((Hello all! I thought it would be a cool idea to do something a little more in character. Setting up a fake sports network to do an in character interview. Everything with “Green text “ is written by the player that is being interviewed. Hope y’all enjoy.))
Good Morning! My name is Tom McHordle and I am representing the Hordle Football Network! We’re here to bring you some insight to the lives of a professional athlete. Trying to find out how they live and what they’re teams like. Maybe we’ll pick up some scandals. Maybe we’ll uncover some sick twisted cult like stuff? Or maybe this will just be an article that gets left at your dentist's office table in the waiting room. You know the same six magazines that no one ever really reads?
Today we’re going to be talking to Arthur Naught who is playing for the YellowKnife Wraiths. They recently finished with a seven and nine record.
Good morning Arthur. I would like to take the time now to thank you for giving us the time to interview you. We know you’ve recently been drafted and we’re proud as a network to get the chance to dive into a deeper look at your career.
First off, is there anything that you would like to say to our audience? Anything you want to get off your chest?
“Thanks Tom, I'm happy to be here and to chat with you and your viewers. I know you've got a lot of football fans watching ISFL and DSFL, so I'd like to give a special shoutout to any Kansas City fans watching - that season was unbelieve in the DSFL last year and damn it if I didn't grow to love Kansas City. Going to be tough finding that type of barbeque back up in Canada.
And, to be honest Tom, I'm just happy the draft is over. Some guys get excited I know, but it's stressful to me. Let's get past this nonsense about who's going where and just get to playing the greatest game in sports.”
The head office at KCC seemed to get really lucky with you being where you were. Now you’ve taken off as your own. We’ve heard you’ve been working with your coaches and your agent with statistical media. An interesting trait for any player. First Question then. You’ve just been drafted and of course have received your call up. No one is really surprised about that or the position where you were drafted. Do you have any nerves going into this season? Anything you might be worried about?
“I think if you don't have some nerves you're not doing something you care about. That said, I'm just excited to hit the field and the practice field and get some reps in with Colby, the other wideouts up there, our line, Skyline and Vermillion, Rechs, and see what we can do as a whole unit. It's a really exciting thing to end up in an offense like Yellowknife's, where there's a lot of existing chemistry, so I'm really aiming to come in, do my work and work as hard as I can to contribute to what this team is doing and where they're going.”
The Wraiths do have a lot of very good wideouts. Colby is an excellent QB and I’m sure he’s excited to have another weapon. But we’ll see how it goes! How have you been settling in with your team? Are there any stand out personalities that you’ve clicked with or maybe have clashed with? Have you been able to find a home in the area?
“Thanks Tom and yes, I’ve got a spot overlooking Frame Lake and man the beauty up north is something else. I’m a Canadian by birth, so it’s back to the home and native land, which is pretty special.
And the team’s been very welcoming, showing me around. Obviously the General Managers know what it takes to build a winning team given their work making a strong locker room environment. It’s a good group, fun guys, and I’m excited to be part of it.”
Well that’s good that everything is working out for you. I’ve been to the Yellowknife area a few times. It’s nice. Settling in is usually rough for rookies. A lot of them are often traveling across the country or even to a new one. But of course that is not always the case. So it’s nice that you’re able to travel back to your home country if nothing else. Do you have any plans on winning awards? Or are you planning on just focusing on your game and helping the Yellowknife’s succeed?
“It definitely is nice to get back up north, although I’ll certainly miss Kansas City and the great fans down there.
I’ll be straight with you Tom, I want Yellowknife to succeed. That’s why I play the game. Individual awards are great, but I’d trade any of them for the big cup - an Ultimus. So that’s where my efforts will be, and really my only career goal. It’s hard, a long shot, and I know most players end up retiring without a ring, but I’m out there to be the best at what I can do and help Yellowknife get closer to that.”
I am sure that the management with the Wraiths is happy to hear you say that. We’ll be looking for your highlights through the season. Other than people on your team, what do you feel about other teams? Is there any other player that you think is gonna be a star? Any team you might be afraid of facing?
“I think that this draft class has a lot of potential. Look at some of the others coming up this year, or those who will be coming up next year. Throw a stone at the first two rounds and you're bound to hit someone who's going to be something great in their career. I know Yellowknife will be seeing a lot of teams like Colorado, who've shown their mettle in the ISFL. Sarasota, with a great season last year. Chicago and Baltimore are never out. I'm not afraid of any of these, if anything I'm looking forward to the competitive battle on the field. I'll say that seeing Derek, my fellow Coyote, go to Berlin is something I circled for the first game he's up and we play Berlin. That's a proud new team over there, and between Derek and BamBam, not to mention their other pick-ups, I think there's potential for a rivalry to develop. I look forward to beating Derek on the outside whenever he gets the call up”
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the Wraiths vs Salamanders match up for sure. Hope to see you with a good season. Well Mr. Naught, I would once again like to thank you for your time. Is there anything you’d like to say before we sign off?
“Thanks again for having me on Tom. I'm looking forward to speaking to you after a Wraiths Ultimus victory.”
Well folks, that’s all we have for today. Tune in next time as we interview another ISFL/DSFL star. Have a good night!
