Hey all,
Just want to share my pre draft thoughts before the draft presentation this Friday. It's nerve wracking sitting here waiting to see where I end up. Who is going to draft me, and when is my name going to get called? How many of my team mates will go ahead of me and how many will I be reunited with at the next level. How many other wide receivers will go before I get the call? How many seasons before I get called up to the big leagues for my debut? What am I going to be eating that night? How many drinks in will I be when they call my name? Will I even remember it the next day? How much money am I going to get?
These are all thoughts going through my head. They change around, it isn't any one thought that dominates more than which team will I end up on. This is the big question. It may seem like it does not matter. But, to me, it matters the most. I thrive on a good lively locker room to kick back and enjoy my days away. For me. the Tijuana Luchadores locker room is the perfect place. The blend of people that frequent it, are hands down, the most amazing group I am a part of. They help keep me sane(as much as that is actually possible) and give encouragement, create laughs, and of course the dirty jokes happen from time to time. The overall atmosphere is perfect. So obviously, I do not expect which ever locker room I go to to be the exact same. But I do want it to be active and a fun place. If it is a dead one, it will make it harder to fully invest myself. Related to that, I want a winning culture. We can not have an attitude where it is ok to lose. It is one thing to know you will have some losing seasons due to roster construction and what not. That does not mean losing is ok, as long as what we are doing is to win at some point.
Next up, I wonder where I will actually get drafted. I know I am not a first rounder at this point. I have not spent the time to talk myself up and sell who I am. I spend most of my time in the Luchadores locker room chatting with them. I do make a decent amount of media articles, and I like to think they are not just words to get money. I put some thought in there. I am not a max earner(at least not the first couple of weeks when I had no clue what I was doing). Since then, I have done everything I can to earn at a max potential. I do believe I am sixth or seventh highest TPE in my position. So I could easily be ranked seventh best at my position alone. Now throw in all the important positions out there and I am most likely falling some where in the fifth to seventh round. Which would be a step up from my tenth round draft position in the DSFL. Do I believe my talent is far above that? Absolutely. I should be drafted at the latest in the third round. But, that will be just another reason that motivates me to become better than as many of the people drafted ahead of me. Regardless of how good they are, I still think I will end up as good or better than them. And whatever team I do get drafted too, I will be active and do my best to help the team win.
I think I am going to eat some pork chops, potatoes and maybe a nice salad. For the pork chop, got to get a nice seasoning on the outside and get a pan nice and hot. Sear it up nice and good. Then toss that big ole sucker in a preheated oven and let it get to about 125 degrees and then add a little butter on it and wrap in foil to let it finish cooking. Potatoes, got to dice them up nicely, add some diced onions, jalapenos and some butter. Throw them all in the oven together. Of course you gots to season them suckers some thing strong. I like salt, pepper, dill and garlic. Let them cook for about 30 minutes or until the potatoes are easy to cut into. For the salad, I get lazy and use a premade caeser salad kit. Makes for a solid pre draft meal to fuel all the crazy partying I will have to do after finding out where I get to park my butt for the start of my ISFL career.
The drinks are usually pretty simple. My two favorite choices are either bourbon and soda or beer. But of course with so many options in both of those categories, it is not as easy as it sounds. My favorite bourbon is expensive, so I never have it around. So instead we will skip down to my go tos for different types of drinking. My favorite non expensive whiskey is either Bulleit or Woodford Reserve. Both are excellent on the rocks or mixed with a small amount of soda(club soda). For the cheaper stuff I usually have some Benchmark for mixing with a cola style soda. For the pricier bourbons, I really like Blantons and anything double oaked is usually great. Or I will go for some scotch, like Belvenie caribbean cask or the double oak. Both amazing sippers. For beer, I prefer stouts and the darker beers. Anything bourbon barrel aged is always welcome in my belly. My go to cheaper stout is the temptress, and any of their special versions are amazing as well. I think for this, I will start with a nice bourbon barrel stout and transition to some whiskey and soda and I might even finish it off with a nice cigar by the fire. We shall see what the night brings.
All that being said, can not wait to see the draft presentation and good luck to all the other draftees! I hope you all have a pleasant draft party and I can't wait to play against some of you guys next season(at either level, depending on call ups)
Later all.
