Hello there and my name is Ajax aka Lukas Van Ness and today on The VanCast (a written podcast in a sense) we will be discussing Week 1 of the ISFL broken down into the top statistics and conclusion.
Chicago vs Colorado
In the Week 1 matchup between the Chicago Butchers and the Colorado Yetis it was a closer game than I had expected. The 30-28 point game came as a shocker to me as in my mind I may have over hyped the Butcher's, as their QB Adrian St. Christmas threw for only 107 yards, 0 TDs and 2 picks in this disappointing season opener appearance. Their RB, LMZ carried the team on his back on the way to victory, racking up 107 yards, a 4.9 avg., and 3 TDS having a monumental performance against the Yetis. Lastly for the Butchers DT, Joseph Reed got 2 sacks and a FF with the recovery. The Yetis QB, Live Laughlove, on the other hand had a great game completing 75% of his passes and throwing for 326 yards and 2 TDs with no picks. Receiving wise Yeti WR, Eeeeee Phenssta caught 9 passes on 12 targets for 113 yards and a TD. Lastly for the Yetis FS Cross-Eriksen batted 3 passes down and caught 2 picks proving to be Adrian's worst nightmare. Overall the Butchers were lucky to escape this game with a win and only really won because of the ridiculous amount penalties the Yetis drew, so if they can fix that they can definitely have at least a .500 record.
Arizona vs Austin
In the the Week 1 game between the Austin Copperheads and the Arizona Outlaws they faced off in the Battle of the Ex-Mexico which was another close game I was interested by. The QB game was pretty even in this matchup as no picks were thrown and they both had high 60s completion percentage. The Austin QB, Queen Elizabeth II threw for more yards and less TDs and the Arizona QB, Wendell Saillor threw for less yards but more TDs. I didn’t notice any notable RB and WR performances other than Ozamataz Buckshank only getting 9 carries for a 5 avg. Arizona K, STW, banged one in from 47 and hit a chipshot from 27 both in the first quarter. Defensively Arziona CB, Mark Goodhead, forced 2 fumbles and recovered 1 of them which played a huge part in getting the win. Austin SS, Tobias Worthington III, sacked the QB twice and forced a fumble. Overall in my opinion Arizona played down a bit and were held back some by have a couple more penalties.
Berlin vs Honolulu
In the Week 1 game between the Berlin Fire Salamanders and the Honolulu Hahalua it wasn’t a contest at all as the Salamanders showed there elite defense and great passing game. Berlin QB, Roque Santa-Cruz had a great day throwing for 348 yards, 4 TDs, and 0 picks. Honolulu QB, Nova Montagne, had a very rough time throwing for 266 yards, 3 TDs, and 3 picks which in the end, really killed them. Berlin WR Zayne Dangle racked up 147 yards and a TD through 7 catches and his teamate, Octavio Pérez, caught 8 passes for 76 yards and 2 TDS. Honolulu TE, Waluigi Gronkowski, caught 5 passes for 111 yards and 2 TDs looking like George Kittle out there. Berlin K, Known Acquaintance, banged several FGs in but he had a long of 56 which is rather impressive to me. Berlin LB, Jordan Hartline, got a sack a pick and a pass deflection in the solid performance against Honolulu. Overall I think Berlin will probably be at the top of their division considering this is the performance they had with several penalties holding them back.
New Orleans vs San Jose
In the Week 1 game between the San Jose SaberCats and the New Orelans Second Line the QB game wasn’t nearly as atrocious as other games this week. NOLA QB, Elessar Jones threw for 317 yards and 3 TDs with 68% comp. and no picks. San Jose QB, Owen Farrell, threw for 219 yards and 1 TDs with 76 comp. and no picks. NOLA WR, Ttollem Mada, caught 7 passes for 94 yards and 2 TDs in the great performance (for him) against San Jose. San Jose K, Booter McGavin hit a solid 41 yarder but it wasn’t enough to get them the win. San Jose DT, Fat Jack, got a solid 3 tackles, a TFL, and a sack. Finally NOLA LB, Solace Avenger, got 10 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 TFLs and a PD. Overall the SaberCats didn’t have a solution to their pass defense problem this game and I have again underestimated another solid team in NOLA.
Sarasota vs Yellowknife
In the Week 1 game between the Sarasota Sailfish and the Yellowknife Wraiths this was another horrible QB performance. Sarasota QB, Carter Knight, threw for 346 yards, a TD and a INT with only 53% comp. Yellowknife QB, Absolute Unit, threw for 310 years, 2 TDs, and 3 picks with 59% comp. Yellowknife WR, Bernd D Brot, caught 4 passes for 45 yards and 2 TDs getting the only air TDs for the Wraiths. Yellowknife K, Double Doink, hit 5 FGs one of wich from 44 yards out. Sarasota FS, Spike Daniels, got 7 tackles, batted down 3 passes, caught 2 picks and took one in for 6 in his phenomenal performance against the Wraiths. Yellowknife FS, Sam Sung, got a nice 2 sacks and 3 tackles which is uncommon for a FS. Overall it was a defensive game and if the Wraiths want to contend more they need to stop throwing up picks.
New York vs Orange County
In the Week 1 game between the New York Silverbacks and the Orange County Otters it was a one sided affair as the Silverbacks racked up 62 points while only allowing 21 points themselves. In this section im not going to even talk about the QBs becaus the RBs took over the game for the Silverbacks. This elite New York duo made up of RB, Michaelangelo McTurtle and RB, Michael Touchback racked up 225 yards collectively through 32 att. and 5 TDs. This breakout performance caught everyones eye because the Otters had no answer for the Michael Brothers. Defensively New York CB, Dax Dangerfield, got 4 tackles, batted down 6 passes and caught a pick in the monumental performance against the Otters. Overall New Yorks luck was really on there side and were my underdogs going into this matchup and smacked me back into reality and made me realize this team could be alot trouble.
Baltimore vs Cape Town
Finally last but not least in the Week 1 game between the Baltimore Hawks and the Cape Town Crash it was a great great game to watch as the QB game was good-great and it was a close game. Baltimore QB, Preston Beatz, threw for 429 yards, 3 TDs and no picks with 69% comp. having himself a day against Cape Town. Cape Town QB, Creg Jerrith IV, did okay throwing 252 yards, 2 TDs and no picks with 65% comp. The Hawks really didn’t run the ball at all but on the other hand Cape Town RB, Jarvis Harbinger-Marjin did pretty good rushing for 94 yards through 22 att. and 2 TDs. Baltimore WR, Shane Turnbull, had a good game catching 9 passes for 107 yards and 2 TDs. However his teammate WR, Rocky Moreaux, caught 8 passes for 144 yards and a TD. Both kickers from Baltimore (Mike Makmur) and Cape Town (Patrick Cunningham) booted one in for 48 yards. Defensively Baltimore LB, Bruce Buckley Jr., got a TFL, a sack, and a PD in the solid performance against Cape Town.
That's all for today on the VanCast im your host Lukas Van Ness and hope you have a good one, put god first, peace.
