Graders: I'm using the 2x media boost on this post :)))
Welcome, everyone, to the newest edition of CROney3's long running article series, Ranking the Rankers! My name is Civvy, and I'll be your host for the next couple minutes as you read this article. CRO is a bit busy working on his own stuff, so I took over this project temporarily.
For the past 3 seasons, Ranking the Rankers has compiled a full list of every single fantasy player's scores, then compiled and compared those scores to @CROney3, @jdc4654, and @TubaDeus's preseason rankings of those players! This season, however, was a tad different. We still have 3 rankers, but @Pat will be filling in for JDC!
But first, I think it's a great time to really think about why these rankers rank in the first place. They post their rankings in order to help you, the fantasy players, in choosing their all-star team. Their credibility leads you to listen to these figures and you let them influence your decisions.
Today, I ask one thing of you. Are these people worth listening to? All I do is provide the stats, it's up to you to decide.
Deep talk aside, let's talk real quick about why this post has been posted at such a... delayed time. Well, it's 100 percent not because I'm lazy and put this project aside for a long time. It took a while to compile everything, so give me some leniency. Please. Please.
But I think my late-ness is a blessing in disguise. Normally this would be posted before everyone chooses their fantasy teams, in order for people to make an informed choice on what ranker to trust, if any at all. However, I'm a strong believer in a wise saying that my grandfather's father's father told my grandfather's father, who told my grandfather, who told my father, who told me, and it's stayed with me my entire life.
Now, let's get into the rankings of the rankers!
Grading here is going to be pretty subjective, but, the 3-color grading system is really just to show you, the reader, what's going on in a simpler way! Unless you're red-green colorblind. In that case, I'm so, so sorry. Basically if I shaded a ranker's rank green, it means they were spot on or nearly spot on when it comes to their rankings! Good job. Yellow means it was close enough and wouldn't kill a team's score if they were selected. And red? Red is bad. Red means that they pretty much whiffed on that guess. Best ranker gets 3 points, second best gets 2, worst gets 1 point.
I didn't use a formula or anything to get these colors, but I also didn't just compare the numbers and see how big of a difference they made. I can't fully encapsulate my full thought process with three colors, but I take into account the score itself, how large of a difference it was between higher/lower ranked players, if the rank was too high vs. too low, and the "complexity" of the guess itself. If a rank seemed confident in their respective posts and they get the rank off, I'm probably going to give them a red vs a yellow. I really wish I could explain my thought process for each color chosen for each ranker's rank, but it just wasn't meant to be. I think the 3-color ranking system does get the point across well enough.
And, as a quick refresher, here are the total points from the previous Ranking the Rankers:
#1: Tuba - 22 total points
#2: CROney - 17 total points
Pat doesn't have any pre-established points, but I will go ahead and add up Tuba and CRO's total points at the end to keep the long-running competition going.
Quarterbacks:
Starting off, things are not looking too good. The top 3 quarterbacks were missed by every single ranker here, and by a lot. Tuba and Pat's number 1 pick finished 10th, and CROney's finished 11th. Pat got 2 places spot on, so I suppose I'll give him first place. Then, Tuba had Donovan Winters right, so he'll be second. Sorry CROney.
Pat: 3 points
Tuba: 2 points
CRO: 1 point
Running Backs:
A much better showing for our rankers, the top 3 backs were ranked highly by all rankers! Pat here has a lot of green ranks, however, he chose Danny Nedelko as the second best back. In reality, he finished 10th. Though he has the most amount of "right on" guesses, that major miss does hurt him here. CRO also had Danny as his number 3. Tuba was the only ranker to have the best RBs close to the top of his rankings. Because of that, he's going to be first in this category! We'll give it to Tuba, and then CROney. Sorry CROney.
Pat: 6 points
Tuba: 4 points
CRO: 2 points
Wide Receivers:
Well, this didn't go so well either. As you can see, lots of missed guesses. Everyone missed all the big hitters here. I think CROney gets first here, as he ranked both N. Treasure and H. Mardukas close to their actual ranks, who were very strong players. Pat got National Treasure close too, so he gets second. Sorry Tuba.
CRO: 5 points
Pat: 8 points
Tuba: 5 points
Tight Ends:
All I know is that Tuba didn't win this one. Both Pat and CRO had the top 3 players as their top 3, albeit in switched orders. Pat was spot on with his rank 1 rank of Mister Hogmally, so he gets the top spot. CRO with a very, very close second, and Tuba with last. Sorry Tuba.
Pat: 11 points
CRO: 7 points
Tuba: 6 points
Offensive Lineman:
It seems like each ranker was on the same page when making their rankings. Fridge, Jones, Musgrave-Smythe were projected to be in the top 3 in all of their rankings. However, It seems something happened to Fridge and Musgrave, as they massively underperformed versus the rankers' projections. Pat and CRO both had Walrus at number 1, so I'd say it's between them for the top spot. Tuba had the 31st best player at 4th overall, and frankly, I can't forgive that from a purely statistical standpoint. CRO takes the top spot here, by virtue of not ranking Tunkah Danstrol in their top 8. Good job, CRO. Pat gets second and Tuba gets last. Sorry Tuba.
CRO: 10 points
Pat: 13 points
Tuba: 7 points
So, that's the offensive rankings! Not gonna lie, that was pretty rough. QB and WR rankings were all over the place, which shows just how volatile of a position they are. Ranking is a hard job!! They did nail the running back top 3, however, which is very commendable with the sheer amount of RBs in the league! And, nobody really cares about TE fantasy stats, but they did... meh. Though, with such a small group I'm sure it's harder to make decisions. Now, onto the defense!!!
Defensive Lineman:
Top rankings are all over the place here! Keep in mind that Pat only has 6 lineman ranked, versus Tuba's 10 and CRO's 9, which will affect the rankings here. CRO had GOAT TANNK as the number 1 DL of the season; the only one out of the three to even have him ranked! A ballsy move, for sure, that would've been great. Except that he finished 11th. CRO, I know you're my GM, and I appreciate everything that you've done for me, but... that was a bad choice. Between Tuba and Pat, I'd give it to Tuba. His top 3 choices were much closer than Pat's. So, Tuba then Pat then CRO. Sorry CROney.
Tuba: 10 points
Pat: 15 points
CRO: 11 points
Linebackers:
Big misses for all! Once again, CRO has some rough guesses, and doesn't hit the mark on anything, save for ranking de Ville the highest at 4th overall. However, both Tuba and Pat were spot on with Sunigh at number 2! de Ville and Sunigh had a point difference of only 6, so I value Tuba and Pat's correct guess more. Between those two, Tuba had the worse 1 overall pick in Sherwin Blue, so Pat takes first. Tuba's second, CRO last. Sorry CROney.
Pat: 18 points
Tuba: 12 points
CRO: 12 points
The Best Positions (Defensive Backs):
It seems that Pat wasn't able to join his other rankers in ranking the DBs. Sadly, we're going to have to give him last to maintain the integrity of this totally fair and non-subjective competition. This could go either way between Tuba and CRO, honestly. I value Tuba getting Fresh close and CRO getting Owidhuse close pretty much evenly, with such a small point difference between the two players. I respect Tuba for being the only one to rank LeBayers and getting his 4th overall rank spot on, so he takes first. Sorry CROney.
Tuba: 15 points
CRO: 14 points
Pat: 18 points :(
Kickers:
It's pretty clear that everyone didn't do too hot here. Baker and Wang ended up being nearly last amongst their competition. Only Tuba and CRO were able to see Bukowski's potential, so I think it's between those two. Kicker fantasy points are always super close, so I think CRO getting Jack Sloth at 7th overall spot on is pretty commendable.
And........ those are the rankings!!! Without further ado, it's my honor to present to you the winner of this edition of Ranking the Rankers.......
PAT WITH 19 POINTS!!!!
Pat, even with skipping an entire position's rankings, cops out a win by 1 point!! His offensive rankings were phenomenal, at least compared to the others'. Though he slacked a bit on defensive rankings, he was still sharp nonetheless.
In second place, we have...
TUBA AND CRONEY WITH 18 POINTS!!!!!!
A tie, everyone's favorite ending to any competition! It's no secret that this isn't the most scientific study out there, but I think that the 3-color grading system backs up this close game. If you count 'em up, all 3 rankers have approx. the same amount of green ranks thru the entire thing!
Outro:
Wow, what an adventure this small post has been. Not going to lie, this took a long, long time. CROney approached me with this project on the 17th. I'm posting this on the 26th. It took a while lol. It took way, way longer to get those nice looking charts up than one would think. I got this data from two amazing spreadsheets compiled by my TIJ GM CROney3, but I still had to combine both spreadsheets into one easily readable one to make the data easy to see! But, I'm not complaining at all! I had a ton of fun making this post, and I'm glad I can continue an ISFL Fantasy tradition, AND make fun of ISFL vets while I'm at it!! It's a win-win!
Well, this has gone on for a really long time, so I suppose I'll stop rambling now. I'm happy that I finished my first big project for the league. Hopefully I can continue to make some larger posts like this soon!
If you've read all the way through, thank you so, so much!!! I hope you have a great day/evening/night, and remember that you matter <3

"Hindsight's a f*cking bitch."
I think everyone can learn from this deep quote. Hindsight sucks. You think about what you could have done all the time, I'm sure. All the things you wish you did. All the regrets from when you were younger stew in your mind. Maybe it's that job you should've taken. Maybe you wished you expressed your thoughts in a better way. Maybe it's that friend you should've reached out to after all those years. Or maybe it was that girl you should've asked out in freshman year of high school named Stephanie. Still haven't gotten over her. Or maybe, it's about who you chose in a fantasy football league inside of a fake football league on the internet, where players are depicted as circles on a screen.
Regrets are all about missed opportunities.
I think there's something to be learned from realizing that you messed up after the fact. It's a great way to teach yourself that the past can't be changed. It's an unfortunate fact of life, I know, but it's a fact nonetheless.
Which is why this post is so late! Definitely. This isn't just an excuse, I swear. Now, all current fantasy players can potentially regret listening to CROney, Tuba, or Pat's rankings this season even earlier than if I posted this on time!!! Free therapeutic exercises for all!!!!! I think it's much better to learn these life lessons and great quotes from something small, like a fantast football league for the ISFL, versus something larger, no?
