Week 12 in the NSFL has come. Here are the top stories. This week started out with a huge shocker before any of the games even started. HO member TeyonSchavari announced that he was stepping down from his head office position citing mental fatigue and personal issues as his main reasons for stepping down. The positive effects that Teyon has had on this league cannot be properly overstated. His influence can be seen in nearly every aspect of the NSFL most notably the rookie guide which virtually every player in the league has used at some point during their careers. The good news is that Teyon will not be retiring from the league entirely. He will still continue in his role as a rookie mentor saying “ I still want to help the new members of this league and am excited to return my focus to the first job I had here.” (As of the time of this writing no replacement has been named.)
Yellowknife Wraiths clinch the NSFC 1st seed. As the NSFL season winds down the playoff picture starts to look a lot clearer. The Wraiths 59-3 victory over the Baltimore Hawks puts them at 10-2 and officially marks them as this year’s regular season champions. The Wraiths have made it to the NSFL finals the previous two years but came up short both times. Can the Wraiths break their curse of always being the bridesmaid and never the bride? We’ll just have to wait and see but personally I have high expectations for the Wraiths this year.
Among the other NSFC teams the Colorado Yeti have also secured a playoff spot although their exact seeding is still up in the air. The Yeti are another team that has struggled in the postseason. The franchise is still looking for their first Ultimus trophy. The Sarasota Sailfish expansion team could be looking at a potential playoff appearance. In order to secure the wild card spot the Sailfish would have to defeat the 1-11 Chicago Butchers and the Philadelphia Liberty would have to lose to the Yellowknife Wraiths. While the first task might look easy on paper it is important to remember that nothing is ever guaranteed in simulation football. On the other hand while the Wraiths might seem invincible right now the guaranteed first round bye might lull them into taking it easy against the Liberty. The Baltimore Hawks and Chicago Butchers have been eliminated from playoff contention at this point.
Looking at the ASFC things are a lot less certain. The Orange County Otters have Clinched a playoff spot but they could potentially lose the first seed to the San Jose Sabercats. Meanwhile the San Jose Sabercats, Austin Copperheads, and New Orleans Second Line are locked in a three way battle for the final two playoff spots. The Saber Cats and Copperheads position is pretty straightforward win and there in. The Second Line needs the Saber Cats to beat the Copperheads then they must win their final game against the Hahalua who along with the Outlaws are eliminated from contention.
Meanwhile over in the DSFL’s SFC division the Tijuana Luchadores continue to tear through the league on a five game winning streak. The Luchadores have secured the first seed with a 9-3 record. The rest of the SFC are in a 3 way tie at 6-6 apiece. I highly suggest that everyone reading this pay close attention to these three teams over the final weeks. I have a feeling we will see some truly thrilling football from these players.
Finally we check in on the NFC North division. Few things are certain in this division. The Minnesota Grey Ducks currently lead the division but they could end up missing the postseason entirely if the Portland Pythons and London Royals manage to win out. Finally the Kansas City Coyotes have a slim chance at reaching the playoffs. It requires that both the Pythons and Royals lose their final two games while the Coyotes sweep both of their opponents. Seems unlikely but stranger things have happened.
That’s all the time we have for today thanks for tuning in goodnight everyone... I’m sorry I’ve just received breaking news. Commissioner Bex just dropped several bombshell announcements all at once. The first being TeyonSchavari replacement has been chosen, Exilizer. I shared a locker room with Exilizer and I can say that he is a natural leader and cares deeply about this league and its participants. Well done a better pick I could not envision. The Second announcement saw the man known as Skyline take on the position of head banker. Skyline is another fellow whom I have been lucky enough to share a locker room with while I cannot personally speak towards his skill for numbers. I can say that he is an exceptionally witty and charming individual.
Commissioner Bex saved her biggest bombshell for last when she announced the formation of the DSFL HO. The DSFL HO will be led by commissioner Tom Hanks who just last season led the New Orleans Second Line to a championship. His team will consist of league veterans BaconBrother, Duilio05, Hallmonitor_20 and nunccoepi. While the new HO’s inception has been met with overwhelming positive support it is important to note that the DSFL HO has been attempted before and failed to have the desired impact. However I have high hopes for this group and wish to congratulate all of its members along with Exilizer and Skyline on their new jobs. In his opening speech Commissioner Tom Hanks had these words to say “The first step to helping the DSFL improve is to get feedback on what you, the league, think needs fixing. We have our ideas and plans already, but we want to know what you guys are thinking. If you have a question or a concern, please reach out to one of us!”
