Hello all, today we are going to be looking at the New Orleans Second Line S28 draft results. We’ll have an in depth look at the players that were selected by the team from the Big Easy and then we’ll sit down with Vincent Jones Jr, linebacker for the Second Line and get his recap of his rookie season and an outlook on this coming seasons and his thoughts on the latest players selected in the draft.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at New Orleans first pick of the S28 ISFL draft.
1st Round
13th overall - Cade Williams OL - Tijuana Luchadores
With New Orleans first pick, they looked to bolster their front line in front of league MVP Ben Slothlisberger. Selecting Cade Williams with the 13th overall spot was a great snag for the Second Line. Williams will join Adam Mellot to be a force to be reckoned with when he gets the call up. Like Mellot before him, Williams was drafted to the Tijuana Luchadores in the DSFL where he had a solid season for the Luchadores, recording 26 pancakes and only allowing one sack on the season. The DSFL was Cade’s first real experience with professional football, having been home schooled. Cade is well on his way to being a great partner with Mellot and will look to help Slothlisberger maintain his MVP form for seasons to come.
2nd Round
20th overall – Remus Roman – RB – Portland Pythons
This Purdue alumni was snagged with New Orleans first of two picks in the second round. Remus Roman was selected 20th overall from the Portland Pythons. This crafty running back wowed the New Orleans Second Line scouting staff with his impressive play in the DSFL last season. Roman operated as part of a running back duo in Portland rushing the ball 170 times this past season, racking up 817 yards and 10 touchdowns in the process. His longest on the season was an impressive 89 yard run. With the legendary Forrest Gump hanging up his cleats for the last time after the Ultimus game, New Orleans was looking to add another running back asset to the fold. When Roman does get the call up, he’ll join Rotchburns and Forty-Two in the backfield, making a pretty scary backfield to go up against.
27th overall - IsHe ReallyInvisible - QB - Tijuana Luchadores
The New Orleans Second Line owned two picks in the second round, and with that second pick, 27th overall, they selected the next in line for the quarterback torch, IsHe ReallyInvisible. Ben Slothlisberger still has several seasons left in the tank, giving IsHe time to develop his game even more. The 2nd Tijuana Luchadore taken by New Orleans, ReallyInvisible was 199 for 439 this season for 1991 yards thrown. IsHe also threw 10 touchdowns for the Luchadores last season. IsHe is a duel threat quarterback, opting to run the ball 73 times this season for 332 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had the second longest run in all of the DSFL with a 91 yarder. ReallyInvisible went to a very little known school prior to being drafted in the DSFL called Too Fast For Class, at the time of writing this, I still have no idea where that school is or what they teach. Keep your eyes opening for IsHe ReallyInvisble in the near future, if you’re not looking, you just might miss him!
3rd Round
41st overall - Taipan Pete - RB - London Royals
The third round saw New Orleans bulking up their backfield even more. Drafting running back Taipan Pete with the 41st overall selection. Taipan is a member of the London Royals in the DSFL and prior to that, he suited up for another smaller, relatively unknown university, called Brown Town University. For the London Royals, Taipan ran the ball 114 times for 547 yards and two touchdowns. Pete’s longest run on the season was 49 yards. Stocking up on great runningbacks is never a bad idea and this looks to be the mindset that New Orleans is going with.
4th Round
55th overall - Gyles Marrett DE - Tijuana Luchadores
With their 5th and final pick of the draft, the New Orleans Second Line once again dipped into the Tijuana Luchadore well. They selected their first defensive player of the draft, selecting Gyles Marrett with the 55th overall selection in the S28 ISFL draft. While Gyles may not have had the most impressive stat line, he did record 23 tackles and 9 tackles for a loss. He also registered 2 sacks on the season. With a little more experience and training, the Texas A&M graduate will most definitely fit in nicely with the other defenders for the New Orleans Second Line.
Now as promised, here is Vincent Jones Jr’s thoughts on the draft and the New Orleans Second Line past season and upcoming season.
Q: Thanks for joining us today Vincent, I know you are busy getting ready for the S29 of the ISFL.
A: I sure am, looking to try and help us get back to the Ultimus for a third time in a row.
Q: That would be pretty impressive if the Second Line could pull that off.
A: I sure hope we do, we have the players to be able to do it, we’ve just got to play some solid football from start to finish and hopefully if we do make it, we’ll be the ones leaving with the Ultimus trophy this time!
Q: No doubt! Can you give us your thoughts on last season and how it ended?
A: Being my rookie season, I didn’t know what to expect. We had a rough start but we came on real strong to finish the season. And when playoffs came around, we were all ready to show everyone what we could really do. Making it to the Ultimus was surreal, something that I’ll never forget. We didn’t play the best game though, and the Sarasota Sailfish took advantage of that. They played a great game of football and had been doing so all season long. Just want to say congratulations to them, they deserved it.
Q: What did you learn from your rookie season? What tips or advice do you want to give to the next round of rookies coming up to the ISFL?
A: Biggest thing I learned was it’s not over till it’s over. We had some games that seemed to be out of reach, but a few quick plays can turn things right around! And this just isn’t for games, a season can take a big swing as well. Just keep playing and never count yourself out until the final whistle blows. Oh, and the players in the ISFL are tough! It’s quite a change from the DSFL but it motivates you to get better, to be able to run with the big kids!
Q: Definitely some good knowledge to pass along! Let’s talk about this draft, how do you feel that the Second Line made out with their selections?
A: I think they friggin killed it! We got some amazing players this season, we are setting ourselves up nicely for the future. With players like Williams, Roman, ReallyInvisible, Pete and Marrett, we, in my humble opinion, won the draft. These guys are all dynamite! I haven’t had too much time with this crew yet, but I really can’t wait to. I’ve got a common bond with a couple of them already coming from Tijuana myself!
Q: You sure do, it seems like Tijuana and New Orleans go hand and hand!
A: Big time! Tijuana has a habit of sending great young players into the ISFL, so I’m very happy when I see them coming to New Orleans to join us!
Q: You were the recipient of the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, tell us about that.
A: Not much to say really. It was an absolute honour to win it, but I have to give credit to my entire team for that. I couldn’t have done anything without my teammates. Personal accolades and accomplishments are great, but I am here to do one thing and that is to help New Orleans win the Ultimus. We came up a bit short last season, I’m going to try and make sure that doesn’t happen next time.
Q: I think that is about all the time we have, thanks again for sitting down with us Vincent!
A: Not a problem, it’s my pleasure! One last thing, I just wanted to say welcome to the ISFL to each person who was just drafted. It’s a nerve wracking time for sure but now that it’s over, make sure you keep pushing yourselves, cause I know that I am still pushing myself each and everyday and I will be waiting for you when you call up to the big leagues!
Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone in the upcoming season!!
