Hi everyone, I am Jamar Lackson, RB for the Minnesota Grey Ducks, and after our disappointing season by the expectations that were set prior to the season, but in reality the DSFL was shocked by the massive S22 class caused by the r/NFL post and all expectations were thrown out the window when talking about the records at the end of the season. I have decided for my first media post to ask around the locker room to find out my teammates' opinions about our season, and their opinions about the upcoming draft, and their ideal places they would want to go. The Players that have been interviewed are both top prospects in the draft, along with some under-the-radar players that I believe deserve a higher spot in the draft.
First off we have the former back-up, now starting QB of the Grey Ducks, Sim Snowbow. While becoming more and more active throughout the season in locker room and in TPE gain, Snowbow exited his rookie DSFL season with 102 TPE according to the TPE tracker, while this doesn't seem like alot, he has made great lengths to remain active and be a great member of the Grey Ducks Locker Room. This explosion in activity has improved his game as well, posting 736 passing yards with a 49.6 completion percentage with 5 touchdowns to 7 interceptions, throwing more touchdowns and having a higher completion percentage than his co-star, Zach Vega. Let's get into the questions!
How do you feel about your first season in the DSFL? This was my first season in the DSFL, I've had a blast so far but I will say it's been a hell of a road, bumps, then curves, then straightens out later. Although it's had bumps, and curves, I've learned to get better and understand a lot more than I used to be able to. That credit goes to my friends here, the GMs, teammates, and my mentor!
What are you looking for in a NSFL team? What I look for in a team generally is that the players all get along, mesh together well, and overall have a good sense of humor. If players are getting into fights very often, it makes me not want to be a part of that team because of the dividing lines that are made by players. I love being with a team that knows how to work with one another, and can drive through adversity to keep going and make the journey more enjoyable along with making it easier overall since everyone is getting along!
Is there any teams that fit what you are looking for? As of right now, most teams have what I am looking for but I am not sure with choices or anything else more detailed.
Is there anything you would want to change about your first season? (Activity, more talkative in the locker room, etc) Yes! I would love to be able to say I can be VASTLY more active than I have been when I started in the league, I had an activity spike (I'd like to think) in the last couple months being here since I've understood more about the league and how it operates vs not knowing anything.
Thank you Sim, overall I believe that if any team is looking for a great quarterback, locker room presence, and person, they should look no further than this underrated draft prospect, don't be afraid to take a chance on this hidden stud!
Next up we have a superstar player on the defensive ball for the Grey Ducks, Buck Thornton! He was the #8 overall players selected in the S21 DSFL draft, and I believe that he has lived up to his draft pick. After posting a Defensive Back high 6 sacks on the year to pair with three forced fumbles along with a defensive touchdown, there is no reason why Thornton shouldn't be considered for the DPOTY award. While I haven't talked to him in the locker room directly, he is very active and would be a great asset to any team looking for help in their secondary. Anyway, let's get onto the questions!
How do you feel about your first season in the DSFL, and your potential DBOTY award? I had a lot of fun this season. We have a great locker room in Minnesota and it was fun getting to know all of my teammates. It definitely showed me the fun part of this whole thing. As far as my potential award nominations, while I would be honored, I still feel like I underperformed. We had a disappointing season up here. We expected to win the whole thing and missed out on the playoffs.
What are you looking for in a NSFL team? I’m looking for a team that is a contender or is building to be a contender in the near future. Also GM’s that are active in the locker room and willing to help.
Are there any teams that fit what you are looking for? I could see myself fitting in with pretty much every team. Being a part of an expansion team is an exciting prospect. I have had good conversations with GM’s from Austin, OCO, New Orleans, Colorado. I know Rampage from the Grey Ducks LR. Baltimore is attractive because of their pedigree and the closed locker room. But anywhere I go I’m just going to give it my all and contribute as best I can, on and off the field.
You had a great season statistically, is this going to be the new normal for your time in the DSFL? Well hopefully I don’t have a ton more time in the DSFL! Haha. Although I wouldn’t mind one more season to take care of some unfinished business here with the Grey Ducks. Obviously I’m going to keep working hard and improving so I imagine the stats would reflect that, but as long as we win, it doesn’t matter to me what my stats are.
Overall, Thornton has a winning mentality, which will be needed in any team in order for them to succeed, so he will be a great asset for any team, and with already being over 200 TPE he will be sure to be a great add for both stats and a great locker room presence for whatever team decides to draft him early.
Next up is our last player, WR for the Grey Ducks, William Alexander, who at the time of writing this, has 188 TPE on the season, the most out of all the receivers on the team. He finished the season with 502 receiving yards, good for 9th most in the league, and he also caught 1 touchdown, but this can be seen as a result of the second worst passing attack that the Grey Ducks had this season. Let's get into the questions!
How do you feel about your first season in the DSFL? As a Grey Duck myself I was disappointed with how our season went. As an offensive player I'm even more bummed that we couldn't score the points to win some close games. I dropped way too many passes, really need to work on that. My personal stats also weren't what I expected. I like to score touchdowns, only managed to do that once this whole season. But apart from the losing season I enjoyed myself. Great team mates and high quality football played in the league.
What are you looking for in a NSFL team? I'm looking for a team that wants me. I was in contact with some that seemed lukewarm and not all that interested in me. I know there are a lot of players to scout for this year's draft but why should I care about playing for your team if you don't care about me as a person? Don't get me wrong, most scouts were nice and paid attention and I will play for whichever team drafts me. Although as a lifelong OCO fan playing for them would be a dream come true.
Is there any teams that fit what you are looking for? I also like teams that have a clear path for me. It's okay if my chances of making the NSFL roster next season are slim but please be honest and upfront about it, that's all I'm asking for.
Is there anything you would want to change about your first season? (Activity, more talkative in the locker room, etc) No, it is what it is, no reason to dwell on the past.
Finally we have the first year GM, Dewalt27, he has had a tough task of living up to the success that the former Gm, woelkers/Peter Brand had left, and most of the surprising outcome that this season has had was because of lots of bads luck, and this huge draft class that essentially equalized most teams came into effect as well. Anyways, it's time for questions!
How would you describe your first season as a GM and the previous draft, how will it prepare you for this upcoming draft?
The first season was really a learning experience for me. I expected my transition into being a GM to be smoother, yet we got thrown into a very large Reddit recruitment class. I thought we did very well overall throughout the draft getting active players in all parts of the draft. This season we are looking forward to being more in depth with our recruitment. The smaller class size should allow us to focus on each prospect more thoroughly than just trying to contact each one.
Is there any positional needs that must be addressed immediately in the draft?
This is a difficult one as its really almost too early to tell without knowing how the NSFL draft goes and which players are getting called up. I’m anticipating we will have several rookies go early and get called up so I’m anticipating DBs and DL will be some of our greater needs. I’ll also be looking for Offensive line and maybe a WR.
Your first season of being the GM of the Grey Ducks did not live up to the three-peat expectation that many had. How do you plan to rebound next season?
We had very lofty expectations coming into the season. On the field it was disappointing that we could not deliver a 3-peat for the Grey Ducks, or make the playoffs for that matter. We had some games that we felt we should have won but it just didn’t go our way. Off the field we felt we did a great job with picking players who were active in the league and in our LR I think our team was a pretty tight knit group and we are happy that went so well. Looking forward to next season we are looking to bounce back. Expectations for us will always be to make the playoffs but we feel that we should be right back in the championship picture.
Question for Lackson: As a player on both the championship team (as a waiver) and on a team that missed the playoffs as a rookie how would you compare the teams? Was there much impact on the LR? Did your opinion of the team change at all?
Being on both teams, i'd say that the locker room did not really change and that is a great thing, the reason that I am active in the locker room is because of the maintained atmosphere that is welcoming, and that is essential to keep a locker room active like with the previous GM. My opinion of the team has grown more positive even with this losing season, because unlike with my other player, i am active in my rookie season, which has allowed me to learn about my teammates and hopefully my teammates know about me now, and being together will help us to push for an ultimus next season, and hopefully even get drafted together with some of my teammates next week.
Although being hit with bad luck, Dewalt has done a great job of keeping a locker room together, and it will lead to us contending for a championship next season, and maybe start another quest for a three-peat.
That will conclude my first media article and the first edition of Laxin’ with Lackson. Hopefully this helps to gain some publicity for my teammates and myself in order to get them into the best position for the draft.
