This article will analyse the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers rookie draft as well as these prospects futures in the upcoming NSFL draft including potential options and draft position.
The potential teams are not 100% accurate with the expansion draft still to occur which will have a major impact for all teams.
Let’s run through the Myrtle Beach draft with their potential future laid out. Keep an eye out for comments from the players themselves providing an insiders view into their future in the National Simulation Football League.
Round 1: Johnny Hellzapoppin – Safety – Picked 7th Overall
Johnny was the starting safety for all of Myrtle Beach’s games this year. He was able to rack up 5 sacks, 2 interceptions and 2 pass deflections. He was even able to score a defensive touchdown along the way as well. All in all, Hellzapoppin has had a great rookie season and is one of the most active rookies, already being a part of the sim team.
There are several teams that may be potentially looking at adding a top tier safety such as New Orleans, Arizona or Yellowknife. The expansions teams may be sniffing around as well. Johnny has lived up to his first-round grade and may still keep that tag to his name. A great get for Myrtle Beach and whoever his next team may be. Hellzapoppin may let repeat his appearance in the 1st round of the draft but he may also slip into later rounds, if he is there past round three, it’ll be a steal.
Round 2: Troen Egghands – Defensive End – Picked 15th Overall
Troen was the starting defensive end this season and was able to get 6 sacks on the year and was able to get one safety. He was the leading Buccaneer in the sacks statistic and was only a handful behind the overall leaders in that category. Another extremely active user, Egghands was a great pick from MB.
And now a quick comment from the man himself:
“Given overall draft rumblings, seems like low odds of Austin or Nola since they have higher priority people in early rounds and most mocks have me in the mid-1st to low second. So, taking for granted that steg is first and tesla is second, unless there are trades or Nola is willing to take me before sloth, those two seem unlikely. I've had some of the most detailed conversations with the GMs/scouts for Otters and Liberty, and I figure that Sarasota has a good inkling of what they'd be getting from me due to our game ball late GM wonderful awesome GM frost. I have recruit LR invites from the otters, liberty, yeti, wraiths, marlins sailfish, and copperheads, so there's that. And then my read-on teams with a high need at DE/DL (pre-expansion draft) was Arizona, Austin, and Chicago. Chicago, I think I hold in higher esteem than some members of the league, but with a lack of picks it seems unlikely they'll be able to draft me with how mocks are going. So collectively, it's unclear to me. I think there's a lot of teams that would be interested if I drop to the second round but I'm not sure that I'm the top priority for anyone in the first round given my current impressions.”
Potential squads looking for one of the best DE in the draft include San Jose, Arizona and Philly. Officially, Troen would love to play anywhere. If I had to guess at his potential draft pick spot, I would highly doubt he gets past Philadelphia’s double in the first round. Sitting behind Philly may result in your team not getting Troen.
Round 3: Octavio Clemente – Defensive Tackle – Picked 23rd Overall
Octavio was the second member of the MB defensive line drafted in the most reason DSFL draft. He got 46 tackles on the year with two of those resulting in a loss of yards. He also picked up 2 sacks on the year, which is one of the highest for Defensive tackles, a position which is generally lacking sacks stats.
Defensive tackle is a need for the following teams; Philadelphia Liberty, Yellowknife, Austin, Chicago, Baltimore, Orange County and New Orleans. It is a position that the majority of teams may be interested in potentially leading to Clemente being taken high in the draft due to being one of the highest rated defensive tackle prospects in the draft. My prediction would be that Clemente goes off the board in late round 1 or round 2.
Round 5: Heath Evans – Tight End – Picked 39th Overall
Evans came out of the 5th round in the draft and was one of the major ball catchers for the Buccaneers this season. He got 37 catches and 491 yards on the season. That is 10th overall in receiving yards but he was the highest for tight ends. He also received two touchdown passes on the season. Evans also has the 3rd highest yards per catch on the season for all receivers who got at least 100 yards receiving.
A comment from Evans: “It's hard to say, I've been reached out to by pretty much everyone - OCO would be a good chance if they don't get Phillips, BAL might be next in or YKW/Zona”
Going into the draft, Evans is one of the top tight end prospects on the board, just behind Phillips. Tight End needy teams include Arizona and the Otters as well as Yellowknife. Going into the draft, my projection is that Evans is a 2nd or 3rd round pick going to one of those previously mentioned teams or one of the expansion squads. Another fantastic Myrtle Beach pick who is likely to perform at the next level.
Round 6: Mark Radson – Linebacker – 47th Overall
Radson could be considered the first disappointment for the Myrtle Beach draft but he still played in every game this season racking up a season stat line that included 88 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 forced fumble and fumble recovery, 5 sacks, 1 interception and 9 pass deflections. So his TPE may not be up to the level thought of him but his performance on the field absolutely rocked. He is still active but not in the upper epsilon of Linebacker prospects. Some may say it’s a disappointment but I don’t.
Projected draft location for Radson is anywhere from round 5-7 depending on a variation of things. This may include the other line-backers available, and the depth of other positions. Radson is suited to be a backup and a prospect who will most likely return to Myrtle Beach next season. It is tough to gauge his potential suitors in the draft as at this area in the draft, depth is key, and any team should be looking for it.
Round 7: Jimmy Cooks – Safety – 55th Overall
Cooks only played in 6 games this season and hasn’t been around in over a month. He was still able to get 20 tackles and 2 sacks on the year. The disappearance threw a wrench into the plans of Myrtle Beach who were able to scavenge [pirate words for the win] a safety with position switches and through waivers.
It is hard to determine Cooks projection in the draft as being an inactive, he could go anywhere in the draft. A low TPE and Inactive, there is a greater chance of the San Antonio Marshalls winning the Ultimini than Cooks going in the top 55 of this draft. Whichever team does end up with him, it is incredibly unlikely barring a massive miracle he ever sees the light of the NSFL or the field in the DSFL.
Round 8: Bruce Buckley – Offensive Line – 59th Overall
Buckley started all the games this season at left guard due to the experience Myrtle Beach have at the tackle position in Quaid and Tremblay. He got 34 pancakes on the year and allowed two sacks on the season.
Here is what he has to say:
“I have received interest from a variety of teams including Orange County, Baltimore, Arizona, Yellowknife, Austin, Philadelphia, Colorado, Honolulu and Sarasota. It is really hard to determine which teams are more interested and are willing to draft me. I think I’m willing to go anywhere in that list of teams, for the most part, it doesn’t matter where I end up.”
The landing places for Buckley are wide due to the remarkable information and statistics produced by iStegosaurus which illustrates the usefulness of human offensive lineman in comparison to bots. Buckley’s TPE level is at the point that according to the research, he is better than a bot 3 times his TPE. The lack of offensive lineman in the NSFL leave a lot of starting jobs available for next season. The real question is where in the draft he gets selected, the stock of offensive lineman has been boosted with some commentators potentially talking about first or second round selections. However, the more likely outcome is a 3rd or 4th round pick. The real battle for Buckley is his position in the offensive lineman hierarchy. Where does he fit amongst Dolls, Golladay and Sacamano?
Round 9: Jonathan Altidor – Cornerback – 71st Overall.
Altidor started all 14 games at cornerback this season and racked up the 2nd most tackles for a cornerback in the DSFL. He got 111 tackles as well as one interception and 4 pass deflections. He also got a fumble recovery.
Altidor is in the second tier of cornerback prospects and with it being one of the more important positions, Altidor’s draft stock is an interesting option. He is currently active and despite his low TPE, may be drafted above players in other positions due to being a cornerback. He seems to be a pick of future depth and someone who won’t play right now in the NSFL but may be a quality player in the future. Any team should be looking at him to add to their depth in the cornerback position.
Round 10: Garfield Despacito Jr. – Wide Receiver – 79th Overall
Despacito is in a similar position to Altidor. Both are active prospects who are not in the top tier of their position but can still be promising depth in the present and starters in the future. He only caught 13 balls this year for 147 yards, but he did get 2 touchdowns. Being stuck behind Sabor, Evans and Moore led to this, but it shouldn’t dispel NSFL GM’s from drafting him. An intriguing prospect with the potential to grow. Despacito may be a steal for whatever team he ends up with.
Round 11: Jorcher Minor – Offensive Line – 87th Overall
Minor has not been updating but he is still slightly active being seen in the last week. Pretty much a depth option for teams in the hope he reappears.
Round 12: Kal Solarin – Kicker – 93rd Overall
Kal kicked 32 out of his 33 extra point attempts and went 23 of 29 on field goals. He has landed himself as the 2nd highest rated kicker on the board and is still quite active. Chicago is one of the teams that are in need of a Kicker and may be a potential landing spot for Kal. Draft position is also a question but his ranking in his position may boost him up the boards in comparison to his lower TPE level.
Round 13: Montgomery Mantooth – Tight End – 103rd Overall.
Inactive.
Round 14: Will- Barry Underground – Defensive End – 111th Overall
Inactive.
Round 16: Leeroy Jenkins – Wide Receiver – 127th Overall
Leeroy was a position switch from line-backer to wide receiver and was able to slightly contribute on the field this season. He ended up with 11 receptions on the year with 106 yards on the year. He is a very similar circumstance to Despacito with a similar level of TPE and stats on the season. It could see a mini MB battle between them to see who gets drafted first. Expect to see them both come off the board in around the 7th to 10th round. Any team should be looking at Jenkins, not only for the name but for their future.
Round 17: Brendan Lanier – Safety – 135th Overall
Lanier also switched positions from linebacker to safety to fulfil needs in the Myrtle Beach defence after the disappearance of Jimmy Cooks. He picked up 2 sacks, 2 interceptions and 3 pass deflections on the season. He is an active, low TPE prospect who should be picked up in the 8th to 10th round of the draft.
Round 17: J.B Apollo – Running Back – 136th Overall
Apollo ran for the 4th most rushing yards in the league as the second string in the fearsome Myrtle Beach rushing attack. He finished with 1267 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. Apollo is another active, depth prospect who could go to and fit in on any team’s future.
Round 18: Jimmy Frackerson – Linebacker – 143rd Overall
Frackerson joins the active, low TPE club at linebacker. He was able to reach 3 sacks and 4 pass deflections on the season.
Round 18: Rico Martinez – Cornerback – 144th Overall
Inactive.
Round 19: Silas Meissner – Safety – 151st Overall
Hasn’t updated his player but was recently noted on the forum. An interesting draft position for Silas. Probably the higher end of the ‘Inactives’.
Round 19: Jason Kreuscher – Linebacker – 152nd Overall.
Inactive.
Round 20: Hengwei Luo – Safety – 159th Overall
Inactive.
Round 21: Streetlamp LeMoose – Running back – 167th Overall
Inactive.
Round 22: A-Aron Balake – Safety – 175th Overall
Inactive.
Round 23: Jay Signs – Cornerback – 183rd Overall
Inactive.
Round 24: Matthew Curran – Defensive Tackle – 191st Overall
Inactive.
Round 25: Ike Oscar – Tight End – 199th Overall
Inactive.
Round 26: Denarius Krackle – Defensive Tackle – 207th Overall
Inactive.
Round 27: Bobby Black – Wide Receiver – 215th Overall
Inactive.
Round 28: Patrick Hardy – Safety – 223rd Overall
Inactive.
Round 29: Bryant Moreland – Wide Receiver – 231st Overall
Inactive.
Round 30: Justice Wolfe – Defensive End – 239th Overall
Inactive.
Round 31: Dan Jackson – Safety – 247th Overall
Inactive.
Round 32: Ronan McDonagh – Kicker – 255th Overall
Inactive.
Round 33: Anthony Brewer – Defensive end – 263rd Overall
Did show up at some point.
Round 34: Tom Sofa – Quarterback – 271st Overall
Mr. Irrelevant. He waited 270 picks to hear his name and he finally did. Sofa is an active player and the backup for the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. He is turning out to be one of the better quarterbacks from this draft class. He made some appearances in the regular season but his spell on the sidelines in the DSFL may continue depending on the future of Ramos.
Here is a word form the man himself:
“Being a Quarterback I knew my draft stock would be low. Hell, I’m Mr. Irrelevant in a draft of 271 players so I didn’t expect teams to come calling me or knocking on my door. With how little I’ve played this season due to various illnesses I thought I would be Mr. Irrelevant again but that is definitely not the case. While I haven’t had a lot of conversations with a lot of teams, I have definitely had quality conversations. I expect there to be 2 or 3 teams gunning for me in the draft and that’s all I can really ask for. The teams I expect to call my name on draft night is one of these: The Chicago Butchers, The Honolulu Hahahahwhatevertheyare and the Sarasota Sailfish. I think all 3 of those places are interested in me and I interested in them.”
There is no chance in hell that Sofa is drafted anywhere close to his previous draft position. There is even a potential for him to crack the top 50. He will be drafted as a QB for the future. The real question is when that future occurs. Is it in a season or two time in Chicago or a few more down the line. Time will tell where Mr. Irrelevant will be drafted but it will be one of the biggest stories of the draft.
That is a look through the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers DSFL Draft of S21 and a potential glimpse into their future in the NSFL S22 draft. Each one of them is excited for their future and only time will tell how things will pan out. The most intriguing players to watch for will be Hellzapoppin, Buckley, Sofa and Clemente.
The potential teams are not 100% accurate with the expansion draft still to occur which will have a major impact for all teams.
