Thank you for all the questions! This is now READY TO GRADE.
Hello everyone!
Welcome to my introductory presser prior to the 41st DSFL season's draft. I'm here today to answer some questions to get to know prospective clubs & my peers a little better. Happy to answer any & all questions about my goals in the league, as well as the type of player I intend to become.
I'll be active in responding to any inquiries here, as I can be a little elusive to reach via Discord currently as I'm in the process of moving halfway across the world!
@Thor
Q. What kind of contributor do you see yourself being on your DSFL and eventually, ISFL teams?
A. To start out I just want to contribute value in any way I can. I'm happy being a rotational player or a starter depending on what my eventual team needs. Ultimately though, I want to evolve into the kind of player that can heavily influence an offensive scheme. I think I play in the best position in the game to add another dimension to an offence, whether it's as a reliable safety valve or a deep threat.
Q. What's the biggest thing you can improve in your game right now?
A. Being this new to the league, I don't think there's any areas of the game I can't improve in. For now, my focus is on sharpening my physicality so I can outpace, and out muscle defences at the DSFL level.
Q. There's a lot of TEs in this draft, how do you seperate yourself from the rest?
A. I can't comment on the quality of athlete in this seasons draft, so I'll just say work ethic & football IQ. Preparation is key to victory, and ultimately chasing the W over chasing personal stats is one of my biggest strengths.
@Swanty
Q. What was it like to move from Scotland to the US?
A. Well for Brand the biggest shift was that he can't casually call people incredibly offensive "curse words" as terms of endearment. So that was tough.
Q. Which team's brandings do you like the look of?
A. In the DSFL? None particularly call out to me. I'd have to swallow my northern pride to play for a team out of London though. The Seawolves is a strong name, and I'm partial to cold weather, so a home in Minnesota with the Grey Ducks doesn't sound too bad to me either. Jokes aside, I just want to go to the team that wants me.
@Jaywe88 @domffl
Q. I can already see that you have graphics down pat, any experience in design?
A. I've worked in ways that required me to be decent with image editing software before so I'm not too unused to it. I apologise to Jalen Hurts whose Rookie Card I mutilated to make my own though.
@ReverendOReily
Q. Does your player have a go-to meal they eat before big games?
A. A big old bowl of porridge of course. Oats make you big and strong, porridge is an elite intangible.
Q. Are there any football players (could be from the NFL, ISFL, or any other league you know of) that your player looks up to/hopes to emulate?
A. Obviously in my position it's hard to not admire players like Kelce or Kittle. They've evolved what a TE can mean for a team and seen entire offences rotate around them. My personal favourite is Mark Andrews though, who I view as one of the most underappreciated players in the NFL.
Q. Do you have a favorite sports related memory? Could be a memory your player has, or your own memories!
A. I'm lucky enough to have seen a good share of sports live, and personally live in Manchester (at least for two more weeks) where I go to Manchester United a fair bit! I've seen Ronaldo knock in more than a few winners! Nowadays, I'm a (new) Raptors season ticket holder, so my first couple games seeing Scottie & the lads at Scotiabank were pretty amazing.
Q. Would you rather fight one defensive-end-sized sentient football, or ten football sized defensive ends?
A. Both my player & I would pick the football sized Defensive Ends. two thirds of them would already be injured anyway.
@lordcoolcats
Q. You wake up.
There's a 15 lb (6.8kg) rooster standing on the edge of your bed, staring at you with cold, bloodshot eyes.
You make eye contact. It senses your fear. It takes one step forward. Then another. Now your toes are within pecking distance of its razor-sharp beak. One wrong move and it can grab your ankle with it's dinosaur-era talons.
It screams. Not the cockadoodle doo of a normal farm rooster. This is a blood-curdling roar. A howl unleashed from the bowels of hell. This demon bird intends to rip you to shreds and devour your soul.
What do you do?
A. Finally a real question - I'd scream back without moving a muscle. Lock eyes. a 15lb rooster doesn't have anywhere near the lung capacity of me, a 6ft 240 pound man. I will scream at it with a force beyond belief until it is legitimately feared, awed, or confused into submission. Peck my feet, I don't care, I will create the first case of Chicken Tinnitus the world has ever seen.
After that we'd probably be mates I reckon.
@TheNC206
Q. What should all teams know about you?
A. Honestly mostly just how into the sport I am! A chance to play in a constantly evolving system such as this is a huge attraction to me. I can't wait for both Brand's journey as a Tight End and my own as a long term player in the league to form its own narrative.
Q. Apples or Oranges
A. First and foremost, Pink Lady Apples, any other type of apple and I'd rather have an orange!
Q. Football or Soccer (Yes I went there)
A. Both? As an American Football loving Brit I get pretty used to swapping out the "correct" one depending on who I'm talking to haha. I'm a Manchester United fan & regularly in the crowd there, but also a diehard Seahawks fan, so it can be pretty confusing at times for people.
Q. Have you ever played rugby?
A. Yes! I played for years as a Flanker, and only stopped after injuring my wrist in the same spot twice. I made it into part of Brand's journey as a little reflection of my real life sporting experiences. Rugby is a fantastic game, and I genuinely believe as American Football exposure continues to grow & grow across the pond, we'll see more and more converts & talent from many European countries choosing to convert, as well as from AFL over in Australia (shoutout Michael Dickson)
Q. Are you ready to rumble?
A. Always, be it Royally, or in the Jungle.
Q. If 1+1 is 2 why doesn't 2+2 = 4?
A. Are you ok
Q. Did I fail math class?
A. I think that's something we can discuss at your end of year parent / teacher meeting.
Q. Finally, who from your draft class have you enjoyed the most?
A. Ask me again half way through the season and I'm sure I'll have some choice answers! For now honestly mostly everyone active in the Rookie Discord, even seeing rookies helping other rookies figure out this pretty (at first) daunting system has been great!
@TheRake
Q. Have you thought about wearing a kilt as part of your GameDay uniform?
A. Unfortunately not. The realities of wearing a kilt pretty much results in unsportsmanlike conduct, albeit accidental, on the vast majority of plays... turns out tacklers get a rough view of it
@wizard_literal
Q. Mr. Brand if you had to describe yourself in one word, what would that word be, and as a follow up question what would one Synonym for that word be?
The biggest challenge in this question was thinking of a word that has a handy synonym I can use, so I'll go ahead and say that I'd go for "consistent", and by extension persistent. That's the kind of player I want to evolve into.
