There has been some recent controversy over my last media piece where I updated the stats for the Human Players who play on the Offensive Line. I will explain how I make this media each season so you guys get a better indication of the work that has gone into it as well as why I went about with this project in the first place.
This idea started when I came into the league as an Offensive Lineman and learnt about the position as well as its history throughout the league. One thing I learnt about was the utilisation of bots throughout the majority of League History. As a result the index season record and career records charts were full of bot players that for the most part didn’t change throughout the season. For example, the Yellowknife Wraith have had a bot named Samson Pooky [S.Pooky in the sim] who has played in every season since season 4 and as a result has accumulated more stats then any human offensive lineman would be able to through their at most 13 season career.
These career records being inflated by bots who have played double the length of a regular career impact the career records also has an impact on the hall of fame. A player may retire and finish as a stat career record holder which would increase their changes of making it. An offensive lineman on the other hand, wouldn’t make the top of career records due to the bots. One example of this is the recent retirement of Givussafarre Rubbe, one of the greatest offensive lineman of all time. He retired with 745 pancakes but to make the top 10 all time required over 1200. He was no near making it but everyone above him were bots.
So the first step of making these lists sounded simple in theory but provided to very tedious and ambitious, I had to get a list of every single player that was human. This was a task because It required me to go through all of the indexes, drafts, forums and the tpe tracker to work it out. This was a time when bots weren’t indicated in the index so you weren’t able to instantly determine if a player was a bot or a human unless you’re Philadelphia who named one of their players PHILADELPHIA BOTONE which made that a lot easier, shout out Philly! So I crawled through all of these indexes, drafts, forum pages and the TPE tracker to determine a list of all Offensive Lineman that were humans.
Next, I had to compile all the seasons together bringing about a list of the greatest seasons for pancakes and the worst seasons for sacks allowed. As well as compiling the seasons, I had to compile career stats which resulted in the career tallies found in the media articles. At the point I also compile the career stats for all human offensive lineman that are currently playing so players that didn’t make the lists know where they stand at the moment and how far away, they are from cracking the list.
So that’s how the article was cultivated. Searching for the human OL, going through the indexes to compile stats and then putting lists together to formulate the article. This was done in a time where Wolfiebot wasn’t a thing and the work had to be done manually by trawling the index.
When it comes to updating this article which I have done 6 times now, I go through the index and collate the updated active lineman statistics first and then use those numbers to update the charts. These steps have been made more complex with the sim transfer which resulted in significantly boosted stats for Offensively Lineman with a far greater amount of pancakes being achieved. To counter this, I split the statistics into 2 era’s, The old Sim and the New Sim. I also introduced a combined sims table for complete career statistics. Throughout this period, I have removed the Old Sim tables from the article as they would be straight duplicated from one article to the next as well as removing certain tables that wouldn’t change like the Combined Sim Season Pancakes Tally which only has new sim seasons in it now which would make it the same as the deleted table.
To end this article, I just want to say that I do plan to end this project series when the bots are removed from Wolfiebot and only humans remain which would make my media pointless. This is something I am working on and collaborating with Infinite about and is in the works.
A lot of work has gone into this project over the last 7 seasons and I hope ya’ll reading it get a better understanding of it and refrain from petty, unneeded comments that do not add anything to the community.
