The Yetis
The Colorado Yeti are entering the S2 pre season (and season) with a lot to prove and a chip on their shoulder. After a heartbreaking defeat to the Arizona Outlaws in the championship game last season, the Yeti took the off season to regroup and focus on the draft. It was a massive draft class that was sure to drastically change the composition of every team so they knew getting this right was important. The good news for the Yeti was that they already had a very solid foundation of players to work on. They already have an elite starting quarterback in Noble and a solid core of running or passing options to build on in Hendrix, Law, Tweed. Their Defense isn’t anything to laugh about either with players like Carter, Saint, Hayden, Fulton and Tiernan. A solid draft could seriously make this team deadly.
The first few rounds of the draft were status quo for Colorado, drafting some high skill players in Blaster Blade to and Roman Thomas to bolster an already impressive defense. After the first 2 rounds, they didn’t pick again until pick 39 in the 5th round. They managed to draft Big Bot, yet another defensive player before finally picking up their first offensive piece of the draft in the 6th round in the form of Jon Ross. They also managed to grab 2 quality players in the late rounds with Steve Austin and Torque Lewith. All in all it was a very successful draft for the Yeti albeit very defensive.
Preseason week 1
The yeti kick off their preseason with a game against fellow NSFC team, the Yellowknife wraiths. Unfortunately for Colorado they were unable contain the Wraiths offense and they suffered a loss by the score of 35-13. Yellowknife outworked Colorado in almost every facet of the game and it was obvious when looking at the scoresheet. The Wraiths managed 24 first downs and 453 total yards to Colorado’s 13 and 294. Noble was serviceable for the yeti, completing 19 of his 28 attempts and Law did have a few great runs but overall the Offense was a little lacking.
Preseason Week 2
The second week of the pre season saw much of the same for the Denver team as they fell 18 - 12 to the Arizona Outlaws. The offense was yet again nowhere to be seen and Noble struggled heavily, missing almost half of his attempts. It wasn’t quite as bad of a showing overall for the team compare to week 1 but it was clear that the Yeti needed to put in a lot of work to be ready for the regular season.
Preseason Week 3
Week 3 was a little bit better for Colorado. They picked up their first win of the preseason, beating the expansion team Las Vegas Legion 27 to 10. Though Noble struggled again to get his passes off, when he did the receiving team came up big. Law and Hendrix combined for over 200 yards and the rest of the team added in comes up to well over 300.Colorado’s D finally had the good game it was looking for and expected to have.
Preseason Week 4
The final week of Preseason saw the Yeti go back to their losing ways of the previous weeks, dropping 13-9 against the Otters. There really isn’t much to say, it was more of the same. Noble was below 50% and tweed couldn’t get it done alone. It was the last week of the pre season and it was clear that the yeti needed to improve if they wanted to find regular season success
Week 1
With the 4 weeks of pre season out of the way, the NSFL was finally ready to kick off its 2nd ever season! In the first week of the season the Yeti were matched up with their NSFC finalist counterparts, the Yellowknife Wraith. Colorado was hoping they would be able to get away from their bad habits from preseason and pull of a win but Yellowknife had other plans. Although it was a respectable game, the Wraiths took the contest 27 to 17. It’s definitely not the start that Colorado was looking for but at least they weren’t terrible. Plus the Wraiths have an excellent team. On the bright side, Rookie Jon Ross scored his first ever touchdown in his very first game. He was joined only by Tweed in the TD column for the Yeti
Week 2
Week 2 saw the Yeti matchup against the only team they were able to beat in the pre season, the LAs vegas Legion. Much like the pre season as well, the Yeti pulled off a much needed W early in the season. They did so quite handedly as well, trumping the Legion 33 to 3. That’s right, the Yeti Defence was here to play allowing only one field goal all game. Hendrix had a monster game totalling 106 yards and 1 touchdown. Ross was able to add a second touchdown to his career totals in just his second game and rookie Roman Thomas stole the show with 2 interceptions and 1 Touchdown off of an interception. This was the Game the Yeti were looking for to turn things around. THe defence clicked and the offense was relentless. They would need much more of this if they wanted to keep winning.
Week 3
The thing about having so few teams in a league is that you’re bound to play everyone sooner rather than later. In this case the Yeti were going head to head with the Wraiths yet again for the 3rd time in just 7 weeks. This time however Colorado came out on top with another impressive defensive game, winning 17-3. That makes a grand total of 6 points allowed in the last 2 games. Pretty incredible if you ask me. Colorado’s D was elite against the wraiths and they are finally starting to show the league why they really are a force to be reckoned with.
Week 4
Week 4 brought one of the best games of the 2nd NSFL season so far. The Yeti and Outlaws were pitted against one another in a grueling defensive match up to end all defense match ups. While it may not have been an exciting game for the fans on TV, the players were sure involved and boy h boy was it a fiery one. Arizona looked like they were ready to walk away with the game, leading 12-10 with 2 minutes left in the game. After a week possession though, the yeti were left with a chance to turn the game around. Things looked grim as they didn’t manage much on 3 downs but they couldn’t have ever expected to see what they were about to see. 57 yards from the Outlaw end-zone, Bojo Kicksit let go a beautiful kick that sailed into the end-zone and between the posts. Just like that it was 13 -12 and the Yeti offense were able to shut it down for the remaining minute and a half. Colorado gathers its 3rd win in a row and sit atop the the NSFC division.
