Hey everybody. Trying out a quick game of the week format here. I'm hoping to make a write-up that is a bit more engaging using existing clips from real life that can come as close to plays that happen in the ISFL as possible. More specifically, trying to find plays that have stats that are similar to the stats that actually occur, done by teams whose jersey are close to the teams depicted. This is a bit more time consuming that just a text write-up, but I think it could be fun. I hope you enjoy!
As qWest mentioned in the ISFL Discord, there are a ton of important games this week. For this game of the week I’ll be looking at the upcoming matchup between the Baltimore Hawks and the New York Silverbacks. This cross-conference matchup is a must-win for the Silverbacks as they hope to finalize their spot in the playoffs and try for another Ultimus trophy.
The Hawks enter the matchup with the 5th best passing offense in the league led by quarterback Gimmy Jaroppolo Jr., who has had a pretty solid season. He’s at about a 3:1 touchdown to interception ratio, though his 91.2 is ranked ninth in the league.
The Silverbacks’ 7th ranked pass defense will need to keep an eye on the Jaroppolo Jr. to wide receiver Preston Parker connection, which has been red hot as of recent. Parker is coming off a 5 reception game against the Philadelphia Liberty that netted him 61 yards and two touchdowns. Below was the first score of the game, a 12 yard touchdown pass from Jaroppolo Jr.
Parker currently has 11 touchdowns, tied for 3rd in the ISFL. He’ll look to continue his touchdown streak this evening.
But I think the true star of the show to watch out for tonight will be Tugg Speedman, wide receiver and current ISFL receiving yard leader. He has shown absolute dominance this year, with his 1692 receiving yards beating out the next best receiver by 123 yards. And while he is often known for his downfield speed and ability to break out for a big play, Speedman has also often showed the power and grit he brings to his game. In the clip below you can see the extra effort to cross the end zone Speedman made during the Silverbacks’ week 11 meeting with the New Orleans Second Line. The willpower to complete the 6 yard reception would help Tugg to rack up one of his 12 touchdowns on the year and would put the Silverbacks ahead 28-21, eventually winning the game outright 25-24.
These two offenses should put on quite a show for us tonight, and I look forward to seeing who emerges victorious!
