Welcome to the first iteration of the Weekly DSFL Powa™ Rankings.
Sponsored by Bud Light.
In this article I will be covering the DSFL teams with more eloquence than my last article (my sincerest apologies to lemonoppy). Ranking these teams 1-8 based on their current state. I will attempt to do this each IRL week, following the Thursday games. In order to do that, I’ll be looking at week by week performance and roster composition. Naturally, some teams look good on paper but fail to perform to that standard, but there should be some benefit of the doubt given to these teams early in the season. There’s still some rust on the wheels from the offseason. Some teams look worse on paper but overperform, pulling off upsets, and racking up wins. In a 14 game season, each game is very important, and losing/winning games you shouldn’t will impact your season greatly. There are no easy games at this level of competition. Maybe Portland. I will be looking at each roster and then ranking them with week 1 in mind. Stick around till the end to see the much anticipated GM’s POLL™. I somehow got almost every GM to rank the DSFL teams 1-8 themselves, and the results might shock you.
Slight disclaimer - I probably have no idea how to rank teams so don’t get mad at me plz, get mad at ur GM. I’m using TPE numbers as of 2/2. I’m not going to check through every single roster page to update their TPE count. I know you probably have more TPE right now than this article mentions, but it will be updated each week. Also I wrote this section before I looked at the coaches rankings, so this is influenced by my own thinking. Also please correct me ASAP if any of the following information in these rankings is wrong.
8. Portland Pythons
Record - (0-1)
Total Effective TPE - 8th
Average Effective TPE - T-7th
Players - 12
Players above 50 TPE - 7
Players above 150 TPE - 3
Capped Players (250 TPE) - 1
Sorry Bamford, but someone had to fill this spot. The Pythons rank dead last in TPE and effective TPE. With a measly 1322. For the purposes of this article I will really only be looking at effective TPE since it excludes TPE past 250, which is useless for the DSFL since the TPE cap. As of the most recent update, the Pythons only have 1 capped player, and only 5 players above 100 TPE. Their best player is their QB however, which raises their ceiling and floor. He can definitely keep them in the game, and not make mistakes, but a QB can only elevate a team so much. Portland had an abysmal week 1, getting outgained by 160 yards, and losing by 14 points, the biggest loss of week 1. And it was a home game. And the team that beat them was not a world beater either. The Royals have the 2nd lowest effective TPE. It was not a pretty game at all. The Pythons offense looked lost, and their defense wasn’t helping much either. Can you blame them? They only have 2 defensive players over 50 TPE. And only 3 in total. Brad Woof and Van Goff have the potential to take over any game, and I expect this team to throw a LOT since they will be down a lot. Running doesn’t seem as viable with a 69 speed RB with 50 TPE. Hopefully this team can make this season competitive, but week 1 isn’t a good sign. Expect them to be active on waivers and make a good in season pickup. Any players at this point would help. The one bright spot? Their special teams. Nickelback did a great job on the day, with an average of 45 yards per punt. Tar XF also nailed a 46 yard FG. The Pythons have some solid young players to build around, but not enough.
7. Bondi Beach Buccaneers
Record - (0-1)
Total Effective TPE - 6th
Average Effective TPE - 1st
Players - 12
Players above 50 TPE - 11
Players above 150 TPE - 6
Capped Players (250 TPE) - 3
Bondi Beach had a rough loss, with 2 potential game winning drives faltering in the last 3 minutes of the game. Both teams were pretty evenly matched, and the game was very close, but in the end the Tijuana defense made the plays at the end of the game, whereas Bondi’s defense couldn’t get off the field for those 2 long drives Tijuana put on at the end of the game, milking most of the clock. Bondi had a chance but 3 straight incompletions will do that to you. This WR core is young and hungry, with 3 solid contributors who will all be active and earn more TPE. It’s just week 1, but this team just couldn’t put it together. Their offense will be scary by midseason, but right now they are a young group still figuring things out. Bugs had a rough first game, but I trust him to be back and better within the next month. He was fantastic with his legs but just couldn’t get it done through the air. The WRs and him seemed to be off. Their run game looks lethal right now, and Dre Freduci and Bugs are a combo nobody wants to face. It’ll be about whether or not Bugs can make those big throws down the stretch. The defense is a liability, let’s not ignore that. Bugs is going to have to be dynamic through the air to make up for that. They need a linebacker to plug the holes and prevent RBs from having 150 yard days. You cannot win games when you are giving up 6 yards a pop. Unless you’re Tijuana. Bondi has very high potential, and they can win any game with this offense. This team will be scary if they figure it out.
6. London Royals
Record - (1-0)
Total Effective TPE - 7th
Average Effective TPE - T-7th
Players - 17
Players above 50 TPE - 11
Players above 150 TPE - 4
Capped Players (250 TPE) - 2
Yes the Royals won, but they also beat the Pythons. This team does not have the talent to compete with those top tier teams. A win is a win though and they won in convincing fashion. You still have to be able to beat up bad teams and I won’t knock the Royals for that. But they still have holes on their team, especially in the secondary. Only one player in the secondary is over 100 TPE. Their offense looks really good however. I think they could easily move up to the top 4 next week with another win, or drop to 7 with a loss. They are really hard to rank, but if they keep playing above their potential I will have no choice but to respect what they’re doing. They have a capped QB and WR. Their offense was on full display week 1. McDiddl tore up the Pythons secondary. They’ve got a much tougher opponent in Norfolk next week, going on the road. We’ll see how they fare against teams not named Portland. If they can get their players to update, it will be a scary defense, but as of right now, this team is not going to do much when there are offenses out there like Dallas and Minnesota.
5. Norfolk Seawolves
Record - (0-1)
Total Effective TPE - 2nd
Average Effective TPE - 6th
Players - 20
Players above 50 TPE - 16
Players above 150 TPE - 7
Capped Players (250 TPE) - 4
Norfolk has a great team, but suffered an unfortunate loss. The reason I have them and KCC higher than London here despite losing is because they just have better rosters. London has to earn that right, and Norfolk had an amazing draft while other teams had their good talent poached by the ISFL. Norfolk’s roster speaks for itself, with 2nd in total effective TPE, and top earners at every level. Maybe this is my homerism or bias, but I suspect Norfolk might be able to sneak into the playoffs and make a run. Their #1 overall pick in the S46 draft is max earning and at a key position, cornerback. They have 2 capped RBs, and 2 solid WRs, not capped yet. One is IA though, but JJ What (me) is max earning. Their secondary is very strong, with a capped CB and Safety and then Roquefort reaching 200 TPE. Also another CB and S at 90 and 80 TPE, still earning as well. This team’s weakness is in the front 7 for sure. They don’t have a strong presence in the box and will get gashed by the run. Dyson is dynamic with his feet and will be able to make plays, but he needs to be able to hold onto the ball better. He lost 3 fumbles in week 1. It’s very hard to win games when you have 3 giveaways. Norfolk almost brought it back as well but a failed 4th down pass sent these boys home with a loss. Norfolk needs a strong response. Their passing game is young, and the Dyson to JJ connection will grow over time, similar to Bondi Beach. This team will only get better.
4. Kansas City Coyotes
Record - (0-1)
Total Effective TPE - 3rd
Average Effective TPE - 2nd
Players - 17
Players above 50 TPE - 16
Players above 150 TPE - 7
Capped Players (250 TPE) - 5
Kansas City suffered an unfortunate loss, much like Norfolk. Both of these teams are talented. Kansas City, I believe, is a better team than Norfolk because of their Linebacker core and their QB. McRobinson had a poor showing week 1 but we know what he is capable of. KCC desperately needs another WR, only having 1 on the roster. They have 2 very capable TEs, however. Purdy Mediocre is also a very serviceable RB. Their linebacker core is fierce, and it will be hard to move the ball on this team. KCC put up 450 yards of offense and still lost because their kicker missed 4 FGs. A terrible outing from special teams cost KCC this game, but hey, special teams are a part of the game. If KCC doesn’t stop shooting themselves in the foot, this could be their peak in the Powa™Rankings. Sponsored by Bud Light. I trust them to right the ship, and I doubt their kicker misses 4 kicks again, but you could never know. I don’t know if I trust them to close out games in the playoffs, but they have the potential to blowout, not just beat, but BLOWOUT anybody in this league. They can move the ball at will on 3rd down and can get their first downs in any way. Their offensive scheme is good, but we’ll see if they just went against a sleeping Minnesota defense or if they can really sustain this production. They just need to finish drives. That INT at the end was killer, especially considering how they drove from their own 1 yard line. If McRobinson wakes up, this team will give Minnesota a run for their money. We’ll see if they can improve or not.
3. Tijuana Luchadores
Record - (1-0)
Total Effective TPE - 5th
Average Effective TPE - T-3rd
Players - 14
Players above 50 TPE - 13
Players above 150 TPE - 6
Capped Players (250 TPE) - 4
This team will go as far as Puddles O’Duck will take them. He has 2 capped WRs, a capped RB and a 100 TPE tight end. He has weapons, and support in the backfield. Now it’s all about whether he can make the throws and capitalize on this. In week 1 he did just enough to bring his team over the hump. They squandered a two score lead, and ended up down 3. Most teams would end up letting the momentum snowball them, but O’Duck answered, with a huge TD throw on 3rd and 11 to get back a lead they would never relinquish. This team is certainly top heavy, and loaded at its skill positions. They have some players on defense as well, but not as much as their offense, and not nearly as high powered. The defense played really well down the stretch against Bondi. This team will be a pain for anyone to face. Though they may not have as much TPE or as many high TPE players as other teams, O’Duck will be able to light it up with these talented skill players. And it looks hard to pass against this team. They absolutely shut down Bugs. You might be able to run on them though! Tijuana plays Kansas next week, in a heavyweight fight. If they win again, Tijuana must be taken as a serious contender. They could go all the way. Again. For the 1000th time. But, they could also miss out on the playoffs if Bondi Beach or Norfolk get hot at the right time. Again, the pressure is on for O’Duck, who takes over at QB in a stacked situation in the most winningest franchise in the history of the DSFL.
2. Dallas Birddogs
Record - (1-0)
Total Effective TPE - 4th
Average Effective TPE - T-3rd
Players - 16
Players above 50 TPE - 12
Players above 150 TPE - 6
Capped Players (250 TPE) - 5
Dallas is a scrappy team, with playmakers at every position. Lane Frost is a deep threat, who must be taken seriously as a future first team All Pro at WR. McChapperson played well, throwing bombs all day. Dallas forced 4 fumbles!! Their defense is opportunistic, but they can’t expect to go against a butterfinger QB every week. Their defensive line is formidable, with 3 DTs at 120+ TPE, and one capped. They have 2 high TPE secondary players, and a 100+ TPE LB. This team is my personal favorite to come out of the South. I think they can beat any team in there once they put the pieces together. They have 2 capped WRs and a capped QB. They have a solid 1-2 punch at RB, and Reginald is quickly going to take over that RB1 role. This team is good. Very good. They just need to figure things out offensively. I know they put up 37 points, but if you watch the game, you can see that they were not firing on all cylinders. Dallas is good enough to figure it out though. I trust them to be ready come playoff time. It’s just a matter of when, not if, they’ll turn it on.
1. Minnesota Grey Ducks
Record - (1-0)

Average Effective TPE - 5th

Players above 50 TPE - 20
Players above 150 TPE - 8
Capped Players (250 TPE) - 6
Minnesota’s roster is stupidly stacked. This team has 16 players above 100 TPE! That’s more players above 100 TPE than 3 other teams have rostered players! Absolutely insane. They have a capped safety duo of Wane and Poop-Eater Jr. Dixon is also a 200+ TPE CB. They have 2 young 100+ TPE LBs that are earning and hungry. They have an absolute stud at DE, with 162 TPE, and the top earner of his class, Dunkler Sowerwine. On the offensive side, they have 3 RBs, one capped and the other 2 at 100+ TPE. They have a capped QB and WR. And 2 more WRs above 100 TPE. They have 3 OL, 2 above 100 TPE, and one of those is capped. They are STACKED, from top to bottom. They have no holes, no weaknesses, at least on paper. But they nearly lost to KCC. And probably should have, if they had a kicker. I’ll attribute that to first game jitters. This team is the favorite to win the Ultimini. Easily. I don’t see any other team except for maybe Dallas to be able to stop them. But hey, any given Tuesday/Thursday. They have the talent. TurnDaBallOva is my early favorite to win MVP. I think he will light up the DSFL this year, and he had a very solid week 1. This team is going to be ROUGH for anybody to face. Good luck DSFL, this is a juggernaut. KCC did put a game plan out there that was effective against Minnesota. But KCC left many, many points on the field, with 4 missed FGs. Minnesota needs to tighten up. They have the talent, now they just need to execute.
Now… what you’ve all been waiting for…
GM’s POLL™
I polled every GM to rank the teams in the DSFL based on strength. I got a lot of variation, but the results are very interesting. The number in parenthesis is the average place they were given, and they were ranked from that. See below. 14/16 GMs responded.
So, what does this tell us? Everyone thinks Minnesota is at first and that Portland is last. Spots 2 and 3 are contested between each other, and 4 and 5, and then 6 and 7. There are essentially 5 tiers. My power rankings are nearly identical to the GMs poll, except I have Norfolk and London swapped, which may be some bias from my end, but I really do think Norfolk has a stronger team than London right now.
I hope you guys enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed making this! Take this as you will, and don’t take it too seriously if you’re at the bottom or at the top. Things can and will change quickly and this order will not be set in stone throughout the season. Any given Tuesday/Thursday baby! Enjoy your week and I will see you all next week after week 4 concludes to give you an updated Powa™ Rankings. Sponsored by Bud Light.

- Minnesota Grey Ducks, 1-0 (2.14)
- Dallas Birddogs, 1-0 (3)
- Tijuana Luchadores, 1-0 (3.14)
- Kansas City Coyotes, 0-1 (4.14)
- London Royals, 1-0 (4.36)
- Norfolk Seawolves, 0-1 (5.64)
- Bondi Beach Buccaneers, 0-1 (5.93)
- Portland Pythons, 0-1 (7.5)
