Cornerback prospect James Gath has a lot of confidence - and he's not afraid to show it. When I interviewed him recently about his upcoming DSFL season, the draft, and his career thus far he had this to say:
Q: What do you think will be different for you in the DSFL versus the rest of your career leading up to this point
Gath: It's all the same. Football is football. Some of the players get bigger, maybe badder, but at the end of the day you play on the same field. And it's a field I've been dominating since peewee ball. I look forward to continuing that.
Q: That's some pretty forward confidence, what makes you think you can continue to put up big numbers?
Gath: D. The letter D. It's the Developmental League. I'm not really nervous about that. While other guys may need more work and have a lot of development to do, I'm ready for prime time and I plan on proving it.
Q: Growing up who was your inspiration, who do you look up to when playing CB?
Gath: Dermot was a beast, there's no question. He's a champion and a pro bowl addict, truly the GOAT. But that's just the thing about being the GOAT. It's of all time so far. I look forward to testing that boundary and pushing the limits of what's been achieved.
Q: What gets you the most excited about getting ready for the DSFL and ISFL?
Gath: Pretty easy, the DSFL is child's play. People watch it and get excited with stuff like 'Is the next great quarterback here?' or 'Which wide receiver will put a team over the top?". Nonsense. Fortunately I am here to shut down both of those rumors. Quarterbacks will look silly because of me. Wide receivers will look slow because of me. People will get bored of the DSFL this year simply because I shut down all offense.
Q: Thanks James, and good luck this year in the draft!
Gath: Thank you.
James Gath has declared for the DSFL and will enter the DSFL draft on August 6th.
