The ISFL season nearing its conclusion, with it being in the last week of regular season sims. And that means the offseason -the time for drafts, FAs and many other player/user movements- is fast approaching now. I've been through many offseasons in various roles (war room member, DSFL GM, DSFL HO, rookie mentor, etc), but this offseason will be one with more significant than almost all the others, as it would see my recreate getting in the ISFL draft. So I'll finally get to enjoy the draft process in a prospect's perspective after almost 2 irl years of being in DSFL and ISFL war rooms and being the one to scout the users instead of being scouted. I've have immensely enjoyed all the scouting conversations (DSFL and some ISFL ones recently), but I have to admit the basic questions tend to get kind of repetitive after the first few coversations, as much as I enjoy being scouted and the draft process in general. So I thought, 'why don't I just write the basic questions into a media, so GMs can spare me most of the basic questions, and instead ask more personal and creative questions?' And well, here we are!
First off, I'll be near the top of the TPE earning scale. I stayed a max earner with my first player during most of his career, and he peaked at over 1400TPE. And currently my recreate is nearing the DSFL cap, being a max earner during the time of his existence. I don't see that trend changing anytime soon, and I expect my player will be near the top scale of TPE earning, even though I might miss out a task or two along the way. Money is also not that big of an issue as I have league jobs, and can write media for money if my bank account suffers a lot in the coming seasons for some reason. I first made my money writing media, after all.
Player wise, I'm not looking for anything particular. I didn't build this player with the intention of breaking records or making the hall of fame. I was lucky enough to have my first player land in a very fortunate circumstance, and have a very long productive career. I know that kind of luck doesn't present itself to every player, and that I'll most likely need to make demands to teams in order to make a HOF run again, considering the recent dynamics of the league. And there's also the fact that chasing stats for a long time can be very frustrating at times, especially when games doesn't go your way. That's why I decided to not to chase stats, records or the hall of fame with this player. With this one I want to help out my team win, while focusing on other joys that this league offers outside of sim success. I am willing to switch to any positions bar Offensive line and kicker, as those positions are just not my cup of tea. (nothing against the guys that play in there, they're very much needed and deserve a lot of respect in this league. I just don't have it in me to play those positions) I suspect that it's not very likely for me to be asked to switch to those positions after the new position change mechanics, to be entirely honest.
Regarding callup timing, I'm alright with whatever timing that benefits the team, as long as they doesn't stick me in the DSFL until my eligibility runs out or something. and that's not something I can see as a very likely outcome considering the recent callup trend and my earning levels. And I'll be down with being down until the end of my eligibility if the team got a good reason for it. It's not something that would make me test FA or anything, probably it would only make me a little grumpy.
User wise, on the other hand, I'm looking for a few things as this part is the main focus for me, at least for the career of Simon the Frog. First and foremost I'm looking for a good locker room culture. Well, the term "good locker room culture" is used quite loosely here, as I'll be content as long as the locker room is reasonably active and free of toxicity. I'll also be quite happy if there's people from other time zones or late night US guys, as I live outside of US, and have weird hours in US standards. So It would be a great bonus to have someone to talk with in said weird hours.
Also, I'm interested in war rooms. I'm not demanding that I be put in a war room after being drafted in any way, but I will be more than happy if a team asks me to join their war room. As I mentioned before I have been in ISFL and/or DSFL war rooms basically for the entirely of my sim league career, and I think I emerged as a competent scout from that experience. So while my sim knowledge is basically nonexistent in this sim, I can be of some help to a team in scouting and drafting new prospects, something I view as the most important thing in keeping a team going well for a long term.
Several scouts that have messaged me so far has asked if I intend to return to my old team of Colorado. And that's a valid question, considering that my first player played out his career as a Yeti franchise star (a fact that I'm quite proud of, not gonna lie) after being drafted to the team back in S22 draft. As much as I cherish Lim's career as a yeti and like a lot of people in that locker room, It is not my intention to return to Colorado. Sure, I'll gladly go there if they actually draft me again, but I will do the same with the same gladness to any other team. I saw quite a few cases of people asking for a specific teams in both DSFL and ISFL, and as much as I understand what they want and let them go to their intended team following the DBAD rule, a part of me have experienced frustrations seeing those kind of players. And that's why I am not going to ask to go to Colorado, or any other team. Besides, I enjoy the draft process too much to do that, anyways.
As I did with Lim, I intend to stick with the team that drafted me for the whole career of this player. The only instances that I would consider testing FA will be under dire circumstances, such as the team being dysfunctional (user wise with LR drama/ inactivity to the level that the team becomes the laughing stock of the league), or my request not being met (I have only one that I'll mention below, and honestly it's not even a hard one to meet). Barring those circumstances I'll be a franchise player for the team that drafts me, for however long Simon's career might be.
Even though I don't have any requests regarding stats, positions or teams, I do have one request for potential teams that seek to draft me. It's something quite small- that I want to be drafted to a team that scouted me. I don't expect a long conversation or a lot questions- I wrote this article partially in order to lessen GM/scout's work by answering FAQs after all- I just want someone to scout me before draft in any way. It is my belief that teams should aim to scout every active prospect regardless of their potential draft position, as (again in my opinion) that's the basic courtesy you can extend a prospect, and one never knows what would happen in a draft. It is something that I tried to live up to during my career as a scout for both leagues. And so I would like the team to also extend that basic courtesy to me before drafting my player.
So that's about the extent of what I can think regarding frequently asked questions in scouting, and things that I needed to convey. If there's anything ISFL GMs/scouts would further like to know, my DMs are always open, and I'll answer them as soon as I can see. (which can be in some hours because I leave in a different time zone lmao)
I look forward to draft day, and finding out which team I'll be going to!
