role may be somewhat limited due to a relatively low speed compared to other Wide Reciever prospects. Once he does get his hands on the ball, Johnson's stride and vision give him lots of chances for Yards After Catch. While low compared to most players, Tan also has above average strength for a Wide Reciever. If put into the correct system with a good quarterback and good blocking from offensive linemen, Johnson may prosper on the right team.
Susan Cash Jr. - Colorado State University
Height (ft.): 6'1
Weight (lbs.): 200 lbs
Birthplace: San Francisco, California
Player Archetype: Possession Receiver
Hands: 70
Endurance: 70
Speed: 70
---
Agility: 60
Intelligence: 55
Strength: 45
If there's one attribute Susan Cash Jr. does not lack it is confidence. After a great senior season playing for the Rams, Cash Jr. is ready to emerge as a DSFL Wide Reciever capable of getting additional yards downfield using his above-average Strength and a good balance of Speed, Endurance and Hands. Known as a sober, chess-player "nerd", Cash Jr. has made mistakes before on the field. Despite his wide range of attributes, one criticism of Cash Jr. has been his lack of any meaningful trait which puts in above and beyond the rest of his class. This may be due to his increased time in the weight room, it could cause him to fall down draft boards. While Cash Jr. has been quiet on Social Media, he's approachable and is well-spoken. With the right coaching, Cash Jr. could turn into a dependable and reliable option at slot receiver.
Eddie Jeeta - University of Florida
Height (ft.): 6'1" (185 cm)
Weight (lbs.): 185lbs (13.21 stone)
Birthplace: Watford (UK)
Player Archetype: Route Runner
Agility: 70
Hands: 70
Speed: 70
---
Endurance: 65
Intelligence: 55
Strength: 30
Otherwise known as the "Quirky Turtle", Eddie Jeeta is poised to earn a roster spot very quickly after the DSFL draft concludes. Coming over from the United Kingdom to play college football at the University of Florida, Jeeta had to lean heavily on the training staff to develop his game while correcting some mistakes in his fundamentals. While he has developed into a good, all-around player, Jeeta lacks a major skill or trait while makes him elite. His endurance is solid however he's been noted to sometimes fade in the fourth quarter. Jeeta can struggle with physical cornerbacks and motion routes. Eddie is active on Social Media however but at times has been known to lapse in posting and having a strong presence online. He has a positive community presence and is likely to be well accepted within a locker-room. Jeeta's recent lapse may be due to his well-noted focus and determination in the weeks leading up to the DSFL draft. Time will tell if the "Turtle Club" will expand to include many fans across the league.
William Alexander - Oregon State
Height (ft.): 6'4"
Weight (lbs.): 240lbs
Birthplace: Denver, Colorado
Player Archetype: Red Zone Threat
Speed: 70
Hands: 70
Endurance: 65
---
Agility: 60
Strength: 50
Intelligence: 45
While known as a gentleman and a scholar within his community for his positive work with children, in particular the promotion of proper nutrition in schools, Alexander can be an absolute bully on the field. In a draft class with a particularly scrappy and potentially elite selection of Cornerback's, a DSFL General Manager may be well suited circling this name on their Wide Reciever lists. Known for drinking a carton of milk after hitting the weight room, Alexander is by far the strongest Wide Reciever in this class and could even potentially see reps at Tight End. He could fit in well with the Minnesota Grey Ducks (sticking with the Duck Theme here) and Alexander will require good Quarterback play to excel. Matching him with a large Tight End in this class could spell trouble for smaller secondary's across the DSFL. While his dedication has been in question before, Alexander has true WR1 potential.
Thomas Passmann - Hogwarts School of Magic
Height (ft.): 6'3"
Weight (lbs.): 217
Birthplace: Tanzania
Player Archetype: Speed Receiver
Speed: 80
Agility: 65
Endurance: 60
---
Hands: 55
Intelligence: 40
Strength: 25
Despite having great size, strength, and speed at a young age, Thomas Passmann could not pass the rumors regarding his Satanic worship and possible hard-drug use. Having been accepted to Hogwarts School of Magic, Passmann accelerated in a learning environment and football scheme that not only catered to his personality but also to his developing athletic prowess. Despite reports of the discovery of a shrine to now deceased Yellowknife Wraith player Tommy Helanen in his locker-room, Passmann was encouraged, "to be his spooky self" as his coach once said. Due to this Passmann has been strong with the media attention and extra spotlight of playing at Hogwarts. While his Satanic tendencies may turn off some of the DSFL team located in the bible-belt, there's no denying Passmann has the potential to turn into a star wide receiver. Teams that draft this player best have a plan to wash goat blood from their locker room floors.
Curious George - Standford
Height (ft.): 6'3"
Weight (lbs.): 185lbs
Birthplace: San Francisco, CA
Player Archetype: Possession Receiver
Hands: 74
Speed: 70
Endurance: 65
---
Agility: 65
Intelligence: 50
Strength: 35
Having some of the best banana hands in the game, Curious George took a curious path to the draft. After a daring escape from Standford labs following genetic experiments, George made a deal with the dean and campus security to plan football instead of facing euthanization. While he has no relationship to fellow S22 alumni Tight End prospect Daniel George, this George does also have one of the largest frames in his class standing at 6'6'', much taller than he was in the children's books. Being from a different species, George is not without his shortcomings. He has no Social Media, no written history, and can be enigmatic in the locker room. He's been known to break fingers, bite ears, and steal lunches from his team-mates, "It was a constant hassle" one Standford assistant states, "You always had to watch out because he would often break fingers while snatching food straight out of your hand." If put onto the right team, Curious George could help a DSFL offense generate points quickly with his paws. There is a chance Curios George commits to an escape again, as his coos and babbles have been interpreted as "he misses home, he misses the jungle" as one wildlife biologist is quoted in a recent press release from Stanford University after he was voted "Most Likely to Play in the NSFL" by his classmates.
---
In closing, there are not that many Wide Receivers with elite Speed or strong Strength related builds in this draft class. What we do have is a wide-range of balanced Wide Receivers, any of whom may turn into good, role players. The top3 receivers should go quickly in this draft, after that there may be a lull in Wide Reciever picks. This is partly due to the depth of the S22 class but it also may be due to a lack of specialized Wide Reciever builds. There are some Tight End prospects who may easily convert to Wide Receiver especially if you consider the lack of heavy-set Tight Ends declaring for the draft. Wide Reciever prospects can be doing more to earn their reputation and rise above the depth of quality defensive talent in this draft. If the linebackers, cornerbacks, and safeties of S22 become elite simply through having a large sample size, it could spell trouble for many of the balanced receivers in this class who lack speed, size, and strength. A General Manager would be well served to pick up at least 1 Wide Reciever in the early rounds to develop. There needs to be careful consideration to the player type and their attributes. This is because some of the more balanced players will take time to develop the high-end speed needed to transition from the DSFL to the NSFL. If put into the right system or given enough time, some of these prospects could develop into elite offensive weapons.
Thanks for your consideration.
