The Season 2 draft saw 12 Wide Receivers get drafted to NSFL teams. WR was a position that was already pretty saturated heading into S2 so prospects know they will have their work cut out for them if they want to earn more playing time. The league’s depth at receiving was also very apparent with how GMs were drafting: only 2 WR went in the first 3 rounds.
This article is going to take a look at the Receivers featured in the season 2 draft class. All TPE totals are taken from update pages to try and get the most up to date information possible.
Wide Receivers by draft order
7th Overall - Fox North - Philadelphia Liberty - TPE: 237 @Silver Fox Joined June 26th
At the top of the receiving class in season 2 is Fox North and it’s easy to see why when you see his TPE totals. While he did have a head start on a lot of the other youngsters, that experience will only help him keep an edge moving forward. North has a fairly balanced skillset but his versatility is something the Philadelphia Liberty will welcome. He will be expected to play a very big role in his first official season, bigger than most other prospects in this draft. The Liberty didn’t acquire any meaningful receivers in the expansion draft so North is going to be their go to guy for their inaugural season.
16th Overall - Dustin Evans - Arizona Outlaws - TPE: 221 @AsylumParty - Joined June 25th
The next wide receiver wasn’t taken until the very end of the second round and the honour would go to Dustin Evans. He would be taken by the championship winning Arizona Outlaws. He was another easy pick as far as wide receivers went in this draft considering his TPE count. He is another relatively balanced receiver and should fit in really well with the Outlaws who already have Mayran Jackson. He already possesses decent speed and has been working on his agility quite a bit recently. If he keeps it up, he could easily become a force to be reckoned with in the NSFL.
32nd Overall - CA Chess - Arizona Outlaws - TPE: 178 @4D Chess - Joined July 9th
The Arizona Outlaws would be the first to double dip into the wide receiver pool when they selected C.A Chess at the very end of the 4th round. Chess is a reliable receiver who brings incredible hands to the table. His speed is pretty decent and he has been working on it quite a bit as of late. Chess and Evans will definitely provide the Outlaws with reliable hands for quite some time.
47th Overall - Jon Ross - Colorado Yeti - TPE: 139 JR95 - Joined July 17th
It took until about the halfway point of the draft for another WR to come off the board. The Colorado Yeti add to an already impressive receiving lineup including Hendirx and DJ Law. While this does mean Ross will have to play 3rd string for quite some time, the young rookie is willing to do so given that there will be opportunity for advancement moving forward. Ross brings a great deal of speed to the team and has been working on his agility to go with it. It may be a while until he sees primetime, but Ross hopes to be a deadly weapon in Colorado’s back pocket.
51st Overall - Damien Kroetch - Philadelphia Liberty - TPE: 133 @Damienj10 - Joined July 17th
Philly added their 3rd receiver with their second 7th rounder and this is one they won’t. He hasn’t been around quite as long so much like Ross his TPE is a little behind but he ahs been working really hard to catch up to his competitors. The Liberty are going to need all of their players to be developing as well as Kroetch has if they want their expansion team to really take off. His hands do leave a little to be desired but his elite speed more than makes up for it. Besides, he is still young and will have plenty of time to improve his weak areas.
52nd Overall - Matthew Vincent - Baltimore Hawks - TPE: 174 @sapp2013 - Joined June 24th
With the very next pick we see yet another Wide Receiver find a new Home. This time it is Matthew Vincent in Baltimore. This may surprise a lot of people. Not necessarily that they took Vincent, but that he was even available at the 52nd pick. Vincent has a slight head start on the previous 2 picks and a decent amount of TPE more. While some are surprised, the Hawks are elated to have this stud fall to them in the 7th round. Vincent has one of the best set of hands in this draft class but his speed and agility need quite a bit of work. His skillset is currently a bit of a double edged sword but he has time to work on his legs.
53rd Overall - Darren Smallwood - Yellowknife Wraiths - TPE: 164 @tlk742 - Joined July 7th
With yet another consecutive pick we have wide receiver Darren Smallwood who will be finding his way to the cold white north in Yellowknife. Another pick that fell a bit more than he probably should have, Smallwood is a very well built receiver who doesn’t particularly excell at any part of the game but he doesn’t have many weaknesses either. He has a well rounded progression and will make a great receiver for the Wraiths for the foreseeable future.
56th Overall - Johnny Rocket - Las Vegas Legion - TPE 122 @:.Elite.: Joined June 1st
Rounding out the end of the 7th round is Johnny Rocket. The young receiver brings impressive speed and agility to the Legion but his work ethic has been lacking quite a bit as of late. It has been a full month since his last update although he has logged on recently. The Legion still have a chance to save little Johnny’s career and I’m sure they hope they do for the sake of their team.
60th Overall - John Baker - Baltimore Hawks - TPE: 101 @Bakepiece Joined June 28th
Heading into the last 3rd of the draft we see John Baker go to the Hawks. While Baker has been a bit of a slow grower, he has been consistent at updating and should actually be a very solid pick for the Hawks at 60th overall. His low TPE may have scared the Legion away at 56 but he may have been worth the gamble if he continues to progress.
81st Overall - Hunter Mason - Philadelphia Liberty - TPE: 79 @hmason91 Joined July 14th
Near the end of drafts pickings start to get slim and teams start taking long shots. Mason was one of those longshots and the Liberty figured he was worth whatever risk was associated with the 81st pick. Unfortunately Hunter has been nowhere to be seen recently and his progression seems to have hit a halt.
82nd Overall - Ryan Lecavelier - Las Vegas Legion - TPE: 59 @Ephemeris Joined May 23rd
Lecavalier is one of the longest standing DFA members in this entry draft but unfortunately that won’t mean much for his TPE production. This Receiver has earned a grand total of 9 TPE over his starting 50 and has been invisible recently. This is kind of expected at this point of the draft but it must be disappointing nonetheless.
95th Overall - Santana Moss - Colorado Yeti - TPE: 50 @Tyfeld93 Joined July 7th
The last receiver of the draft went to the Yeti and was still on the board for good reason. Absolutely no work has been put in by this player since joining the league and the pick was really a throw away at this point.
