We've now reached the end of Passarelli's third season in the ISFL. As I've done the previous two seasons, I want to continue the "Path to Hall of Fame" series that I started at the end of their first season in the Pros. If you'd like to see where it all started, and get some numerical context, feel free to click on the links above to see the recaps of the first two seasons of Passarelli's career.
The goal of this series is to highlight and review the season over season values produced by my current player, Thomas Passarelli, and compare them to other recent Hall of Fame WRs. Let's take a look at how they faired this season!
This season Passarelli clearly made a leap in both TPE and productivity, finishing just short of the century mark in catches, and doubled their previous career(!) total of TDs. Their complete stat line for the season reads as follows: 99 catches, 1205 yards, 12.20 (again weird rounding numbers, actual value is 12.17, repeating), 7 TD, and a season long reception high of 92 yards (which is also tied for the twelfth longest in league history).
Passarelli also saw continued work in the return game, accumulating the following stats: 24 KR, 475 KR yards, 19.79 KR avg., 0 TD, and a long of 37.
Everyone's favorite part, how do these stats compare to those of our HoF comps, Tugg Speedman and Jackson Kingston (see below):
Looking at third year statistics, we see that Passarelli, by and large, falls squarely in the middle of our two comps. Posting second in yardage, TDs, and rec. avg. When writing this up, and even last season when I was looking ahead, I knew the season that Kingston had had in their third year was incredible, but seeing it in comparison is pretty wild. I would argue that this is a top 20 season all time for a WR in the league (please feel free to tell me others that may have had better seasons; I actually think Tugg has a 1700+ yard season with 13 TDs in a few seasons). All that to say, in terms of receiving, Passarelli is still mapping fairly well to our HoF comps, when looking at individual seasons. The return game is a different beast, where Kingston has a clear cut lead here.
Let's take a look at overall career totals and see how these 3 match up (see below):
Much like last season, Passarelli retains their fairly substantial lead in receptions, but in a surprising turn, Passarelli also takes the lead in receiving yards between our 3 players through 3 seasons! That being said though, Kingston and Speedman, very clearly are more efficient with the ball and have a much better reception average than Passarelli. Meanwhile, Kingston has clearly become a TD magnet by this time in their career, with a hefty lead, doubling both Speedman and Passarelli.
In terms of return statistics, we see Passarelli and Kingston in a near tie for almost every statistic. However, I do want to point out that this is 2 seasons worth of stats for Passarelli, whereas this is only 1 season (including the 1 KR for -2 yards last season) for Kingston.
All in all, Passarelli has played well through these first 3 seasons, and seems to be keeping pace with these two prolific WRs. The big question I posted last season was if Passarelli could take the leap in year 3 that both of our comps did. Well, what's our verdict? In my opinion, Passarelli definitely took a leap, and seems to have done so at the same pace that Speedman did, but I think moving forward, Passarelli will always be trailing Kingston. The jump that Kingston took from year 2 to 3, after switching from COL to NYS, is simply incredible and may have given them enough of a lead to stay ahead for good.
If we had to pose a question for next season, I think I'd ask if Passarelli's stats this season were simply a matter of sheer volume (NOLA passed A TON this season), or was there actually a jump in talent in the third season? Hopefully NOLA is better next season and we get a clearer answer on what the next few seasons look like for Passarelli.
My personal goal for this past season was 1k yards and a doubling of the previous seasons TDs, so 2 to 4. We hit those and kept going, which marks this season as a massive success for me. Honestly, if we had ended the season after week 5, I would've been thrilled! Passarelli started out literally on fire, and cooled off to a spot that I expected more going into the season. I would love to see that stabilize going forward as well. Looking ahead, I'm just not sure where Passarelli will end up. Their reception numbers look really good through these 3 seasons, but I think this will serve as the inflection point when we look back. Moving forward, both Kingston and Speedman begin to put up massive numbers season over season and I just don't know if Passarelli has that in them at the moment. Obviously would like to see it happen, but Kingstons 3rd season really puts it into perspective on what is needed to reach the Hall.
Awards:
Passarelli: No official awards
Speedman: S29 Ultimus Champion
Kingston: S25 Pro Bowl, Breakout Player of the Year S25
Fun fact, at this point in their careers, Speedman had just joined the Silverbacks, and was behind Kingston in the Depth Chart. Whereas as Kingston had just been drafted to the Silverbacks in the Expansion Draft.
This is honestly my favorite part of these write-ups! Let's see where Passarelli ranks on the all time lists:
Receptions: currently ranked 295th (previous season: 351st). Needs to average 82.5 receptions per season to break into the top 10 all time (assuming 8 more, 16 game seasons played full time)
Yards: currently ranked 277nd (previous season: 342nd). Needs to average 1,218.63 yards per season to break into the top 10 all time.
Avg: currently ranked 226th (previous season: 267th)
TDs: currently ranked 316th (previous season: 401st). Needs to average 10.25 TDs per season to break into top 10 all time.
Formula for determining the above values:
(Total number of (receptions, yards, TD’s needed to meet Top 10) (-) number from current season)
