It was a strange season for the Bondi Beach Buccaneers in season 28. Managing to make the conference championship with a losing record, they ended up failing to get to the big game. But shortly afterwards, the hard-hitting emotions of losing in the playoffs faded away for Brandon Prince, as he learned he would be called up into the ISFL.
Brandon Prince had a solid season statistically, racking up 799 yards on 173 attempts, which adds up to 4.6 yards per carry. It’s also worth noting that Prince shared a backfield with Akil Ozymandias, who picked up 1363 receiving yards despite being a running back. The Buccaneers struggled during the season however, slumping to a 6-8 record to end the year. They managed to sneak into the playoffs because of a very weak southern division, with division leader Tijuana ending 8-6, the second place Bucs finishing 6-8, third place birddogs ending 5-9 and tank commander Seawolves finishing 1-13. Their first playoff game would also serve as their last, falling to Tijuana in a close battle where Prince ran in 2 touchdowns. After a demoralizing defeat, Prince was soon brightened up by some career-changing news.
The New York Silverbacks had another good season, finishing 10-6 and 2nd in their division. The Silverbacks ended up losing in the first round to the Copperheads, and felt they’d need more fresh faces to make the team more competitive. Prince got called up after the end of the season, and he can’t be more excited to get started. “I love the locker room atmosphere in New York...” he stated, “They really want to make me the best player I can be”. Prince will be mentored by Captain Rogers, New York’s veteran running back who gained 1329 rushing yards in S28. The hope for the Silverbacks is Prince can smoothly take the reigns once Rogers hits regression, but it’s gonna take a lot of work on Prince’s end to make that happen.
Prince’s journey through the DSFL and now the ISFL has been a tumultuous one, but things finally seem to be going in the right direction. It will be interesting to see how he handles the call up. New York saw enough upside in him to draft him in the first place, so it’s obvious they believe in him, but will he remain active enough to become a starter in the ISFL? Only time will tell.
